Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. A cracking DVD recorder

Advantages: Ease of use, Picture quality, flexibility.
Disadvantages: Instruction manual could be clearer but you get to know in the end.

The cartridge type means that the disc is incased (but it can be easily removed to use it in other dvd player/recorders) so as the disc is protected from finger prints dust etc, you can get ones that are just a disc, but I find the cartridge type are better for me. dvd-r (these can only be written to once this is the norm for this format...

...Well what can I say,to behonest I was very sceptical about this dvd and about girls aloud in general until i watched this dvd.I was really blown away by the songs,the outfits and just general performance. I felt this dvd from 2006 showed the edgier sound and style of girls aloud,the whole dvd had a more mature sound and feel to it that I was expecting. This dvd really provided an insight into girls aloud,and I have to say they were all completely different to what I was expecting,they were actually down to earth! The 6 episodes are packed with what goes on behind the scenes with the band members,what they go through,where and when,it shows there cometimes hectic lifes,through both a personal more private perspective and work perspective. Assuming the machine is switched on and the right channel is selected just push the Rec button on the remote or the unit itself and recording starts within a second. The beauty of this function is that you can pause live TV (as they say) and 'time slip'. This means you can start watching a saved program while it's still recording, you can also record a program and watch a previously recorded show or DVD. Unusual teen flick-Empire Records

Advantages: Quirky, fun and great soundtrack
Disadvantages: Predictable and a little sappy on occasions

...I first watched Empire records as a teenager and thought it was one of the best films ever made. Now nostalgia can make me watch it again and again and although I have down-graded it somewhat from 'World's Greatest Movie', I still feel that this is a good film about young adult life and deserves to be a teen classic. The film is about a group of teenagers who work in an independent record store (called Empire Records) run by Joe. The story opens with one of the employees, Lucas, discovereidng that the store is not making enough money and may be sold to a chain called Music Town. To try and save the shop he takes the day's takings and tries to win gambling in Atlantic City but ends up losing it all. First Beta-max, then VHS now DVD recorders... whatever next?

Disadvantages: No hard drive built in so do stock up on recordable DVDs

..., and this freedom of choice really confused my tiny little mind, so I had to do more research into which one would be best for me at a reasonable price. So when I came across a branded name, such as Panasonic, I took quite an interest in the DMR-ES10, with its numerous capabilities. Panasonic DMRE20 DVD Recorder

Advantages: Unbeatable recording quality, easy to use
Disadvantages: Now discontinued

...of the latest Pioneer DVD recorders, the DVR 3100 and was surprised to find that my older Panasonic DMRE20 noticeably out-performed it when compared in LP mode. Setting up is easy and straightforward and it also scores highly in terms of ease of use. One little quirky point for which Panasonic can offer no remedy is an error on the titling menu which inverts the letter M so that a recording of 'THE MUMMY' would appear as 'THE WUWWY' but if you can live with that then you won't be disappointed by this excellent recorder....
