Having been released over a year ago for Xbox 360 users, Gears of War has finally been brought to the PC, which is fantastic news for PC gamers. I paid £17.90 from PlayTrade on www.play.com in January 2009, and you can now find it for £17.99 on that main Play website itself. Considering the RRP for this game and the price most high-street stores charge for this game is £34.99, play.com once again is the best place to buy games.
Gears of War is one of the best games to have hit the Xbox 360, and the same can now be said about the game on the PC. In terms of gameplay, it is the same as the Xbox version, and follows the same storyline, which in iteself is fantastic.

The game itself is amazing... the graphics are good and unlike some of its counterparts the screen image did not make me want to throw up ( I often find this with fast moving games with high graphics)

You can play on two different modes on LS ? the story or the free play mode. The story mode is as I?ve explained earlier with Riley and Vince?s story. With the free play mode, it?s basically what you play on Sims 2.
This game is extremely easy for those who have played Sims 2, as it uses the same format and functions. For those who haven?t played it, you control the Sim?s everyday action. Your Sims must get involve in mundane tasks (like humans), in order to survive longer. So they will be doing chores such as cleaning the toilet, watching telly, painting and cooking.
The adult Sims can have babies, which will grow up into toddlers...
Advantages: Graphically challenging the genre in places. Storyline is well constructed. Disadvantages: Single player mode will only last 6 hours or more, depending on your ability.
...I am a huge fan of the First Person Shooter (FPS) genre, specifically on the PC. Having bought most games in the FPS arena, I can admit my addition now. Call of Duty(COD) have been butted up against the Medal of Honour series for years on PC and consoles. The latest incarnation takes you away from WW2 into Modern Day soldiering. I have not completed the game to date, but have a number of hours gameplay on the PC game. I will "not" post spoilers.
My machine is just about able to hold up on the specifications needed to play the game (listed at foot of review) although the graphics card is good, I am on single core and it would certainly benefit from a duo or quad to make this game fly.
First Impressions
Opening the box, there is a very anorexic manual, which I find reassuring with any PC FPS.

Advantages: Good actor voices, good atmosphere and you do get to solve crimes. Disadvantages: Some changes compared to the book, very repetitive, lacks locations to explore.
...and there is a linear storyline that needs to be revealing slowly. However, the long dialogues meant you are almost watching a film. A lot of sitting in front of the computer and listening to the information, which can be tiresome at times.

Well, with the long dialogues, you hope that the visual side will engage you instead. I have to admit that considering it is a 2006 game, I was not too impress with the graphics. Although it does look good, it did not blow me away compare to the older games such as ?Syberia? (see my review). I find the graphics on the characters were slightly robotic and plain in terms of facial expression and textures. Antoinette is badly made, as she is supposed to be about 25 years old.
