Sony DEJ955 CD Walkman
Advantages: Small, light, long battery life
Disadvantages: cr***y headphones, price
...Quick Review : dead light and small, bloody good sound, long battery life, and easy to use. Shame about the supplied phones.
Full Review :-
I've just picked up my new DEJ955, after sending a DEJ925 back with a
problem - HED.CO.UK sorted the problem in only 8 days - I'd recommend them.
Anyway, back to the CD player. It plays CDs. It plays them very well.
According to the blurb (advertising info), it will handle CDRs and CDRWs. I've just tried these, and there is no problem at all, which is handy, as I'm slowly transferring my collection of vinyls onto CD, so the CDR playing is important to me. I’ve tried with both ‘Audio CDRs’ and the standard computer data CDRs. So long as there’s music on them, they play perfectly. Ah, the subtle sound of hiss and click from vinyl, faithfully playing on a CD! JOYJ...

Dansai 955 Opinion
Advantages: MultiRegion, plays all formats of CD/DVD
Disadvantages: Minor glitches on some DVD's and certain CDR media
...As someone who travels a lot to other countries, I purchase a lot of DVD's from overseas. This saves me a lot of money for starters and also allows me to own the film prior to UK release.
Prior to owning one of these players, I have had numerous others including those which had been 'chipped'. With a hardware chipped player, certain film studios decided to use a seperate encryption process which would mean that the DVD would not play on machines that had said 'chips' installed. A classic example of this is the Region 1 version of "A Knights Tale".
I purchased a Dansai DVD1010 prior to this one, and although it had all the same functions as the 955, it lacked analogue 5:1 output (which I already owned a 5:1 analogue speaker setup). So I returned the DVD1010 to Tesco & exchanged it for the 955.
The 955 is of a much higher build...

DEJ955 - So far, Sony good
Advantages: Stylish, excellent quality, good features
Disadvantages: Easy to scratch, expensive
...If you want style and have the money to pay out then the Sony DEJ955 is the thing to get. Sony has made this portable CD player the smallest and lightest around. It is made out of Aluminium, which makes it look stylish and very light. I have mine in silver but you can also get it in a purple colour. I pick silver as I found out that it can scratch easily which isn?t good when your paying out about £150 for it (the price has dropped slightly since I bought it, if interested then you should look at paying about £130 give or take some). The sound quality is amazing, as you would expect form Sony.
When I bought it and opened up the box it came with everything, a funky charging cradle, the CD player itself, power adaptor, two Sony batteries, external AA battery holder, a case to put the CD player in, a set of earphones, a controller...

Pentium IV...Vs...Athlon DDR
Advantages: Will be fast when the software is optimised
Disadvantages: New socket format, special power supply, uses RDRAM at the moment.
...A lot has been said about the Pentium IV since it's launch, most of it being negative. This isn't the first time that Intel have been criticised for new processors, but ultimately their technology becomes more accepted and in some cases the standard. Remember MMX? It offered no benefits at launch but very quickly became a must have because games and software were written to support the instructions.
This is now true of their latest processor, the Pentium IV. It has been slated for it's inability to beat a lower clock speed Athlon DDR, but this is un-realistic. There isn't ANY software that supports the architecture of new SSE2 instructions of the P4, and once they become available the benefits will very quickly be seen. Indeed, the latest drivers for nVidia graphics cards have been optimised for P4 and show a 100% improvement in some...

Pentium D, Just do It!!
Advantages: Dual Core, Fast Clock Speed, Overclocking, 4mb cach
Disadvantages: slower than the newer core 2 duo range
...I have had this processor for almost a year now, the price i paid at purchase was around £99. I have had no problems with the processor and it has worked well for me.
I have this processor installed in the following rig and it has worked great for both gaming and work based activity.
Rig:
Processor: Intel Pentium D 945 / 3.4 GHz processor (This one)
MotherBoard: Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe
Ram: 3GB (3x1GB Sticks)
Graphics: Nvidia 7600GT 256mb
HDD: 2x250GB and a 160gb (all SATAII)
Disk Drives: DVD-RW (Dual Layer)
I use this system for gaming and the processor has done a very good job of playing games, Ripping and Burning music and movies and a lot of Compression and De-Compression.
Processor Specs:
Processor Type: Intel Pentium D 945
Clock Speed: 3.4 GHz
Bus Speed...

2.8ghz Pentium 4 - Oldie but Goodie
Advantages: Cheap, Good Performace
Disadvantages: Not HT, L2 Cache could be bigger, Easy to install if you know how.
...I've had this processor for nearly two years now, and following a cost benefit anaylsis, I still don't see the point in upgrading. It's a perfectly capable processor, and teamed with 1GB of memory, it performs well. Theres not a lot to say about this processor, and what will be said will be extreamly boring. I can see why processors don't have a lot of reviews, they're not exactly easy or fun to write about, but I'll give it my best shot.
----------General Information----------
The processor uses the old pentium 4 socket 478 style interface meaning it is only comaptable with socket 478 motherboards(Though i believe you can buy an adapter for 478 chips to make the work with socket LLG775 motherboards - the newer but not newest design).
The processor is 32-bit, has 512kb of L2 Cache and a FSB equivalent to 533mhz. This makes...

Pentium 4 steams in
Advantages: Much faster clock speeds, good for games and multimedia applications
Disadvantages: A bit expensive, tricky to upgrage from an existing Pentium chip
...Intel made the first ever showing of the Pentium 4 chip at the Comdex trade show in Las Vegas last Christmas. Pentium 4 based systems currently run at 1.4 and 1.5GHz, they are now appearing in brand names like Dell, Gateway and IBM.
This was a key release for Intel as they were facing though competition from their competitors especially AMD. Presently, the AMD Athlon processor costs half the price of a Pentium 3 and performs better in almost every area.
Rumours have it that the first Pentium 4 chips are not as fast as the current 1GHz Athlon, and are slower than the 1.2GHz Athlon system with DDR memory.
However, the 1.5GHz Pentium 4 chip is excellent for playing games and multimedia devices.
PC manufactures have complained about the high costs involved in making a Pentium 4 chip. They may have a point but whenever...

Pentium Flaw
Advantages: Fast, Available to anyone and his dog.
Disadvantages: Expensive, do not perform at best yet due to lack of demanding software.
...When it comes to the processor market and the way that the sales are split, I am very disturbed at the fact that newcomers seem to go for Intel chips, especially the latest Pentium ranges! Now we see the advent of the Pentium 4 chips, available widely in 1.1, 1.3, and 1.4 GHz models. I work with over 100 machines at a time, all which once ran on Intel chips, this however, was changed when we realised our "breakdown rate" was 1 in 6! This clearly shows that Intel are just in for the money and couldn't care less about reliability. Now we use AMD and the "breakdown rate" with them is less than 1 in 23! Astonishing. Nevertheless, the P4 is a technological breakthrough so more about that (after working slepplessly with it for a week). I received my P4 1.4 GHz machine with 512MB RAM and all the gubbins. I was worried that it failed many of our...

Pentium 3- are they worth the cash
Advantages: Widely available, reliable
Disadvantages: High price, relativly low performance
...The pentium 3 is available at speeds ranging from 450MHZ to 1GHZ ( 1000MHZ ) and the cache ( processor memory ) is typically 256Kb. The processor enhancments are the ever popular MMX. The main thing that attracts people to the Pentium 3 is publicity it is given by the people at Intel. Most shop bought computers will contain a pentium processor of
some sort. There is no dispute over the power increase over previous pentium models and over those of a lower clock speed. How does the pentium 3 hold its own against its main competitor the AMD processors. The honest answer is not too well. Firstly the cost of a pentium processor is a lot more than its AMD equivalent, the benchmarks of the processor compared with AMD do not wield good results. The AMD equivalents outperform the Pentium 3's every time. There are three types of processor...

Are Pentium processors the best
Advantages: Relativly Fast
Disadvantages: Now aging
...The Pentium based PC processors have always been the best, the top of the range, but did have their problems. The main problem with these processors was that you didn’t get much for your money and often they were twice the price of other brands. The AMD processors are now becoming more and more of an alternative, and sometime a fraction of the price. If you do have the money then Pentium 2 or Pentium 3 processors are the best.
The Pentium processors are the quickest, and have the best specification and are the best choice for the PC gamer. The Pentium process are though good for other users, like word-processing, desktop publishing but other processors of similar clock speed will do just a well.
If gaming is you thing, and you have the dosh then the Pentium 3 processor is the processor for you.
If your on a budget and don...
