...I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes. The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong. It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place it on the dashboard and in use I've found that it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! No slip shod slap dash sloppy sat nav . . .

As I compared several models I feel I am qualified to write a review on this Sat Nav. Garmin is well known for Satnav, but they also make Mobile phones, Laptops, PDAs, 2 way radios, and even dog tracking systems. They do echo sounders for boats, as well as chartplotters, fishfinders, and even radar sets. They are a "new" company (1989) and have a stong foothold in the navigation market. Garmin call this a personal travel assistant, this is an entry level job, but I tend to think that is just a marketing trick to make you want the next model. The device comes already pre-loaded with maps covering the whole of Europe. It has the usual touch screen and is of course very slim. The database is already loaded...

A no nonsense sat nav unit with great features

Advantages: Size, cost, features, display, windscreen mount
Disadvantages: Out dated information, power lead inflexible, poor battery performance

...I was looking for a no nonsense sat nav unit that was small enough to fit inside a jacket pocket when not used. Tom Tom had just introduced the basic 'One' model with the new XL (extra large) screen. It came with a car based power lead, USB lead, CD, manual, SD card with UK & Ireland on it & what I thought at first was a rather flimsy windscreen mount but no slip cover. The flimsy looking mount has turned out to be quite fantastic, once attached to the screen it holds the device rock solid & can be difficult to remove!! Even when driving over rough roads the unit never shakes or vibrates & I don't feel the need to upgrade to a more durable mount. The sat nav unit very quickly finds a decent reception & entering a location is made easy with a choice of a post code or address. There is only one switch on the unit for switching it on & off...

Low Bridge, no problem, this is the best truck sat nav

Advantages: Clear instructions, many extra features, avoids all trucking hazards.

...Problem - My husband is a trucker and travels all over the country doing different routes virtually every day, He uses a Tom Tom GO as a basic Sat-nav which is great, but does not take into consideration any of the extra hazards that LGV drivers encounters daily. At around £450 it certainly isn't an easy decision to make to purchase one, and seeing as they are only distributed by the makers, you won't find it much cheaper than that either.
