Partying at the Palace (ish)

Advantages: Comfortable, clean, good staff
Disadvantages: A few faults, doesnt live up to expectations

...This review is about my Christmas party experience at the Strand Palace Hotel. This year, I was in charge of organising our office Christmas party, and, being based in South East London, the department tends to head to Bromley or Greenwich for a meal. But this year we decided to go all out, and go 'up west', and so I came across the Strand Palace hotel on my googlequest and we decided to go posh as well. The booking process was slightly tiresome, seeing as the particular member of staff we made our booking through was somewhat challenged in the brains department. The initial booking process was easy. We booked ourselves in for the three-course carvery meal, and then Channy and I (the office babies) were sent scuttling around collecting everybody's cash (£33 per head). All was sent in when a couple of weeks later, the girl calls me...

LONDON'S CALLING

Advantages: Pleasent stay, good food, central location
Disadvantages: Views from room

...difficulties in access and room lighting I really enjoyed this stay at The Strand Palace hotel. It was extremely central to our needs, and offered polite helpful, knowledgeable staff. It was very clean throughout and I will have no hesitation in booking here again. I am gradually getting more mobile so I can now manage a few steps: however, if you are mobility impaired and by yourself this hotel might be best avoided. Recommended: Thanks for reading ? The Strand Palace Hotel

Advantages: Central location, clean
Disadvantages: Food, rooms

...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too. Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly. My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern. I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower. The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close. The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

Stranded in London!

Advantages: Excellent central location; good bars and restaurants
Disadvantages: Rooms a bit old fashioned; a little pricey

...Two nights at the Strand Palace and a visit to see the new Dirty Dancing stage show - bought for my wife's birthday. I even paid the extra £20 pppn for a superior "club" room. We were really looking forward to it. Total price was around £240 for the two of us for two nights (no breakfast). We arrived at Covent Garden tube station (the nearest one to the hotel), and after a little finger-in-the-air direction finding, got to the hotel on foot in under 10 minutes at a leisurely pace. Check-in was a little busy when we got there at 2:30 - we waited in the queue for around 20 minutes, but it was fairly quick when we were seen to. We were checked-in to a room on the 7th floor (there are 9 in the hotel), but we were *so* disappointed when we walked in. The room was tiny - smaller than our bedroom at home. It also overlooked the "well...

A Palace of History

Advantages: Beautiful rooms; Historical'; loads to see
Disadvantages: Huge!!

...Hampton Court Palace is about one of the 60 palaces built for King Henry VIII in about 1513. In my opinion, it must be the grandest and mightiest of all the Palaces with over 1100 rooms, acres upon acres of garden, mazes, tennis and bowling courts. It is located next to the River Thames in London. It took me, my mum and step-dad just 1 1/2 to drive there from Portsmouth. The castle is relatively well signposted and it's mainly straight road and motor way with few confusing turn-off's but then again, this is only relavant from where I am travelling from. We passed through some lovely old villages on the way so the journey was pleasing. You can also catch the train of course - the station is basically right next to it! When you arrive, there is a car park of which, you pay for on departing. It costs £3.50 for 3 hours and an extra 50p...

The grand-ish Strand

Advantages: location, location, location!
Disadvantages: Work in progress

...When Lee Mead won BBC's 'Any Dream Will Do' my mum was ecstatic. She had probably spent half her wages voting for him, so tickets to see him play Joseph were an obvious choice for her birthday in November last year. Thinking it was a brilliant idea, she then invited my nan and aunt, and just for good measure, I decided to drag my husband along as I'd never experienced a show in Londons famous theatre land. We soon realised it was a fair way to travel and we had might as well make the most of our adventure and booked a show and stay theatre trip. After reading up on the choice of hotels, we opted for the 3 star Strand Palace as it a) looked pretty swanky from the photo, b) was only 5 minutes from the Adelphi where Joseph was playing c) was cheaper than some of the others AND included breakfast! Bargain. Our cab driver was...

Thistle Hotel Kensington Palace London

Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: 2 star hotel and it deserves them

...the corridor cupboard doors have a leatherette cladding, the ones on our corridor were very obviously peeling away from the doors and looked tatty. Our room door stuck and had to be slammed shut. The bathroom extractor fan did not work hence the peeling paint on the bathroom ceiling. Glazing was poor with lots of street noise able to come into the room. Lumpy pillows. Good bits. The breakfast was wholesome and fresh, the pork and leek sausages were lovely. The resaurant although looked clean felt sterile with no atmosphere. Maid service was good. Nice clean towels. Good location right opposite Kensington Palace and just along form Hyde Park. 15 minutes walk from Harrods and Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge. 2 minutes walk from Kensington High Street and Tube Station....

Hampton Court Palace, right royal welcome

Advantages: Great royal history, inside and out
Disadvantages: None at all

...ancient amid fountains, garden features and places to sit awhile to appreciate the really impressive architecture of the palace. Hampton Court Palace is the setting for one of the world's most renowned flower shows, a must for me next year in July. The guides live their subject. The history comes alive and it is just amazing to see how kings and queens have enjoyed their breaks there, a short barge trip up the Thames, from London. Nowadays, the trip is easy because you get a special Hampton Court Palace train from London - Waterloo which takes 32 minutes, from the station its a short walk to the palace. Green Line Coach has regular services or get the 111, 411, R68, 501, 440, 513, 726, 267 buses or if driving it is on the A308. If taking a river launch, join it at Westminster, Richmond or Kingston. You can take the Underground by...

A Pauper's Palace

Advantages: Superb location, cheap rates considering location
Disadvantages: Rubbish breakfast, tiny bathrooms, slow service

...Long before I stayed at the Regents Palace Hotel, close to Piccadilly Circus, I had the impression that it must be rather a nice place to stay. From the exterior one gets the impression that it is quite swish and, of course, one assumes that it must be quite costly given its location in the very heart of the West End. Therefore it was never an accommodation option I considered when looking for somewhere to stay in the capital until I found myself needing a hotel during one of the all too frequent public transport strikes. I had won a competition to go the MOBO awards with a nights accommodation at the rather grand Sunbourn Yacht Hotel in Docklands but wanted to extend the trip by a night to do some shopping and go on the London Eye; those being my main considerations I knew I would need somewhere fairly central. Each website I looked...

Not Much of a PALACE!

Advantages: Cheap, excellent location.
Disadvantages: Grubby and bad check in.

...During my hectic September, travelling to and fro on a quest for beer and music, we spent two days in London to go to the last concert in Rick Astley?s UK Tour, meaning that we had to spend a night in a central London hotel. I must point out that the hotel was booked for us, paid for by Rick Astley (name dropper) and picked purely for its location rather than anything else. Our friend Bob, who was visiting the concert with us, was given leave to book a reasonably priced hotel in the area around The Criterion Theatre ~ so he looked on the Internet and chose two double rooms and one single room at The Regent Palace Hotel. ~~~Where is The Regent Palace? You will find the hotel just off Regents Street and Piccadilly Circus, overlooking the statue of Eros, and not far from Shaftsbury Avenue, Oxford Street and, of course...
