Montserrat in an extensive and very popular series of walking maps from Editorial Alpina covering the Pyrenees, Catalonia and other selected hiking areas in Spain, including Picos de Europa, Sierra Nevada and parts of Andalucía, Majorca, etc. Scales vary from 1:50,000 to 1:10,000, with the majority of the titles at 1:25,000. The maps have contours, usually at 20m or 10m intervals, with additional hill shading and spot heights. An overprint highlights hiking trails, long-distance footpaths, campsites, mountain huts, refuges, etc. Many maps also show climbing sites, potholing caves, mountain bike routes, equestrian and ski centres. All the latest editions have a UTM grid, plus margin ticks for latitude and longitude at intervals of 1'. Map legend in most titles includes English. Each title has a separate booklet with general information on the area, descriptions of selected hiking routes, a list of accommodation with addresses, etc. In several titles the booklet now includes English. In this title: Contours at 20m intervals, relief shading and altitude colouring. UTM grid and 1' margin ticks. In addition to footpaths, the overprint shows climbing and potholing sites, mountain bike routes, alpine and cross-country skiing areas, various types of accommodation (hotels, youth hostels, campsites, refuges, mountain huts), information centres, places of interest, locations of petrol stations in the local villages and on access roads, etc. Map legend and the booklet with descriptions of the area and various routes include English.

...We have travelled to the Vendee region of France several times and we had heard about The Grand Parc at Puy du Fou but it is billed as a Medieval Theme Park and it really didn't appeal to me! However having "done" many of the attractions in the area and faced with another day of dodgy weather (we were very unlucky in 2008) we decided to give it a go.
The tickets were about 25 euroes...
Advantages: Great family holiday, perfect for kids, lovely natural setting, plenty to do Disadvantages: Lodges can be shabby, you will wear yourself out with all the activity!
...review covers the Center Parcs at Whinfell Forest in Cumbria. There are three other UK Center Parcs villages at Longleat Forest in Wiltshire, Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, and Elveden Forest in Suffolk, but I haven't visited those and cannot comment on them.
We had never been to Center Parcs before writing this review and didn't know what to expect. However, there's an advert running on TV...

...La Rochelle in the Charente-Maritime area of France is a port frequented by cruise ships who dock at the industrial harbour which is quite a distance from the town. At the beginning of June I was lucky enough to visit this French town on a cruise. Many years ago we had camped nearby but had never found time to visit so I was looking forward to having a look around.
