Passat 1.8t 20v Sport.

Advantages: Big boot, Good motorway cruise missile, suprised in how cheap parts are.
Disadvantages: A bit thirsty, ride quality a bit soft. keep grouding on speed humps.

...is quite good on the motorway, very quiet, smooth but it gets a bit wishy washy on the back roads. I do find that on the sport models the ride hight is low and i am forever scraping over speed humps and kerbs causing a bit of damage to the nappy under the engine which does come loose if you don't keep an eye on it, and is a part of the cars aerodynamics. So make sure it's got one before you buy. Also check the suspension bushes on high mileage one's this can be expensive and there is a lot of them on the passat. The engine is a 1.8, 20 valve, Turbo charged unit which develops around 150bhp, its the same engine the Audi TT which runs at 225bhp. So the engine isn't under to much stress. The power is good, but i do find that it needs a bit of reving to get it goin...

passat 1.8t 20v love this car hate petrol prices

Advantages: fast, big, good looking list goes on.
Disadvantages: fuel consumption, rear suspension, seats, light steering.

...Why did I sell this car! I bought a passat because I needed a bigger car. I have always been into volkswagons so I know alot about the engines e.t.c. I started out by looking at the tdi to be sensible but saw a 1.8 20v on ebay which I payed £2200 for. My first suprise was how quick the car was, I knew it was 1.8 turbo but its a big car (bigger than some parking spaces). The fist few days i was driving it i was like a loony, how could a car this big go this fast. I then proceeded to take all my freinds out in it who were equally amazed. This car would give my golf gti a run for its money. After zooming the car around i realised i was going to the petrol station a hell of a lot, but i didn't mind cos i felt great when i was driving. You know the feeling you get when you are driving around in a nice car you are proud of...

VW PASSAT 20V TURBO SPORT (2nd Hand Purchase)

Advantages: BUILD QUALITY, RELIABILITY,VALUE FOR MONEY
Disadvantages: Near side lower ball joints don't last due to the state of our AMAZING ROADS

...BEST CAR THAT I HAVE OWNED I bought my VW Passat 20v Turbo Sport some 2 +years ago 2nd hand , the car was originally bought by a leasing company from new. Fully dealer serviced and looked after, the person that ordered it had all the usual extras fitted , so I benefited from their good taste without being out of pocket!! AMAZING PERFORMANCE! EXCELLENT ROAD HOLDING, but only with NEW REAR SHOCKS FITTED as they wear out gradually and you don't notice this until they are renewed. TURBO is constantly ON as is the AIR CON and so usually NEVER ANY PROBLEMS. Power steering is precise , I was recommended to have Brigestone Turanza ER300's, this really improved the front end handling and ride, road noise ETC. (£50 a corner) DON'T BUY BUDGET TYRES AS THEY ARE A FALSE ECONOMY, THEY DON'T LAST and CAUSE BAD HANDLING. I generally...

Audi A4 1.8T S Line 2004

Advantages: Driveability, Good Looks.
Disadvantages: Common Faults (But are not expensive to fix)

...Just upgraded to the Audi A4 1.8T S Line a few weeks ago from my Audi Cab 2.6 V6. I thought I was going to miss the power of the V6, how wrong i was!. The 1.8T with 190bhp is a quick machine and once the turbo kicks in you have hot hatch power in a saloon. These cars are ripe for tuning by way of ECU remapping, air filters, diverter valves and a number of other products which will increase BHP and torque. The S Line trim with the extra body deeper grill, spoiler, wide arches make the car look sporty without going over the top. On the interior the aluminum trimmings along with the half leather sports seat are classy and comfortable for long journeys. The suspension is stiff but solid on country road. Some things that go wrong in this model although these may have been rectified in the 2004 onward models are ignition coil...

New Model A4 1.8T

Advantages: Looks, performance, price
Disadvantages: ummm, nope, still can't think of any

...Thought it was time for an update seeing as I've had the car for over 6 months... I'd always had a thing about Audis, I'd love an S6 but the budget won't stretch, so the A4 was an obvious choice. Looking at the range I had the choice of the entry-level 2.0 of the 1.8T in either 2 wheel drive or Quattro. Comparing the performance the 2.0 pushes out 130bhp with the 1.8T raising this to 150bhp, simple choice then. Comparing this with the 3 series, the 318 offers only 112bhp, with the 320 jumping upto 170bhp, though the new model increases capacity to 2.3 litres. After test driving both variants I decided on the 2 wheel drive, though the brochure gives the same 8.4sec 0-60 time, the 2 wheel drive seems quicker, probably as the Quattro has the power being put out to all 4 wheels. I must say though that the Quattro definitely has the edge...

Buying a USED A3 1.8T

Advantages: Reliability, quality of build, performance
Disadvantages: Costly servicing, fuel economy low if pushed

...In March of 2004 I purchased a three year old, Y-reg Audi A3 1.8 Turbo-sport three door. The first thing that struck me with this car was the build quality and feeling of being in a very solid car. Despite being a smaller-sized hatch, this car has a surprisingly large amount of front space and a boot that could swallow whole families. Yes, the rear seats do have less leg room than you would expect in a car of this size, but the front sports seats cause this. In the non-sport model, the standard seats do allow for exra legs in the rear. The boot can comfortably hold three sets of golf clubs and if I collapse one side of the 2/3 split rear seats, six can easliy be squeezed in. The interior trim is fantastic, despite being three years old, this car doesn't possess a single rattle or knock from any corner or orifice. My model has...

Superb Saloon Car

Advantages: Great Engine, Great Body, Great Car
Disadvantages: Slightly soft suspension.

...Its with great regret that I prepare to say goodbye to my Passat 1.8T Sport. I chose it as a company car two years ago when my work required me to do endless long journeys, and it was perfect for that job. VW based the Passat on the same platform as the group's Audi A4 and A6. The A4 is slightly smaller than the Passat and the A6 slightly larger, but both are more expensive than the Passat. Some may prefer the Audi badge, but in terms of value for money, the VW is a clear winner. For me the 1.8T engine is the best feature of this car. The Passat version produces 150bhp, though the same engine is easily tweaked to 180 or even 225bhp in the Audi TT, so it clearly isn't performing under too much stress in the Passat. More importantly it produces torque across its entire rev range so the engine doesn't need to be thrashed to get...

Review of Volkswagen Passat 1.8T 20V

My first car, and more than satisfied.

Advantages: Fantastic Engine, Build Quality, Comfort, Space.
Disadvantages: Overly Soft Suspension, Not as fun to drive as rivals (Mondeo)

...My car is a 2000 'W' Reg VW Passat 1.8T Sport Saloon in Dragon Green. This car is absolutely fantastic. I am 6ft 4 and have a really comfy driving position, also when i have my seat in position there is still a vast amount of space behind. The engine remarkable. This is my first car and i don't have any other experience driving other cars but one thing is for sure, the engine is extremely powerful. You get power right through the rev range, and you really feel the turbo kick in at 2,000 rpm. I get over 30mpg even when i thrash it so its quite economical as well. The interior is the best thing about this car. The build quality is miles better than anything else similar cars have to offer. You also get plenty of toys. The climate control is great although you only really get extremely cold or too hot no in between. It also has...

Rover 75 1.8T Connoisseur 4dr LPG dual fuel

Advantages: Great car at rock bottom price, luxurious very cheap to run- 1992 fuel prices!
Disadvantages: Expensive tyres,

...I have owned a Rover 75 1.8T Conneseur, 2005 (54 plate) since 2006. I bought it for £7000 with 10,000 miles on the clock. (A saving of £16,000 against new with the extras this one has on it. It loads of extras like the 17" alloys, climate control, rear parking sensors, auto dimming mirror, rain sensors etc, trip computer and information computer. It even tells you when the brakes are worn or the screen wash is empty. I had mine coverted to an LPG fuel car with a toroidal tank in the spare wheel well. I get 34 mpg with it combined but pay about 2/5's the price. Made my money back after 1 year. Car is a great drive, plenty of power. Only problem has been the petrol fuel filter undoing itself, common problem. Really comfy car, I can't see how you can go wrong with one of these at the price. They were overpriced originally by about £3000-4000....

Review of Rover 75 1.8T

You have to drive this car

Advantages: Engine is FANTASTIC. You MUST drive it to believe it.
Disadvantages: Drinks petrol like it's gone out of fashion. Bad Jack point for tyre change.

...I have for the past week had the pleasure of test driving this car. The engine on this thing is phenomenal. 150 bhp. The acceleration is awesome and the top speed at 137 mph is frightening. If you are weighing up having the 2.0 litre SE with a few extras or the 1.8T with no extras I would throughly recommend having no extras and getting a car that will make you smile every time you get in it. The only problem is that becasuse it is very difficult not to step on the throttle you may only get 300 miles out of a tank of petrol (62 litres) Good basic spec with the SE. Single CD, Centre Armrest, Climate Control, Alloys. ONE THING TO BE CAREFULL OF WHEN YOU JACK IT UP TO CHANGE THE TYRE PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU LOCATE IT IN THE CORRECT PLACE ( 2 RIBS 10 INCHES IN FROM THE SIDE DOOR). I DIDN'T BECAUSE IT WAS DARK AND IT FELL OFF...
