Inexpensive profile 2.0 Blu-Ray player

Using a DVD disc in the Panasonic Blu-Ray player gives a good upscaled result (e.g. better than my old DVD player connected via SCART cable) but still not as good as with a proper Full HD source. Sound Quality If you have a good home-cinema system with an appropriate digital optical audio input the sound can also be stunning. My system has never sounded so good, with incredibly controlled deep bass and fine imaging and detail even during the quieter sequences. This is not really a reflection of the player which is just outputting the digital signal from the Blu-ray disk, but it was easy to set up and does demonstrate that you really don't need to have the analogue electrical output (these are actually restrictive anyway and for optimum results you probably want to decode using...

A good Blu Ray player at a reasonable price

Advantages: Vibrant picture, reasonable price.
Disadvantages: Some 'jerkiness'. Limited SD Card and Divx capability. Some expected formats not accepted.

...Panasonic AVCHD structure. And finally although the player is DIVx compatible it will only play these from DVD-R (not R/W) and CD-R (not R/W). It cannot play DIVx Ultra nor Divx in HD. Do note the limitations on audio output (the BD55 has more options). If you wish to check out the specification go to the Panasonic site and download the manual. As blu ray had won the HD war I wanted to build a blu ray library rather than extend my DVD library. This player is v2 compliant and firmware upgradeable so hopefully will not be out of date too quickly. Again the firmware upgrade is an oddity. If you have a network cable to plug in it will update automatically. If, like me, your network is far away you can download the firmware to a pc but then you have to burn (and close) a CD. Transformers tranform on to blu - ray

Advantages: Good film with excellent special effects
Disadvantages: none

...good and evil, but with cutting edge special effects and action scenes galore this is a great film to watch. The blu-ray version i watched was a 2 disc set with the second disc full of extras. There was a section on the history of transformers, and interviews with executive producers Steven Spielberg and Brian Goldner, writers Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, and director Michael Bay. There were also features on the animation used and the way they worked out where to do scenes. You also get a look at the military equipment seen and used in the film. This additional information is something you do not want to skip over, because it gives you a much deeper understanding of how much planning and work went into the final production. A good, pretty cheap blu-ray player!

Advantages: Brilliant Blu-ray player!
Disadvantages: Slow in downloading updates, Horrible menu system!

...this console mainly to play games because we have the Xbox for that which all-in-all i find a better GAMING console! However we use it as a blu-ray player, when we brought it, it was a relitively cheap, good quality blu-ray player comparitive to the others on the market at the same time and I have to say it is brilliant as a blu-ray player, plays all DVDs we have tried in truly stunning high quality HD! The menus however are not to my liking at all. So all-in-all I'd say if you were going to buy one of these buy it as a blu-ray player with the capabilities of playing games not as a games machine with the capability of playing blu-rays!...

A good Disney family film (Bolt Blu-ray disc)

Advantages: Rhino, Blu-ray and DVD with Rhino toy, good family watch
Disadvantages: Similar to other animated films

The Blu-ray makes the disc look very impressive at times especially with situations involving Bolt`s superpowers at the start of the film and the film is very well animated (as all Disney films are) and the computer effects all look very nice. The film is quite similar to other Disney films and as with all Disney films you know it will have a happy ending and it also works well for children and adults and is great to watch as a family. ***Summary*** Overall this is an excellent Disney film and an enjoyable watch as a family. Advantages: Brilliant plot, excellent picture quality, solid audio, good special features.

...understood and appreciated, and therefore I'm glad I decided to add this to my Blu-ray collection; and will undoubtedly view it numerous times in the future. The picture: The vast majority of Sony's Blu-rays look astonishing and are reference quality, with Vantage Point being no different. The Widescreen 2:40:1 presentation shows pristine picture quality consistently throughout the film. No grain whatsoever was present on my screen, and picture detail was also noticeably high. Everything from the sparkling sun on a warm summers day in Spain to the dark black of the assassin's sniper rifle looked was displayed brilliantly. I failed to view Vantage Point on a normal DVD, but I am sure that the Blu-ray picture would look far superior to the older format and would be worth upgrading for if you are a fan of the movie. Planet Earth Blu-Ray - a Mind Blowing Nature Series

Advantages: unbelievable visuals, stunning high definition, best wildlife series by far
Disadvantages: only one - last disc isn't HD

...Excellent value for money now you can pick this up for less than £25, I got mine from Play.com but you can find it on most online shops now, Amazon, eBay, etc. Stunning visuals and filmography coupled with David Attenborough's classic and informative narration, all add up to this unbelievably well made and engaging series, possibly the greatest wildlife/nature series ever made. Make sure you have a HDTV to watch this on for the best experience, as it really does need to be seen to be believed. Unfortunately, disc 5 is only a standard definition DVD, which is the only thing stopping this fantastic series getting 5 stars from me. However, don't let this put you off, as disc 5 is only the making of, and similar featurettes, meaning all nature footage is in HD on Blu Ray disc.
