Personal preference PCMCIA
Review of BT Voyager 1065 Laptop Adapter by
king_david2001
Advantages: More Robust
Disadvantages: Software it comes with
...The PCMCIA card is definetly the one I would choose personally because it is more robust than the USB and if you accidently knock it it isnt going to bend or break where as if you accidently knock the USB wireless adaptor on your machine you may snap or bend the pins on the USB port which may lead to a costly repair or buying a USB hub if you have limited USBs
In all honesty there is no better signal transmission between the two it is all down to personal preference at the end of the day.
My only disliking is this product is made by BT to whom i do not support after other technology problems. Also I have a disliking to the software managment in my opinion can be complecated and why cant you just use the Zero configuration utility built into windows....

Why fi?
Review of Belkin 54g Wireless PCMCIA card by
C_W_Monkey
Advantages: Wi Fi Networking is great
Disadvantages: Belkin aren't, installation isn't
...(if enabled), me and my neighbour can feel secure that we wont be able to see each others files.
However, I don't think this card supports many security features. I think that if my neighbour were a hacker, they'd find it easy to tap into my network. But that doesn't matter, because I don't know any hackers within range of my signal. But this is a downside to the product.
---------------------------
Installation
---------------------------
Getting the card into the computer and the laptop was easy. Just put the PCI card in, put the PCMCIA card in, turn them on.
Here's where the nightmare of networking begins. Firstly, if I remember rightly, Windows does not instinctively recognise the new hardware. You have to install drivers for it.
We had loads of badly labelled CD's come with the cards, we were unsure as to which ones...

Wonderfully Wicked Wi-Fi Wizardry
Review of Belkin 54g Wireless PCMCIA card by
rhys_morgan1
Advantages: Good price - easy installation - online tutorials for the uninitiated!
Disadvantages: May be slightly daunting to people less proficient in IT.
...OK - lets get down to brass tacks. I have a 1mb adsl connection (broadband) feeding my desktop and a company laptop. When I wanted to connect to my company's corporate network, I had to unplug my desktop's adsl connection and plug in my laptop, obviously rendering my desktop with no connectivity. After a few weeks of this I got very bored as I live with a friend, and when I was working from home, he wasn't able to use the internet until I had finished working.
So, using my technical expertise (I work in IT) and some funding from the Boss (taxable telecommunication benefit apparently?!?) I invested in a Belkin Wireless Modem and Integrated Router (acting as an access point) and a PCMCIA Type II Wireless Laptop card.
The theory behind this is that the dekstop will have a wired connection - but it will also offer a wireless...

Libretto 70CT
Review of Toshiba Libretto Series by
littlewhitey
Advantages: So small!!!
Disadvantages: Small screen resolution, slow and breaks easily
...I bought my libretto a few days ago, its so cute and tiny!!
Then the PCMCIA socket fell off the motherboard, which was annoying..Anyway, that was fixed by getting an external port replicator so I can carry on using PCMCIA.
Toshiba Libretto's are some of the coolest laptops around. They're not that powerful now but the size makes them amazingly cool!
It has a 120MHZ Pentium CPU with MMX, so its perfectly capable of browsing the internet, email, MSN'ing and using Microsoft Office. Mine only has 16mb ram, which can be a problem however it is upgradable to 32mb which isn't as bad but still, it isn't much.
The battery life is good, mine has a reasonably old low capacity version of the libretto battery and it worked for an hour and a bit running a wireless card.
The only real problems are the small screen resolution, but I...
