Advantages: Perfect for a chill out sesh
Disadvantages: It's not 'Ten', but does it matter?

Vital Pearl Jam

Advantages: Eddies fantastic vocals

...Pearl Jam – Vitalogy. Pearl Jam formed in the early nineties, and were quickly labelled “Grunge” to fit with the uprising trend from Seattle which spawned such groups as Nirvana and Mudhoney. Pearl Jam Vs The World!!

...This album is absolutely amazing! Their follow up to the massive "Ten" I'm sure some people were ready to criticise it but I can't find any fault. The album explodes to life with "Go" and follows with more fast-paced, technical songs such as "Dissident", "Animal", "Rearviewmirror", "Blood" and "Rats" all of which are very rock, very grunge, very heavy guitars, pounding drums with some excellent solos and melodies. This album, however also brings out the same melodic qualities we found in "Ten" with songs like "Daughter", "Indifference" and the beautiful "Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town" with more acoustic, detailed and calm songs, songs that could bring a tear to a grown man's eyes! ...Pearl Jam’s second offering, Vs was the first time I heard the band and I can say I’ve never looked back since. I’m gonna attempt to blitz all their albums for ciao – but it’s going to be some task to get over how much I love this band. Vs kicks in with ‘Go’ full of pulsating riffs and pounding drums and bass. I can’t help think of Kurt Cobain when listening to this track. In April 1994 at a Pearl Jam gig in Atlanta Georgia, I remember Eddie dedicating this song to Kurt with the pleading lyrics, “please don’t go on me” – a few days later Kurt was gone. Advantages: A Couple of Catchy Songs
Disadvantages: Uninspiring compared to their older stuff.

...I can't help but be dissapointed with Pearl Jam by this album. As a huge fan, perhaps I expected a little too much from this self titled album (known to fans as 'Avocado'). OK, its not true to say there are no good songs on the album. 'World Wide Sucide' and 'Umemployable' are catchy almost poppy songs that get the crowd going but apart from these two I feel the album lacks inspiration. Songs like 'Marker in the Sand' make you wonder where Pearl Jam are headed, while the lyrics in all tracks are tiresomely political. On the music side of things, this is the shortest review i've ever written, but thats how this album leaves me - with little to remark upon. It just seems extremely average. The pack the cd comes in isnt exactly inspiring either, while the booklet with the song lyrics in for some reason smells foul and is...

...Pearl Jam – No Code ------------------- Released in 1996, this was the bands 4th album. After following on from the difficult Vitalogy album, we were maybe expecting a more uplifting long player. Think again! Pearl Jam decided to produce what I would call their most abstract effort to date. That being said, it wasn’t at all bad! The temptation to produce another Ten, or Vs must have been overwhelming, but the boys were stuck on course to play with their own formula. This may have seemed like idiocy at the time, but they had made their decision and for me, it was a good one. A worthwhile addition to any Pearl Jam Collection

Advantages: 30 songs, 2 CDs, rare, superb
Disadvantages: Some are B sides for a reason!

...Ok so i hold my hand up. I bought this album more because i wanted a quality CD version of the song Yellow Ledbetter rather than because i wanted to closely analyse all of the PJ songs that fell just short of making albums. But i'm definitely glad i bought it. I was probably born about 3 or 4 years too late to be a Pearl Jam fan when they first came crashing onto the scene. But my older sister made sure that i learnt to love them. This is a collection of B sides and rarities that have been cut (and 'Lost' - hence lost dogs!) by PJ over the many years since they began. The likes of 'Wash', "Sad" and of course, one of their greatest ever tracks "Yellow Ledbetter" are all mightily superb and worth more than just a listen. However, despite me being a massive Pearl Jam fan, some of what's on here isn't so hot...i guess they...
