Heaton Park, Prestwich, Lancashire

Advantages: Plenty to see and do for not much money, especially as the entrace to Heaton Hall is free of charge.
Disadvantages: Preferably, need to visit on a fine day.

...Heaton Park is situated near to junction 18 of the M60 near Prestwich, Manchester; and is approximately 20 minutes from Manchester City Centre. Heaton Park is set in approximately 650 acres of landscaped parkland, including woodlands and lots of open green space, which is Grade II by the English Heritage. In addition, there are nine listed buildings within the grounds of Heaton Park, including the magnificent neo-classical Heaton Hall Grade I listed country house, which has beautifully restored 18th century interiors – well worth a visit, especially as admission is free of charge, but note, the mansion is only open from Thursday through Sundays, and Bank Holidays. The family of the Earl of Wilton left Heaton Park to the City of Manchester in 1901. It was turned into a municipal park (one of the largest of its kind in Europe...

Lancashire Nights

Advantages: Good views, reasonable price, nice staff
Disadvantages: Noisy rooms, uncomfortable bed

...of breakfast for two. We arrived around midday, parked up and took a few moments to admire the stunning views from this high vantage point. We then went inside and within a few minutes were checked in and directed to our room on the first floor. Upon opening the door, first impressions were quite good. The room was spacious, the furniture was modern and we had an up to date, albeit small flat screen TV. Although we had come up a flight of stairs, the hotel is built on a slope so the room had French windows that opened onto a small, grassed area, although I won't call it a veranda as there was no outside seating, it would have been a bit too chilly to sit out anyway. We had some tea and coffee making facilities in the room, but no bottled water and only a couple of teabags and coffee sachets and we would have liked more. The bathroom was...

The side of the river is sometimes a little TOO close !!

Advantages: Lovely friendly little site
Disadvantages: Can be cut off by the tides

...Riverside Caravan Park is a mixture of touring and static caravans - both private and to hire - that is situated on the Lune Estuary between Morecambe and Lancaster in Lancashire. I have used this site - both with a tourer and hiring a static - for over fifteen years. The owners - Linda and Allan Proctor, work hard to keep the site clean and attractive. There are still peopl with their touring caravans on the site that used it when we started using it fifteen years ago - which must be a good endorsement for the site. The season for the site is - touring caravans open from March till the end of October, and static caravans for hire and privately owned holiday homes open 11 months of the year. An intersting ( and sometimes inconvenient) feature of this site, is that it can be cut off by the tide. The road is covered...

Happy Days Are Here Again

Advantages: A lovely old fashioned park with lots of fun and attractions for kids of all ages.
Disadvantages: None

...Morecambe is rather a sad little town in Northern England that is trying desperately to regain some of its past popularity in the tourist industry. One part of Morecambe that has kept its charm throughout the rise and fall of this northern seaside town is the lovely little Happy Mount Park, situated at the eastern end of Morecambe's Promenade. Happy Mount Park was originally created in the 1920s as a traditional urban park. Over the years there have been a variety of unusual attractions such as wild animals (with, believe it or not, a bear!) and a boating waterway. I have been a visitor to the park over the last fifty years and seen many changes, I used to love the illuminations that were held their up to the 1980's, I was less impressed with the short time that the park was turned into Crinkly Bottom by Noel Edmunds in...

A Day Out With Merlin and King Arthur!

Advantages: Great theme, fun day, something for everyone.
Disadvantages: Expensive, no reduction in price for children

...I think Camelot is exactly what it says it is - a THEME park, with the theme being centred around King Arthur and the knights of the round table. So many places call themselves theme parks but aren't, so it's nice to visit one that is. From the minute you are welcomed through the gates by King Arthur and his royal subjects (all played by actors who clearly enjoy their work and are enthusiastic about it) you are swept up in a world of mythical beasts, valiant knights and magical spells. OK - so it's designed for kids, but big kids can't fail to enjoy it either! There are plenty of rides for children of all ages, from a section for really small children with little trains and swinging galleon ships, right up to the white knuckle rides including 'Knightmare' - a rollercoaster for the brave which includes a section called the 'psycho...

Great day out

Advantages: Lots of rides.
Disadvantages: Tiring day out.

...After hearing about the new ride a Camelot my friends and I decided to go this weekend and see what it was like. For those few who do not know what Camelot is I will give you a very brief overview: Camelot is a great theme park located near Chorley in Lancashire (North West England). It is a themed amusement park (a land of magic and great knights). They have rides for everyone from toddler to parents as well as indoor activities and a working farm. It is close to the M61 (leave at Junction 8) and is signposted, so easy to find. We got to Camelot for 10am (opening time), giving us plenty of time to go on all of the rides. It was free to park and cost £18 each to enter. The park is separated into 5 different sections: Land of the Brave, Merlins Playland, King?s Realm, Knight?s Valley, and Squire Bumpkins Friendly Park. We...

Go Wild in the country - it won't be a Boar !!

Advantages: A great day out for kids and adults alike
Disadvantages: A little hilly in parts

... Bowland Wild Boar Park We often travel around the Forest of Bowland we are very lucky that it is on our doorstep and it is a really beautiful location. On our trips we had often spotted a brown leisure travel sign for 'Wild Boar Park', so when we had my seven year old grandson staying with us we thought that we'd go and check it out - and how pleased were we?? The park is about two miles from the lovely little village of Chipping, in the Forest of Bowland (which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty); it is just ten miles from Preston and eight miles from Clitheroe. Our party on the day of the visit was one pensioner, one adult, one 12 year old and one 7 year old and I can say with complete honesty that every one of that party had a wonderful and enjoyable day. Let me try and tell you all about the park so...

Our Marina Home from Home

Advantages: Peaceful, tranquil, beautiful and very friendly
Disadvantages: Can be expensive

...Marina Caravan Park Conder Green Nr Lancaster Lancashire LA2 0BP Telephone: 01524 751787 Fax: 01524 751436 Email: sales@southlakelandparks.co.uk In Conclusion As a VERY happy owner who spends most of the year here I would really recommend the park - it is small and friendly and you are always sure of a warm welcome. One main attraction is that there are no touring caravans and the homes cannot be subletted so there are no strangers on the park - just friends. Summary: we love it !!...

Great holiday with the family.

Advantages: Fun, plenty to do, great resort.
Disadvantages: It rained :-(

...I have stayed over night at Ocean Edge Caravan Park with my brother and his family. When they come north they usually stay in a caravan or holiday lodge or cottage, because now that he has kids there just isn't enough room for them all in our house. Ocean Edge Leisure Park is a caravan park on the coast of Morecambe Bay in the historical Heysham Village. The park is a short drive from Morecambe which has supermarkets and shops as well as tourist attractions for the family. The holiday park also had many facilities to keep us all occupied including: An arcade which entertained both us and the kids, An indoor soft play area which my two nieces absolutely love and spent most days in there, a swimming pool, A family lounge which was great for early evening, a beer garden which was great for the adults while the kids played in the outdoor...
