P & O Ferries Hull - Zeebrugge

Advantages: Great, Friendly, Relaxing, Casino, Bars, Cabins, Restaurants, Cinema, & more.
Disadvantages: None unless you are sea-sick or rough seas !

...I would like to tell you about one of the many sea trips i have experienced going from Hull to Zeebrugge and return trip with P & O Ferries. I cannot rate them high enough. For anybody looking for a short break, maybe to shop in the city of Brugges or to travel on into France to look for some cheap beers and wines, this is the trip for you. That is providing you are not of the travel sickness kind. We had done the Dover to Calais route 3 times and found that for the price we was paying (well we just turned up at Dover at midnight and asked for a 24 hour shopper trip, paid on credit card as they would not accept cash the cost was anything from £25 to £100). We got fed up of that method as it meant we only got 90 minutes break from travelling. I live a good 6 hours drive from Dover. I decided one day to have a look at P&O web site...

P&O Ferries (Tazzywazzy's voyage épique partie 1)

Advantages: Cheap and Cheerful - does the job!
Disadvantages: Not much to do on the boat, not good if you get motion sick!

...the Monday off....Phone boyfie....come up with Plan B. Plan B worked like this, leave Wednesday afternoon and return Sunday evening, but it was Tuesday, and summer hols are starting, I started to worry that this may be easier said than done.... We didn't do much shopping around, as we were really pushed for time, we checked the tunnel prices and ferry prices. Using tint-er-net we found that we could get la voiture (that's some French speak for ya) on a return ferry crossing on P&O ferries from Dover to Calais for £120 (inc. £10 fuel surcharge) or go on the tunnel for £140, we decided as this was so last minute we would go for the cheaper option and boyfie went ahead and booked it. In the interests of writing a tres bon review, I decided to check out ease of use of P&O's website, so I googled it and came up with two websites - poferries...

p and o ferry

Advantages: good value for money
Disadvantages: woken early food expensive

...Wow i still cannot get over how fantastic this ferry is! Last week me and 9 friends caught this ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, the cost of this trip was £55 pound each or 2 for £69 at the money which is a special offer only available to travel on Thursday to Saturday. When arriving at Hull port we were immediately greated by some P&O staff that were very friendly and helpful, we was able to check in after queueing for around 5 minutes. Because we were in a group of ten we had to book in an 8 and a 2 due to P&O changing the booking numbers apparently after getting large groups of people causing trouble, and this was there way of preventing this. At the enterance to the ship the crew were there to greet us and help us in the direction of our rooms. We choose to take the lift which brought us into the centre of a maze of cabins. Once in our...

Minicruise to Bilbao - P&O Ferries

Advantages: Can be a cheap getaway
Disadvantages: Queues, delays, smoking still allowed in some internal areas

...I have just returned from my latest foray into P&O's world of mini-cruise by ro-ro ferry, this time traveling from Portsmouth to Bilbao in Northern Spain on what turned out to be the Halloween themed Cruise, I wasnt aware of this when I booked. To sum the trip up, I would have to say that it would not be an experience that I would wish to repeat in the near future. To be fair to P&O many of the problems that have resulted in my desicsion not to repeat the experience were not problems that they had much influence over, but I still feel that there should be a better system in place to cope with delays. I arrived at Portsmouth at 18.30 which was the ticketed boarding time with a departure time of 21.30. On check in I was told that there had been adverse weather conditions in the Bay of Biscay which resulted in the Ferry being late...

Scotland to Ireland ferry

Advantages: Modern ship, fast crossing, comfortable seating
Disadvantages: Staff on car deck, high prices

...or Southern Scotland & the link is operated by Stena to Belfast who I have used in the past. From further north in Scotland, Stranraer is not the easiest place to get to with just 'A' type roads approaching it where you always get stuck behind several HGVs, tour buses, tractors, caravans & the odd Sunday driver, even on a weekday. Cairnryan is slightly further north & the link there is served by P&O direct to Larne which is about 30 minutes driving time to Belfast, traffic permitting. This time I chose Troon in Western Scotland close to Ayr as it meant less driving time for me to get there & it went direct to Larne. It too is operated by P&O & for this trip they use a high speed ferry which has a journey time of around two hours. P&O's website quoted £245.00, a little steep I felt but after spending the good part of 20 minutes looking at cut...

P and O Ferries an insiders view

Advantages: Comfortable, relaxing, reasonably priced.
Disadvantages: Time of crossing

...This is not a view about a particular bad crossing or a good one, but some general advice about P&O Ferries as a whole. Having worked on the 'Pride of Portsmouth' and 'Pride of Le Havre' on the Portsmouth to Le Havre run for over a year I'ld like to offer an impartial view of the whole operation, services offered and general quality. For those of you reading this who are thinking about going on a crossing and are a little apprehensive about the whole thing, don't be. These two ships are two of the largest and most comfortable ferries afloat. They are both equipped with computer controlled stabilisers that reduce any rolling movement and ensure a good nights sleep - or drinking what ever you prefer!! The food on board in the restaurent is good and reasonably priced - in my opinion the best place to eat. Otherwise you also have...

P and O Hull Zeebrugge - Pride of Brugge/York

Advantages: Relaxing travel, good price, If you want a cruising taster a good option
Disadvantages: Expensive onboard food, innacurate cabin, transfer bus confusion.

...We have just come back from a 2 night plus 1 night in Brugge going Hull to Zeebrugge on 'Pride of Brugge' returning on 'Pride of York' travelling outbound on Brugge and back on York. Trip cost £182 and was in a Premier 2 berth both ways (window out) and (inside) return. I would throughly recommend as a different way to reach Eurupe and explore the lovely city of Brugge. We took the trip based on an excellent trip to Calais earlier on in the year and this trip was equally enjoyable - albeit a little different to a Dover day trip. While P and O have a detailed and relatively easy to use web site it can be glitchy sometimes needing several attempts to book both the right day and right direction. Differing cabin classes seems to cause problems. We had hoped to book both ways in club but were forced to book premier as club was fully...

P&O Ferries - The right way to cross the channel

Advantages: Lovely Ferries
Disadvantages: Reliability

...I have used P&O ferries quite a few times and each time it has been a pleasure. My most recent trip with them was at the end of February when I went skiing. Right from the word go you can tell it is going to be a pleasant trip. When you drive on to the ferry there are people there who tell you where to go. When you climb up the steps and you see inside the ferry you think wow. It is nicely decorated, it is clean and it is appealing. There are a lot of facilities on board so you will have plenty to do during the crossing. There are signs all over the ferry to direct you to certain places e.g. toilets The first place I went when I got on board was the ' International Food Court '. When I got in there I was very impressed. It was well set out, spacious and felt generally nice. The food was of a high quality, and was a great price. I...

escape for a short cheap break with P O ferries

Advantages: relaxing and inexpensive way to visit the continent for a short break. comfortable cabins excellent food
Disadvantages: crossing can be rough in winter months and lack of security is a bit worrying in the present climate

...Travelled to Bruges from Hull on 1st February 2003 with my partner. The ferry was the Pride of Hull which departed on the Friday evening and arrived Saturday morning at 8am. We then transferred to Bruges by coach, after an excellent breakfast which was great value from self service buffet. The en-suite cabin was very cosy and adequate for an overnight crossing. There is a shower and toiletries provided with towels. We spent an interesting day in Bruges, despite the weather ....... five inches of snow....however plenty of cosy cafes to get something warm to eat and drink at a reasonable price. The coach picked us up at the railway station and we arrived safely back to board the ferry for our return journey. The staff were excellent, plenty of entertainment on boardand the shopping facilities were very good. The cigarette prices...

Review of P & O North Sea Ferries

"A New Era In Ferry Travel" - Apparently...

Advantages: Very comfortable ferries, loads to do, generally good service
Disadvantages: The occasional slip-up

...UPDATE: 3/11/04. Renewed membership means every review I've ever written is to come under scrutinous inspection....and must-needed updating. Yep, the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) are famous for ferry travel from Britain to Europe. Although they do offer a variety of other services (N.B. despite keeping the name, P&O Cruises is no longer a P&O subsidiary, it is owned by cruise-giant Carnival) this is a hopefully brief history of P&O Ferries. P&O offered ferry services from the early seventies to 1985, when the ferries division was sold to Townsend Thoresen. This was all part of a master plan though as in 1986 P&O actually bought Townsend Thoresen out. Things remained as usual on the surface, the ships keeping their Orange and green-funnelled liveries until March 1987, when the Herald of Free Enterprise sunk...
