Packard Bell Multimedia HD (revised)
Advantages: Very useful product, quiet and well made
Disadvantages: few and very irrelevant
...>>>>>>>> PACKARD BELL Store & Play 3500 - REVISED REVIEW <<<<<<<<
When I first bought this multimedia Hard Disk, these kind of peripherals were still an expensive novelty.
For who doesn't know yet, a multimedia hard disk is an external hard disk where you can store your media files from the computer (video, music and pictures) and then plug it to the TV and enjoy them on big screen. Before these became widely available (and having the computer usually too far from the TV) I had to write everything on CD or DVDs (which are limited to 700MB and 4.5GB respectively) and then play them on the DVD player.
You can imagine how many hours and CD or DVDs lost for something you might even watch only once and never again.
Needless to say that I've been dreaming of a product like this for years. All my films (and possibly...

THIS PACKARD`S A BELLE
Advantages: Cheap Cheap Cheap
Disadvantages: Hard-disk on the smallish side
...Time was when buying a new PC would leave very little change from a thousand pounds for even the most basic of systems, but with mass production of components and increased competition from retailers PC prices have tumbled to such an extent that an adequate system can be purchased for just a few hundred pounds. This is where the Packard Bell 3051 iMedia comes in; a friend of mine was looking for a new PC and despite my protestations had decided that PC World was the shop to get his custom. A look around the various models on display unearthed what seemed to be a veritable bargain - the above mentioned system for just £310. Some questioning of a shop assistant revealed that this price did not include a monitor but since the friend in question had purchased a TFT monitor not four months ago this was ideal as far as he was concerned. So...

Pass the Buck with Packard Bell
Advantages: Good computers
Disadvantages: Poor customer service, patronising staff
...I am more than pleased with my Packard Bell computer however I am not happy with their level of customer service. I recently required some technical advice from them regarding the restore disk they supplied with my PC. I was referred by them to the point of sale (PC World). They in turn referred me back to Packard Bell saying it was not their reponsibility. A further call to PB eventually got me through to a tchnician who treated me as if I was totally thick. His whole attitude was patronising. Needless to say I didn't get very far with this enquiry. Instead I e-mailed my query to them. I got an automated reply saying my mail had arived but I have to this day heard nothing further despite 6 other e-mails being sent to and received by Packard Bell.
I have finally given up on them and resolved the problem I was experiencing by going...

Packard Bell EasyNote R8760
Advantages: Very quick processor, large memory, all mod cons
Disadvantages: As with anything too technical they tend to have glitches
...is very black and shiny, which makes any films or programmes you watch on it absolutely magnificent.
When closed it is about an inch thick and slightly bigger than the 15.4" screen. I would say it is very portable, not too heavy.
My Experience
-------------------
I must first of all tell you how I came to purchase this machine. My brother is a computer shop owner and does consultancy work for big companies. He gave me the name of someone he buys laptops off. This contact sells refurbished machines as new. My laptop came with no visible signs of having being used before. I am assured that he puts new casing on them and basically gets them back to the state they were originally sold in. It was also sold to me with 12 months Packard Bell warranty, so this is not like buying a laptop second hand. The price is very good though - I...

Packard Bell easynotes SW-51
Advantages: Large 17" glossy display, Numeric keypad
Disadvantages: No Serial or Parralell ports
...The Packard Bell easynote Laptop PC is a very nice looking machine with it's wide screen aspect 17 inch display giving room for a full sized keyboard with numeric keypad to the right hand side. the screen is of the glossy type and make using this machine a delight offing good contrast between light and dark area's in the display. It does not have a Floppy drive but these are not used much today anyway other lacking things are external ports, there is no serial or parralell ports although there are 4 hi-speed usb port 2 on the right rear and 2 on the right side, there is VGA output on the left and SVHS outputs on the rear, also a built in modem and Ethernet connection both at the left side of the machine. it has a DVD/cd writer and a large 'mouse pad' with easy to use left and right buttons as you would expect the mouse pad can also...

Packard Bell DVD-DIVX 350
Advantages: Great visual and audio quality
Disadvantages: None
...The packard Bell DVD-DIVX 350 bring create visual and audio qualities. The DVD Player - with MP3 Playback - without Real Dolby - without Show View - with Photo CD Playback - with DivX Playback. I know you may think why do I need all of this when all I want to do is play DVD when I can pick up a cheaper one from Tesco for under £10. Well these DVD players dont offer the same quality as the more expensive DVD players. This is if you want the high quality surround sound. The cheaper dvd player may not have as long as a life the the more expensive well known brands and you could experience juttering and freezing throughout the dvd. So this is why I reccomend the Packard Bell DVD player. It is very easy to use and have many functions. Even if you dont want them, I still reccomend this for the high quality of movie you get without having to...

Packard Bell interchangeable optical mouse
Advantages: Great device
Disadvantages: Bit noisy
...I cannot stand the stupid, stupid, stupid mouse pad device thingies that come with laptop. I mean, sorry, life is too short to have to try to mess with these spawn of the devil style devices.
So in the same branch of Dixons that I bought my new laptop (sadly, this ultra-user-friendly and extremely good branch of Dixons was culled not so long back and we are supposed to now go to the nearest branch of PC World, home of the sneering techo-nerds, who love to show how clever they are and how stupid their customers are. But, I digress.
Back to the Packard Bell Mouse. I chose Packard Bell because I know the brand and because, knowing the brand, had laso chosen to buy a Packard Bell laptop.
I decided that I wanted one of the new-fangled optical mouses. Or is that meeces? Dang, correct grammar is not alwayseasy when applying it to new...

Packard Bell - A Trouble Free PC
Advantages: reliable, good value, excellent support, good package
Disadvantages: None
...The Packard Bell Club80 PC represents good value for money. It was easy to set everything up and came with excellent instructions which will certainly help the first time buyer.
The package came complete with DVD Rom, 17" monitor, printer, scanner, digital camera and a host of useful software including Microsoft Word 2000, Windows 98 SE (on disc!), Norton Antivirus, Encarta99 and money 99 to name but a few. It made a pleasant change for a PC to come with worthwhile software and not a load of rubbish that gets left on the shelf.
The system also comes with an excellent restore disk enabling you to reinstall your system to the factory settings should disaster strike.
In all a powerful, reliable and easy to use system. A great overall package....

My first laptop, Packard Bell IGO 4451
Advantages: reliable, customer support is awesome
Disadvantages: heats up really quickly as the cool air goes through bottom, cd writer stopped working
...I have been using desktop pcs until i started university and decided to buy a laptop. Alot of people asked me to buy from Dell but i could not resist the price tag and spec of this machine about 3 years ago.
yes, i have been using this laptop since 3 years now when it first came out. It has been very reliable, i have not had any big issues with it.
It cost me £900, for 1.49Ghz processor, 224 Ram, 20GB disk, DVD/CDRW combo drive.
Operating system was not provided with the machine or any rebooting software and this was sorted initially after one phone call to PC World as it was their fault.
The CDRW has stopped working NOW and it only READS cds for some reason. It did work till 2 years and it probably does not work now because of me...i burn alot ;)
Overall this is very reliable and packard bell customer support is great...
