For the Country in the City - Pollok Country Park

...Would you be surprised to learn that Glasgow has over 70 parks within its city boundaries? It's not known affectionately as "Dear Green Place" for nothing. One of the largest parks is Pollok Country Park. Situated in the southside of the city, just three miles from the city centre, it was voted Best Park in Britain in 2007 and then went on to be crowned Europe's Best Park in 2008. It's a large park at over 360 acres, so even when the sun is splitting the sky (which does happen in Glasgow, you know!), it never feels crowded and you can always find a wee quiet spot for yourself. Where is it and how do we get there? It's on Pollokshaws Road, postcode G43 1AT, if you have SatNav, or take junction 1 or 2 from the M77 and follow the signs for the Burrell Collection. Brean Leisure Park - Fun City

Advantages: Reasonable costs
Disadvantages: A lot of steps so unsuitable for wheelchair users in places

...The Bosque de Chapultepec, also known as Chapultepec Park is a 1600 acre expanse of green space to one side of Mexico City Centre, which has been a public park since the 16th Century, and remains one of the largest in the world. Within its gates there are many different things to see and do, and I have whiled away many a weekend here. LOCATION The park is located on the outskirts of the city, to the west of the main attractions such as the Zócalo. I have walked from there to here, and it took over an hour, so is not recommended (the route, along Reforma, is not too interesting). Wollaton Park - Amazing retreat from the city!

...Wollaton Park comprises of over 500 acres, all set just minutes from Nottingham city centre - a complete surprise! The Grade 1 listed building, Wollaton Hall, set in the park, was completed in 1588. Now, visitors are welcome to visit the hall and park, and many do so each year. On entering the park, it is difficult to imagine that it is located right in the middle of such a busy, bustling city. It is a peaceful oasis, where you can stroll around the lush gardens, or look around the hall. Utah’s glorious bottom.

Advantages: scenic highways, national parks
Disadvantages: Nothing.

...The southern area of Utah is made up of impossibly scenic rock country . It is gorgeous and has a WOW factor of 10. This section of our road trip was possibly the most outstanding as far as scenery went but, we saw so many exhilarating sights on our Southwest adventure that it is too hard to say which was the best. This was definitely up there anyway. Our route took us from Las Vegas, Nevada through to Moab via Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks and then onto Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. We followed the Scenic Highways when we could and these routes don't get designated Scenic Highways for nothing. We saw such a diverse range of scenery on this drive that it never got monotonous or heaven forbid ... boring. We had two overnight stops on the way to Moab from Las Vegas ... one at La Verkin and one near Panguitch...

The weirdest landscape on Earth?

Advantages: Breath-taking scenery
Disadvantages: Poor local accommodation and far out!

..., not really. Its not a true geological canyon, instead it is a gigantic eroded escarpment of the 'Paunsaugunt Plateau'. Whilst the Grand Canyon (a few hundred miles south) is just an almighty crack in the Arizona desert, this is a larger hole with lots of decorative geology. Its scale, beauty and relative quiet compared to the Grand Canyon makes it infinately better. Where? -------------- Bryce is extremely remote. It is set in the middle of Utah - in other words, not really near anywhere else!! Utah is a massive state which, other than Salt Lake City up north and a few mormon towns, doesnt have many other large connerbations. Hovever, Bryce is close to Zion National Park (which I will save for another review one day) and a 4-5 hour drive from Las Vegas, in Nevada. ...I have lived near Wythenshawe park all my life and it?s somewhere I have been many, many times. It is an ideal place for many things and for me it is great for walking the dogs in. I shall give a little bit of information of Wythenshawe park and my personal opinion on it. The location: Wythenshawe park is fairly big and located in Baguley. The park has the long and very busy, main road named Altrincham road on one side of it and the M56 motorway running past it on one side. The park is easily reached from various points and is not that far from Manchester airport either or other surrounding areas such as Altrincham, woodhouse park or even Manchester city centre itself.
