Packard Bell EasyNote GN45-032 Skype edition

Advantages: Great little laptop with lots of useful features
Disadvantages: The disk drive stopped working, but still in warenty

...The laptop that I am reviewing is very slightly different to the one featured, as it is the packard bell easynote GN45-032, although the only real difference is that my laptop has a 160GB memory compared to the GN45-P-050 which has 80GB, mine did not come with vista loaded, but have since loaded it and my laptop is a skype edition which basically means that it has a button next to the camera which takes you straight to skype, which is a programme which allows the user to make free video internet phone calls to anyone anywhere in the world. Advantages: Large 17" glossy display, Numeric keypad
Disadvantages: No Serial or Parralell ports

...The Packard Bell easynote Laptop PC is a very nice looking machine with it's wide screen aspect 17 inch display giving room for a full sized keyboard with numeric keypad to the right hand side. the screen is of the glossy type and make using this machine a delight offing good contrast between light and dark area's in the display. Advantages: Very quick processor, large memory, all mod cons
Disadvantages: As with anything too technical they tend to have glitches

...is very black and shiny, which makes any films or programmes you watch on it absolutely magnificent. When closed it is about an inch thick and slightly bigger than the 15.4" screen. I would say it is very portable, not too heavy. My Experience ------------------- I must first of all tell you how I came to purchase this machine. My brother is a computer shop owner and does consultancy work for big companies. He gave me the name of someone he buys laptops off. This contact sells refurbished machines as new. My laptop came with no visible signs of having being used before. I am assured that he puts new casing on them and basically gets them back to the state they were originally sold in. ...I exchanged my Apple iBook G4 for a Packard Bell EasyNote R0205 (second hand), the EasyNote is 512MB Ram, 50Gb HDD, 15" Screen, Gigabite Wireless Card, Windows XP Professional installed. I am generally quite happy with the laptop and use it nearly all the time, I have quit using my desktop which is very powerful compared to the easynote. But even with my constant use I have found a few problems. - Cheaply created laptop - Old Model for Today - The laptop mouse always has occasional problems I wanted a laptop for everyday use, so something quite powerful but with all the flaws it does the trick. ...I am more than pleased with my Packard Bell computer however I am not happy with their level of customer service. I recently required some technical advice from them regarding the restore disk they supplied with my PC. I was referred by them to the point of sale (PC World). They in turn referred me back to Packard Bell saying it was not their reponsibility. A further call to PB eventually got me through to a tchnician who treated me as if I was totally thick. His whole attitude was patronising. Needless to say I didn't get very far with this enquiry. Instead I e-mailed my query to them. The first reason i bought it was that it had a lovely design and i wasn't overly fussed about it's running speed, although it is fine when i am only using a couple of programs at the same time. Packard Bell are a great company

Advantages: excellent customer service, good durable longlife models
Disadvantages: customer service is hellishly expensive

...When my dad wanted his first computer, I didnt hesitate in recommending Packard Bell. I had bought my computer from them a year and a half before, and I am still using it now! Which is great as it has a 260 MHz processor and 32Mb RAM but it seems to work just as fast as my dads! I see myself getting many more years out of this model yet! The customer services and post-purchase support is excellent here in the UK, but I have to say you must either work for a phone compnay and get your bills paid for or remortgage your house if you ring their helpline with any serious problems, as the calls cost 75p a minute. One time my dad was on hold for 10 minutes which already ate up £7.50! I loved the fact that I got a lot of software with the computer, and that everything is compatible, unlike my darn laptop I purchased a year later. Id recommend...
