The chances are that you will be landing at either the new airport or the older (but impressively) refurbished one in Bangkok. From the latter it is a two hour taxi ride to Pattaya. This includes two obligatory stops: one for the driver to refuel the car and another for him to suddenly dash off for a piss in a ditch. One of my favourite hotels in Pattaya

Advantages: Palm trees, close to the beach and comfortable
Disadvantages: Can be a bit busy

...This is one of those hotels where, the longer you stay, the longer you want to stay. I stayed here in May 05. The pool and facilities are second to none and you meet a wide variety of people. It is worth getting up a bit early to grab a sun lounger but you will find yourself in the pool more than on it. The food was gorgeous and room service is extremly quick. It is in an ideal location (close enough to walking street but far enough from it if you wish to avoid it), there is a shopping centre less than three minutes away with everything you need and great bargains. It will take you about 2 minutes to get to the beach and to other restaurants. There is a great restaurant across the street which hosts live traditional thai dancing! Hooked on Pattaya..!

Advantages: Everything is so cheap, people are great, superb weather all year round!

I'm not the sort of tourist you might associate with Pattaya - in other words, I'm not a 70 year old man wearing socks and sandals, travelling to Thailand for nothing but sex. Its a great value holiday destination and fun for all the family. Why fork out such ridiculous sums of money on Spanish package holidays and then be ripped off even more when you get there with food and drink when Thailand (and Pattaya in particular) is cheap to get to and very cheap to live in. Driving time, Pattaya is approximately 2 hours from Bangkok and the cost of a taxi varies, though you'll have no problem picking one up for 800THB (about £12.00). Pattaya - not meeting our expectations

Advantages: The fast pace, shopping, abundance of activities available, ability to book day-trips
Disadvantages: Sex trade, smell, polluted waters, dirty beach, not safe to go into town alone

...' at dinner. It is uncomfortable and actually quite scary. I wouldn't have wanted to be out there on my own. Please note that Pattaya is not all sex, smell and pollution. If you search hard enough you can find traditional Thailand - a huge gold buddah was just a short walk from our hotel and there are still temples here. But it may be a good idea to stay at the nearby Jomtien beach - a 10 minute songtheow ride. It is a much quieter, cleaner resort than Pattaya and allows you to experience the busy, thrill-seeking pace of Pattaya whilst retreating far enough way to have some breathing space. Day trips are also easy to find in travel centres around central Pattaya - try a day trip to Bangkok or (I would especially recommend) an overnight stay on little island just off Pattaya. Hotel International

Advantages: Location, breakfasts

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

Bangkok on Sea or Family Friendly Fun?

Advantages: Offers something for everyone, cheap
Disadvantages: Not easy on the eye, choose where you stay based on the kind of holiday you want

.... The main area that Pattaya is famous for is ?Walking Street? ? a street littered with bars offering girls galore. We only visited with our daughter once, and all the people shouting ?handsome man? and other cries to get men inside their establishments fell silent when they saw a child. It is all a bit crazy once you get inside the bars but walking past with a young child it is fairly innocuous, although I must stress we did go without her later in the evening on another night when it was less innocuous. However if you want to visit the excellent King Seafood Restaurant in the city, you have to visit Walking Street which is why we were there with our daughter. The Strand Palace Hotel

Advantages: Central location, clean
Disadvantages: Food, rooms

...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too. Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly. My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern. I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower. The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close. The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

...When we decided to make a return trip to Benalmedina we opted to go to the four star Hotel Las Arenas as it was recommended by friends. It is slightly further out just opposite the Castle Bill Bill and when you cross the road it?s a flat walk all the way to the marina which is away from the large hills on which many of the other hotels are located. Reception On arrival check in was swift and at this time we opted to pay for a safety deposit box we were then handed the safe key and card key to room 524 and pointed in the direction of the lifts. On looking round reception it was laid out with tables and chairs and also had a grand piano, a small bar ,toilets and computers with internet access.
