the Palm Treo 500 - a macintosh users perspective!
Advantages: keypad, email, bubble breaker
Disadvantages: battery life
...I chose the Palm Treo 500 for the fact that it has a full keypad for typing, in the style of the blackberry and iphone design rather than having to rely on predictive text etc for email, and although the buttons are naturally small, this aspect of the phone is still very appealing. Caps lock typing can be very awkward however... As a macintosh user, I wasn't sure about using a windows based product, but the functionality is very good and simple to use.
Email - for a pop3/imap4 account, once set up works very well although it helps if you have experience of setting up email accounts as you need to know all the settings or where to get hold of them...
Internet I find is perfectly functional but the screen size makes browsing frustrating! It is important with the Palm Treo and similar products to not expect too much from these facilities...

m500. All the information in the Palm in my hand!
Advantages: Stylish, light and functional
Disadvantages: No colour screen
...I've had the m500 for about two years now and it has never let me down. It's a good solid PDA work horse. The software that's preinstalled, although basic does "exactly what it says on the tin".
The calendar / appointment function displays are clear and appointments can be set to repeat daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. Various alarms can be set to remind you of appointments and there is also a vibration feature with can be used in conjuntion with or without the alarm.
The address book is easy to set up and has enough fields to add e-mail and multiple telephone numbers for home, business mobile etc.
There is also a basic "To do..." list function which you can assign priorities to and store in seperate folders.
A useful feature for jotting things down is also available which works like an electronic post-it note. At first I...

Good phone, but screen is easy to scratch!
Advantages: Nice looking phone, feature rich
Disadvantages: screen scratches, not the most durable phone on the market.
...I like the palm treo 500 - it looks good and provides plenty of features for users on the go, my favourite being the email feature - now I get emails delivered to my phone I can't imagine life without it. The Palm treo seems to have everything, but one problem remains - it just isn't hard wearing enough.
Within the first week of me getting my phone the screen had light scratches on it and by the end of the first month it got so bad that it was hard to use the phone - I don't believe this is because I don't look after it, it remains in my jacket most of the time and every other phone I have owned has always looked immaculate with a well kept screen, the palm treo though hasn't followed in this tradition! Luckily I managed to find some screen polish on ebay that manages to get rid of these scratches, but it does get annoying to keep...

In you Palm
Advantages: A neat unit with lots of applications
Disadvantages: None
...The Palm Tungsten is a sleek cool looking handheld with a vast array of features that are going to suit the majority of users. It comes with most of these features pre-loaded, but there are more on the provided CD which also contains the software to enable synchronization with your PC or Mac. Also provided in the box are several power adaptors which will make in rechargeable almost worldwide. Although the unit comes with Bluetooth there is also an additional cable supplied which will link your Palm to your computer for the transfer of data. I have found through experience that the cable method is definitely significantly quicker compared with the Bluetooth, but again each to their own.
One thing I have noticed is that the lifespan of the internal rechargeable lithium battery is greatly improved from previous...

Stylish, good range of features and fast internet, but poor build
Advantages: Good size, good features, easy to use, feels good, stylish, fast internet and good battery life.
Disadvantages: Poor build quality, some software issues.
...Having used Palm for several years in varying shape and form, when looking for a new mobile phone to replace a Nokia, given good experiences of Palm in the past, it seemed a good idea to give their new (as was then) smart phone a try.
The first three or so months of owning the phone proved the 500 has plenty of features and is rather user friendly, it felt and looked great and build quality hadn't proven to be much of a problem, however after this time, things started to go downhill. The main glitch would be the socket used to plug in a USB cable / charger. The quality of this is has proven to be questionable, considering that it is very easy to disconnect the socket from the main circuit board inside the phone, making charging either challenging or impossible.
Other build quality issues include how well the keys are fixed. The qwerty...

Palm TX
Advantages: everything! cheap reliable, fantastic features
Disadvantages: no spare stylus or screen protectors in box
...I got my new Palm TX in August this year and I have been very impressed with its performance and flexibility. I previously owned a Palm Tungsten E which screen was 320 x 320 resolution and had no Bluetooth or Wi-fi, so these 2 features are great additions for me.
For those who have never used a PDA they are all touch screen and most have handwriting recognition to save having a keyboard and in Palm handhelds this is called Graffiti and is very handy when writing as you can just write as you normally would.
The Screen size of the TX is 320 x 460 so videos can be viewed in landscape and portrait modes, so effectively can be in widescreen. The video quality is very impressive and I would highly recommend in investing in a 2GB SD card for those long journeys.
The new palm desktop software is similar to the previous but has a much easier...

Palm Top of the pile
Advantages: Light, powerful, elegant, good battery life, lots of software available.
Disadvantages: Not a stand alone product
...Once you have mastered Graffiti, which takes next to no time, then the Palm is an excellent tool to have at one's disposal. It has an advatage in terms of size over the Psion in that you can really put it in a shirt, jacket or trouser pocket. The software (Chapura Pocket Mirror) supplied, which allows you to connect the cradle to your computer and synchronise your Palm with Outlook is excellent, and is something I use a great deal, rather than using Palm Desktop as a syncing tool. Indeed for users of other software, it is possible to download from the web anything you require.
The range of freeware and the easiness of installation via HotSync is outstanding. Whilst the IIIe is for everyone, the Vx is certainly more for the business man, which explains the IR link, allowing you to beam contacts, appointments and other things to other...

Palm Tungsten E2
Advantages: Stylish, Durable, Easy to use.
Disadvantages: No Wifi, Limited SD Card Memory
...I bought the E2 about a year ago (2007). Since then I have greatly enjoyed using it. This Palm Pilot comes with Real Player, and all the other great programs that Palm always includes. It is very easy to install new programs from the internet and on the disc that is included in the package. It is very handy when managing one's daily life. I personally use it to manage my money, daily, monthly, and yearly activities, its great if you need to jot something down real quick, It stores all my phone contacts and eMails. Its also great for checking eMail on the go. You can download your eMails from you computer through the mail application or it you have a Bluetooth connection to your phone you can check via that. What is also handy is you can store photos, songs, video clips, and other media on a SD Card up to 1 GB. Plus you can transfer...

The Palm
Advantages: Great colour and comparative value for money. Rechargeable battery a big plus.
Disadvantages: Slightly bulkier than average PDA's
...The Palm IIIc handheld PDA is a great help for an experienced Palmer.
First off, if you must have color this is a must have for you because the color is crisp and clear.
If you would like a good audio, music, sound this is probably not for you because of the high peak of the volume, very low, would be too quiet to hear in a croud of people or any place where it is noisy.
If you are a first user I would suggest the Palm X, Palm IIIe they are cheap and work great!
I found the unit to have excellent contrast and display. Once you are used to colour - it is difficult to go back to monochromatic displays.
This is the color version of the Palm 3 and looks better and clearer for it. Memory is not upgradable and 8mb is not a huge amount. I have 3mb left and starting to worry. Bad mistake but I will cope...
