Pentax produces pretty perfect pictures!

Advantages: Great build quality, easy to use and good picture quality.
Disadvantages: No image stabalisation and no wide angle capability in the lens.

Pentax are one of the original so called big 5, the 5 best known names in the camera market, along side the likes oc Canon, Nikon, Olympus and the now collapsed Minolta which has recently been taken over by Sony, well not exactly taken over but Sony design their DSLR cameras around the old Minolta workings which allows the old Minolta lenses to work on the new Sony bodies, anyhow, I digress. Advantages: image quality,shake reduction, backwards lens compatibilty

...it and through a process of elimination I taped over all the contacts between the foot and the base of the flash to leave just the ones that trigger the flash (You can switch the foot to manual but I still got a very low voltage across the contacts). These flashes are automatic thyristor types you just set the camera's shutter speed/aperture in manual mode to the auto setting on the flashgun (eg f8) and away you go. These flash guns work extremely well and I've saved myself a bundle of cash. FOCUS Auto focus with the Pentax 18-55mm is quick and even works well in low light. It might hunt on the odd occasion if it's a low light low contrast scene but it always focuses. I believe the flash can provide strobed light to assist but I haven't needed it so far. I looked at used bodies - a lot of them are rather tatty, as they seem to be popular with professionals, who don?t give them an easy life. So I bought new, and economised with second-hand lenses and a non-metering pentaprism. I?ve never regretted any of my choices. ...I was given the Pentax Optio S10 as a birthday present 2 months ago to replace my film camera and quite honestly I was convinced I would hate it and thought it was far too small and would be fiddly and not take photos as good as my SLR. Well I have to say I've been made to eat my words, Firstly the quality of the pictures is totally amazing, very crisp and clear, even when printed at A4 size they don't lose any clarity. The display screen is much larger than on many small digital cameras and makes it easy to use. The controls are very easy to use, when you click onto the mode screen there is a clear symbol for each type of operation and when you click on it, it gives a brief description of what it does which saves from having to consult the manual all the time. The battery life is a real plus as I'd heard that many digital cameras...
