THE PANASONIC WONDER.

Advantages: GOOD PICTURE QUALITY WITH WIDE RANGE OF FEATURES.

Superb little entry level camcorder

Advantages: Small, light, 30 x optical zoom, good battery
Disadvantages: Can be awkward to use, no firewire cable

...I film a lot of rugby matches, and, as I was getting ready for a Saturday morning match, on the Friday evening I decided to check my camcorder (JVC - 6 years old, mini-DV). It did not work, and I could not make it work, so I went to a well-known department store and bought a new one. I wanted a mini DV camcorder, preferably with DV-in, and a good optical zoom. The assistant informed me that DV-in was now uncommon, but otherwise I could choose from about eight models. A rough mental calculation showed that the best price/zoom combination was the Panasonic NV-GS37, which, as it was the display model, had a discount. ...ranges, which I liked, I lighted upon the Panasonic. Both the size and weight (or lack of both, if you follow me) struck me all of a heap. The thing is about the same bulk as a couple of large Swan-Vestas matchboxes placed side-by-side, and typically weighs less than my wallet. With a nice streamlined body it drops into a pocket with ease, which is actually something of a danger, but we'll come to that in a moment. At least I can forget my wrists. This particular model, it must be emphasised, is not high definition. I wasn't interested in HD for two reasons: we don't need it for family shots and, as a rock-bottom minimum, HD doubles the price. It also produces planet-sized files, and frankly I have better things to do than wait ages while the things load, are edited, and then rendered, quite apart from all the other upgrades necessary...

Making bad photographers into good ones!

...As a model I spend most of my time in front of a camera and I have therefore never owned a good one of my own. Recently I decided to put this right, I did not go crazy and buy a big DSLR like the pros shoot me with but I did spend decent money on a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS62EB-R which was recommended to me by thebigc1690 (a guy on here who knows a thing or two about cameras and is also one of my photographers. Now my review for this camera will be in no way technical, simply because I would make a fool of myself if I tried to go into how all the settings work, I just know that they do. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS62EB-R has a ten megapixel sensor which means you get very high quality and very clear and detailed images and it also has a 4 x optical zoom so you can get a bit closer to what you are shooting without actually getting closer...

Nice one Panasonic!

Advantages: Great recorder with good clean looks
Disadvantages: Being rapidly overtaken by DVD recorders

...If you need a VCR then be quick as they'll not be around for much longer. DVD recorders are quickly replacing them. In fact I recently bought a DVD recorder myself! So why did I also buy one of these? Very simple. I've got lots of tapes with home movies and all my favourite films I've recorded off the telly over many years. So I still want to view them.
