Kona Cowan Frame Review. Light, strong and lovely to ride.
Advantages: Excellent lightweight and bomb-proof frame. Strong durable components.
Disadvantages: Slightly pricey with mid-range components.
...In 2006 I purchased a 2005 Kona cowan frame that i could custom build. This review is based on my experience on using the frame rather than the full bike supplied by Kona. Despite this I can comment on the specification and value for money of the full bike. The best feature of this bike is certainly the frame, retailing at around £499 alone. The components on this bike are chosen based on there performance as jump bike components. Taking into account what this bike will be used for, all the components are strong and durable. The more you pay for bike components, the lighter and more efficient they become without sacrificing any strength. The components on this bike are fairly average when compared to the quality of the frame. Therefore I think the bike is a touch over priced at £1000 rrp, but certainly worth the money. The frame itself...

Parkinson - The King
Advantages: Informative and enjoyable
Disadvantages: Perhaps not enough from other countries
...The standard of tv chat shows can only be measured against one - Parkinson. There is no doubt that chat shows in general have been 'dumbed down' like the rest of tv. Its only when you see and hear Parky perform that realise this. Why Oh Why does it take the bringing back of Parky to prove this. He listens, prompts, laughs and generally put anyone at ease resulting in views and opinions that no one else gets anywhere near with these guests.
Where are the young ones in this profession ? Surely there must be someone else that can do this without lowering the tone !...

Is Parkinson past it
Advantages: big names in entertainment
Disadvantages: lost the appeal that it used to have.
...Parkinson seems to have lost much of it's appeal and seems to be over rated. Okay so he was the king of chat shows many years ago but it seems that the passing of time has dulled his personality and style. Yes, he can still pull in the big names but the time he gives these people seems to be getting shorter and shorter. He tends to interupt them quite alot too which is quite annoying as the whole point of the show is to get their opinions and mermories etc. He isn't in touch with the world any more and this shows on screen. I think the stars that agree to appear on the show remember how good it used to be and assume it's just as good. Sadly this is not the case. It's lost that sparkle that used to make it stand out from the rest and is no longer something to look forward to. It's gone from being a great programme to something...

Michael J Fox fight with Parkinson's Disease.
Advantages: Compelling and interesting story
Disadvantages: None
...but to enlighten the world about Parkinson?s Disease of which he has been a sufferer for many years.
He was originally diagnosed with it way back in November 1990. This he refused to accept, as he was barely 30 at the time, believing with some justification that this disease only affected those in the community over 50.
However the shakes in his left hand continue, so he saw another specialist in October 1991, who agreed with the original diagnosis.
This novel tells us about all his highs and lows, in both his acting career but dealing with his illness. How he choose to control it by drugs and carry on acting without telling anyone outside his family and his closest friends. And finally how the illness became worse and despite a very successful TV series ?Spin City? he decided in November 1998 to tell the world his story. In...

Doesn't live up to expectations
Advantages: Plenty info on the really famous stars, some humour
Disadvantages: His life story pre 1971 is not that interesting
...Michael Parkinson, he is one of the most famous talk show hosts in the country & has been a regular on our screens in that capacity since 1971 via the BBC, ABC in Australia & ITV. He has interviewed the most interesting people in the world, film stars, music stars, sportsmen & women & politicians.
He?s had the edge over the majority of the other talk show hosts over the years such as Michael Aspel, Russell Harty & Terry Wogan but in recent years has lost his younger audience to Jonathan Ross.
His lists of guests over the years is mighty impressive, Parky as he is affectionately known, hardly ever interviewed ?B? class celebrities, he stuck with the biggest names in the business such as;
Alan Alda, Muhammad Ali, Woody Allen, Julie Andrews, Fred Astaire, David & Richard Attenborough, Warren Beatty, Tony Bennett, Jack Benny, George...

Review of Parky: My Autobiography - Michael Parkinson

Meet the Man who has met everyone!
Advantages: fascinating read
Disadvantages: none
...I know that he's not everyone's cup of tea, but I have always enjoyed watching Michael Parkinson interview his guests on his talk show over the years. I particularly enjoyed his last series on ITV and was sad to discover that he was hanging up his microphone and there were to be no more. When I spotted his autobiography on Amazon it went straight on my wish list and luckily, Santa very kindly delivered it on Christmas Day!
I always prefer autobiographies to biographies because I am much more interested in what a person has to say about themselves, even if it is with the aid of a ghost writer. I should be very surprised if Michael Parkinson needde to use one of these considering his journalist background, and in fact, one of the things I really liked about this book was that I could almost hear him speaking in that well known Yorkshire...

Parky Reveals All!
Advantages: Very interesting and packed full of famous people
Disadvantages: None really
...Michael Parkinson was born in 1935 or Melbourne Parkinson if his father had been allowed to have his way. Melbourne as England had just won the Cricket test match there! He was born in a pit village in Cudworth in South Yorkshire to a father who worked down the mines and a doting mother. Michael tells us some great details of how his family came to be living in Yorkshire when his Grandmother had originally been born in Oxford.
Michael talks about how he grew up on Chaplain, Albert and Costello and a love for the theatre. He says that every year for a birthday treat for his mother they would go to the theatre in Barnsley and sit in
He grew up with a love of cricket thanks to his father and he would spend all of his spare time being taught how to play correctly by his father who always hoped his son would one day play...

Cia Dirty Dozen: Parkinson Interviews Robbo 2000.
Advantages: Sometimes it's good to talk
Disadvantages: Parky won't stop calling me now - he thinks we're friends
...So I don't know if you saw it, but I went on Parkinson the other week. I've never really rated that guy as highly as everyone else does, but my agent seemed to think that it might get me some good exposure and I'd get a whole bunch more Ciao community points, so I said what the hell, I can go to a cool party tomorrow instead, and agreed to go on the show if it made the old codger happy.
So I get to the studio and meet Parky before the show and we talk about what's going to happen and I tell Parky that I want to spice up the show by doing some crazy shit like getting up out of my chair (!) and running around the studio a bit, like a loony. Parky tells me that this is not permitted: only Billy Connolly and Robbie Williams are allowed to do wacky shit like that, he says, and points to the PAs of said celebrities, who are sat in...

A top interviewer
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...I watched this programme quite often and found it to be rather entertaining, Michael Parkinson is the presenter, who interviews famous people from around the world, this programme has been going on for a while now and over the years he has interviewed so many stars from Mohammed Ali to Paul McCartney.
The interviews are always conducted in a lively manner, and the person being interviews always seems to be interesting, it’s a formal chat but interesting. The guests are not people, but people well known, the presenter is so well respected and always looks at ease when he is presenting the show.
The shows flows so smoothly, Parkinson is always in control, always knowing what to ask, not being overwhelmed by the guest. Last week he had George Best on, and he was speaking about his problems with drink, it was so sad...

PARKY STILL ON TOP
Advantages: Intelligent, informative chat
Disadvantages: It's not long enough
...The art of hosting a chat show should not be underestimated. Over the years many have tried and many have failed. Plenty of confident TV presenters, well versed in communicating on a variety of mediums have floundered when they have tried to engage celebrities in they one to one interview. A good example Danny Baker, a slick and effective Radio presenter was given a chat show by the BBC and it was a disaster quickly to be cancelled. The one name that has dominated the British chat show world for almost 30 years is Michael Parkinson and his show simply named Parkinson is still on BBC prime time on Saturday night. Why has he succeeded where many others have failed?
CHAT SHOWS
I think the chat show host faces many problems, the first and most obvious is that they need to be affable and put their guests at ease. Many accomplished...
