Wollaton Park - Amazing retreat from the city!
Advantages: Quiet, beautiful scenery, free entry, deer
Disadvantages: -
...Wollaton Park comprises of over 500 acres, all set just minutes from Nottingham city centre - a complete surprise! The Grade 1 listed building, Wollaton Hall, set in the park, was completed in 1588. Now, visitors are welcome to visit the hall and park, and many do so each year.
On entering the park, it is difficult to imagine that it is located right in the middle of such a busy, bustling city. It is a peaceful oasis, where you can stroll around the lush gardens, or look around the hall. Entrance is free to both the gardens, house and the museums, although there is a car parking charge of £2 - however, this is very little to enjoy a wonderful day out.
On a summers day, it is common to find people spread across the grounds, enjoying the sunshine. Many take picnics, play games, or just go for a stroll around the scenic area. Plus, there...

Victoria Centre Nottingham
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...Nottingham has two large shopping centres, the Broadmarsh Centre and the Victoria Centre, situated at opposite ends of the city centre .The Victoria Centre is the bigger of the two, containing 120 shops (not counting all the various stalls in the market area.)
Getting there is easy - if you drive, there's parking for over 2700 cars . If you don't drive, don't worry - almost all the Nottingham City Transport buses stop either directly outside the Victoria Centre, or within a few minutes walk of it . Other bus companies from slightly further afield, such as Trent Barton , terminate at the local coach station within the centre . If you're walking, the centre is signposted from various points in the city centre, and at the end of the day when you're weighed down with shopping, there are 2 taxi ranks directly outside the main entrance...

Super sleeping in good location
Advantages: best beds ever, location, cleanliness
Disadvantages: price of food and drink, no free Internet
...We have had to stay in Nottingham at least once a month over quite a long period, and after trying a number of city centre hotels made the Park Plaza our automatic choice.
Location
The hotel is on Maid Marian Way, just minutes from Nottingham Castle, Market Square and Broad Marsh shopping centre. Victoria shopping centre and the bus and train stations are not too far away. It is possible to book valet parking at the hotel, but this is expensive. The NCP car parks nearby are also expensive. The hotel used to provide a discount for NCP parking, but unfortunately this is no longer available. One possible get-around is to leave the car at one of the park and ride sites (where it can be left for several days if required) and take the tram to Market Square.
Comfort
The wonderfully comfortable beds, which more than...

Serenity In A City
Advantages: Cheap, beautiful location
Disadvantages: Disabled access, could do with better facilities
...the Natural History Museum, Wollaton Park is also home to Nottingham's Industrial Museum. The exact age of the building is not known, although clues point to the 1740s. The upper floor is likely to have been the servant's quarters while the ground floor would have housed the stables, brewhouse and dairy. Up until as recently as 1979 the stables were used for Nottingham's police horses but when they moved out, the area was converted into a small refreshment area.
The Industrial Museum itself has been open to the public since 1971 and is home to several fascinating machines, many of them steeped in Nottingham history. There is a noticeable oily smell of industry throughout the museum where a cigarette vendor and a clocking in machine, both from the early 20th century, can be viewed.
It is a little known fact (well I didn't know!) that the idea...

Jurys Inn Nottingham
Advantages: Economical, clean, modern, good value for money
Disadvantages: No hotel car park
...LOCATION
Jurys Inn Nottingham is located between bridge over the river and a water channel on the London Road , southeast of the city centre, close to the railway station and within a two-minute walk of the tramway system.
First Impression
On arrival to the Jurys Inn in Nottingham city centre, me and my partner were greeted by a modern, quite impressive looking, 8-floors high building. Although the building looks a little unfinished, the reception area looked spotless and shiny marble flooring as well as dimmed lightning and colour scheme added to a very glamorous look. The receptionist welcomed us and checked us in in a fairly informal manner. Unfortunately, we were not given any directions on how to get to our room, where the hotel facilities are or any restaurant/bar opening times.

Nottingham - The Small Apple
Advantages: Well Established
Disadvantages: Crime
...I used to live in Nottingham myself, on Mapperley Road just outside the city centre! It's actually classed as Mapperley Park the area although its around five to ten minutes from the city itself! I moved there with an X - girlfriend in October 2003, as she was studying physchology at Nottingham Univertsity. Ok, people told me I was mad and it was a crazy place to go especially at the young age of 18. I ignored them and hopped on the train and started living in a shared house near to Nottingham uni, on Derby Road. It was one of those you know where you don't plan it out and just be spontaneous and do it, everything just seemed to work out quickly though I was in a house straight away, got a job within a month of being there. Which in all fairness was fairly easy considering there are approx. 28 Recruitment Agencies there.

All the Nottingham news.
Advantages: Good local newspaper.
Disadvantages: None.
...If you live in or around Nottingham then you will certainly be aware of the Nottingham Evening Post.
Published six days of the week this really is the main local newspaper for this area. The paper costs 29p (home delivered copies are 24p) and is published in a tabloid format. There is some colour in the paper but it is primarily a traditional black and white paper.
The paper has an excellent news reporting team and is able to cover almost any story that is happening in the area. The paper is also very keen on photographs and has a small army of available photographers all around the county, that are able to attend local events. A lot of these photographers are freelance, but this does allow the paper to cover a wide area without having the overheads of a large pool of staff.
Each day the paper has a number of specialist...

Nottingham Trent University
Advantages: Great Uni. Fact!
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!
...So, having just finished at Nottingham Trent University it made perfect sense to make this brief review on the place...trust me if I reviewed every aspect of life here that I've experienced it would equate to the length of War & Peace!
Trent is officially the leading "new" university in the country and is predominantly a city-based campus, with two other campuses located at Clifton (about 5 miles south of the city) and Brackenhurst (a very rural campus based to the north-east). I spend three years there and had an awesome time.
In my first year I was based at the Simpsons Halls of Residence, which are in the Lenton area of Nottingham. Although not the nicest area of the city, the halls were certainly some of the best. Having had coursemates and friends who were located at other halls such as Hampden and Sandby which are much closer...

The Welbeck Hotel, Nottingham
Advantages: Very Central Location, Good Value For Money
Disadvantages: 10am Checkout
...When I needed to find some cheap Hotel accommodation in Nottingham City Centre a couple of Weeks ago, the Internet was the logical place to start my search. I tried the usual chains including Travelodge, but since my stay was less than one week away I quickly found that I was struggling.
Eventually I stumbled upon the Welbeck Hotel. Location wise it seemed perfect, right in the centre of the City, and price wise it was well within my budget too, and so I confirmed my Online booking.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Well to be honest the first thing that impressed me was the location. It was less than five minutes walk from the Lace Market, and well within walking distance of all of the other Shops and Attractions.
The next thing that appealed to me was the design of the building itself. It is quite a large, modern looking, Hotel on five...
