PC world...an Employees view!

Advantages: Huge amount of choice, competitive prices, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Lack of communication with head office, still sales culture.

I am an employee at a PC World store in the Midlands and hope that I can give an unbiased review on some of the good and bad points about PC world and How to respond to any problems you may encounter while you are shopping there. PC World ---- Poor Customer Service World

Advantages: They aren't too expensive
Disadvantages: They have appalling customer service

...My husband brought a computer from PC World just over a year ago now. It cost £399 which seemed like quite a good deal. It came with everything we needed and even had free Norton Spyware thrown in for a year. It was on Windows Vista and had all the latest software on it. We also bought a lot of accessories for it, the printer costing £200, a wireless mouse and keybour, a scanner/photocopier. I'd like to say everything was perfect, we never had any problems and we all lived happilly ever after... but I can't. The day after we installed everything I went to use word for my uni work and found it wouldn't open, in fact none of the microsoft software would open. I used the library instead, not very convienient but oh well and we just used the computer for going on the internet which we did quite a lot seeing as my husbands work requires...

...PC World, the best computer shop ever! Massive choice, great sales staff. OK, stop screaming at me for being a madwoman and read my little story! ~~~ Fabulous Store ~~~ I once worked for PC World, in their Lakeside store. It was fabulous. I was actually there on opening day (read on to find out what I was doing). The store was then privately owned by a polish immigrant called Jan Murray and there were only two branches. These shops were an answer to a prayer for many PC buffs. Opening day was fantastic, extra staff were brought in from the Croydon branch and we were all rushed off our feet. I spent most of the day standing by the front door giving out free burgers! Another colleague spent all day running backwards and forwards to McDonalds to keep me supplied. The customers were happy and there was an amazing amount of return...

...I would not suggest a trip to pc world in basingstoke. Its the worse customer service i have ever known, and think they only make money with first time buyers as you get put off straight after if to use this store. my experience was i went to buy a pc at my local pc world in reading, they didnt have the one i wanted in stock but the chap was helpful and rang a local ish branch to see if they had it as it whoed on the screen they did. he rang them and asked them to get it ready as will be there in 30 mins to buy the pc in basingstoke. so i get there, no one on the shop floor i see the one i want and just want to buy it and get going as whole mission taking a long time and it was getting late. eventually found a staff member who had the stench of cannot be bothered and realy made me feel like i was infringing on her time and being...

PC world of rip-offs

Advantages: Warm on a winters day
Disadvantages: Overpriced, poor staff knowledge, poor levels of stock

...about value pc's on ebuyer which they bought and have been happy with (i gave them my email address to help them out). If you are a novice where computing is concerned avoid PC world, they seem to prey on people's insecurities of computng. Most independant computer shops are much more helpful and will usually build you exactly what you want for a lower price. They offer some services like transfering data from one computer to another and virus scanning. A Technician at a store explained some of the processes to me and made them sound very complicated and with the slightest error could cause huge amounts of damage. They were once again taking advantage of insecurities using computers. I was quoted around £40 to transfer 1.5 GB of data from a desktop to a laptop. At no point did they mention using a 2 GB USB data stick which can be bought...

PC World Norwich. The world of staff rudeness

...I write this opinion based on my own personal experiences with an individual branch of PC World. I recently made a trip to PC World in Norwich, Norfolk, to purchase some home networking cards. It was the first time that I had visited the store. When I arrived, I was quite impressed with the organisation aspects of the store and the quantity and vastness of products available. As I had had a fairly long journey, I was in desperate need of a wee and promptly asked the nearest sales assistant as to the location of the customer toilets. He proudly stated to me that "because we are on a retail park, we do not legally have to provide customers with toilet facilities and it is company policy" Oh the look of glee that filled the young bloke's face when he told me this. PC World everything a superstore should not be

...and went to a small local back street builder gave him the specs and he built me one for £500. So my impressions already of PC World are mixed. I got useful information, but I felt they were a little pricey. This was all 5 years ago. Since then I have expanded in girth as well as in other areas. My computer has grown and my knowledge has grown too. I have bought the odd peripheral from PC World and found the store to have two big faults. I have always had trouble in finding someone on the shop floor with any computing knowledge, and I have found their repair service and their stock levels to be lacking. The only good aspect of using this large superstore is that they will gladly refund items, no argument, if you keep the receipt.
