Portrait of Paphos
Advantages: Charming combination of the old and the new give this resort something for everyone.
Disadvantages: Heat oppressive at height of summer. Some areas rather loud and built up
...it really does sprawl out over a rather large area. All the guidebooks will tell you that Paphos is divided into two main areas Ktima Paphos (the town) and Kato Paphos (the harbour). However, I think that there are actually three distinct areas of Paphos, the town, the harbour and the sprawling array of shops and restaurants that line either side of the Tomb of the Kings Road.
Ktima Paphos is situated slightly inland and houses a multitude of shops and offices, as well as the old Turkish/Greek quarter. If you enjoy shopping whilst on holiday, you'll be delighted to find branches of Marks and Spencer, Next and Debenhams, as well as all sorts of other Cypriot stores.
Kato Paphos is much more appealing to my mind. Worth noting is the free car parking by the harbour, especially at night. It's almost impossible to find a space to...

Perfect Paphos
Advantages: Friendly people, cheap food, great atmosphere, hot!
Disadvantages: perhaps too touristy, and will become more so in time
...to pick up a few bits, and then we went down to the square in Tala Village to have a drink. Tala Village is under a 5 minute walk from our Tala Hills apartment block, and has a couple of restaurants and places to drink, as well as a couple little shops. We sat down outside and had a beer each (Keo being the beer to drink in Cyprus. Brewed on the island, it is available everywhere). After that we decided to drive down to Paphos Harbour where we saw Paphos Castle, which is the smallest castle I have ever seen in my life! This was originally built as a fort to protect the harbour, but was destroyed and rebuilt after an earthquake in the thirteenth century. I?m not sure that there is much more known of the history of the castle, Wikipedia tells me that several archaeological excavations have taken place in order to find out more about its past...

Disadvantages: IMHO none
...Paphos Cyprus
This August will be my fourth visit to Paphos ? yes you?re right. I love Paphos.
For anyone thinking of going this year or whenever may I suggest a couple of hotels/restaurants. The King Jason Apartments is excellent. They are very clean, have a large swimming pool/kids pool and a gym/sauna/whirlpool. The staff are extremely friendly. It?s an excellent place for all types but especially families. It is a short distance from the harbour and shops say a ten-minute walk at the most. I?ve stayed at this aparthotel twice. Last year I stayed at the Chrystallo. This is a small friendly family run apartments. Rooms were very clean and staff very helpful. It?s only drawbacks were the pool was a bit too small and if you ordered anything to eat it was about 15-20 minute wait. If you are simply looking for a place to...

Paphos for all season Holidays.
Advantages: It is very friendly, drive on the Left hand side, and mostly speak English
Disadvantages: You can't lay on the beaches in the winter, and the evenings are cold.
...I have just returned home after a couple of weeks in Paphos.
This is my seventh visit to Paphos over 3 years. This time it was very different. Being my first visit since Cyprus changed over to Euros in Jan 2008, I was amazed to notice the changes that had already been made.
The Harbour had changed almost beyond recognition. For those of you who have already visited this area, you are in for a shock of delight.
The harbour sea front has now gone pedestrian. Gone the noisy buses, the taxis parked all along the sea front. the shabby little shops have now been replaced with smart boutiques and gift shops.
Restaurants are modern clean and inviting. It was almost finished when I returned and a few more weeks will see the completion.
The traffic is now diverted through the shop, by Debenhams and the Supermarket, the main...

Paphos in February? Never again!
Advantages: some decent weather
Disadvantages: chips with everything!
...the next year to get the full value so all I would say is if you are in Paphos and are tempted - don't bother! In fact you can have my free holiday vouchers instead!
So can we take solace in the food? Well, if you like chips with everything you are in for a treat! However, if you are looking for some typical cypriot fare you will be hard pushed to find some! It has been really disappointing. I am sure that we are probably looking in all the wrong places but I am just speaking from my own experience! Also none of the restaurants seem to have an authentic feel to them! They like to describe themselves as english pubs offering English football on widescreen TVs! We did pass one restaurant which described itself as a traditional taverna only to then display in big letters - ALL DAY ENGLISH BREAKFAST!
There is a very good and inexpensive bus...

Harvester Restaurants
Advantages: Always one close by, quick turn out, children are welcome and catered for.
Disadvantages: Toilets can be quite disturbing, not all dishes taste as good they are described.
...Harvester Restaurants
Restaurant Reviewed: Stag and Hounds
Winchester Road
Basingstoke
Hampshire
(next to Comet and Home Base)
The Harvester chain of Restaurants have over 2000 outlets across the United Kingdom and owned and operated by Mitchells and Butlers, who claim to be the UK's leading operator of managed pubs, bars and restaurants. Harvester claim to offer healthy eating, drinking and entertainment in one reasonably priced outlet.
**** Parking and Getting a Table *****
As with most of the Harvester's I have visited, there is usually ample free parking at the rear of the establishment. However on Saturday evenings and Sunday lunch times these places are heaving with customers, so avoid the crowds, go early and if possible ring and reserve a table. The Stag and Hounds is no exception but fortunately...

Paphos and Tala
Advantages: The Cypriot people, warm and sunny, many things to do and see
Disadvantages: None
...not an isolated village. It is an up-market residential area of Paphos with villa's and well designed, low rise apartments.
It is a 10 minute drive down to Paphos harbour with its many historical sites, shops and restaurants, To supermarkets etc is an even shorter drive.
If you like golf, then there are three international golf courses within easy reach. Tsada is an easy 15 minute drive away and the other two, not more than 30 minutes.
There is speedy access to the coast road as well as to the motorway connecting Paphos to its international airport and to Limassol, Larnaca and roads into the Troodos Mountains.
Tala is in the hills and due to this, the temperature is quite afew degrees cooler than at sea level. However, for comfort, make sure that any accomodation that you rent is fully airconditioned.
It does get quite...

Poor Hotel in Coral Bay Paphos
Advantages: Good Range of Food, in a Nice Location
Disadvantages: Not clean, staff not helpful
...We visited the Ascos Coral Beach Hotel last August and I'm afraid I really don't have many good things to say about it!
>>>>Overview<<<<
This is a 4 star hotel located in Coral Bay 11km Paphos. It is an adult only hotel and does not take bookings for anyone under the age of 16. It has 2 swimming pools one indoor and one outdoor, a gym, a Jacuzzi and a souvenir shop.
The hotel offer a half board option or an all inclusive option. We booked last minute on an all inclusive basis, this cost us just under £1000 which we thought was really good value.
>>>> LOCATION <<<<
The hotel is situated in Coral Bay which is about a 10 min drive from Paphos. The hotel is quite a bit out of the way so to get around it is better to hire a car.
It's a very quiet town containing only a few hotels, villas, a crazy golf course and one street...

Paphian Bay Hotel Paphos
Advantages: Everything!!
Disadvantages: nothing
...I stayed at this hotel for one week in July 2005. It was brilliant. The hotel looked classy from the inside and out, and was only a short way from the shops and restaurants in Paphos.
Check In: I arrived at this hotel with 2 other family members, it was night time and we were all feeling tired and stressed. The check in to the hotel was quick, even though there was only one receptionist there. We quickly found our room on the bottom floor of the hotel, just a little way down the corridor. What we thought was the bottom floor was actually not though, as we found out, you had to go downstairs to get to the pool and the other facilities.
Room: The rooms were lovely and spacious, with two big beds and large bathroom. In the bedroom there was a kettle, and everything else for making tea. The milk, coffee, sugar and teabags were...
