Sweet Peppers
Advantages: Taste lovely
Disadvantages: When growing from seed it takes a long time
...Growing Sweet Peppers
I took a gap year out and the communities I seen along the way grew a lot of their own food, which inspired me to grow some vegetables of my own. I decided to be adventurous and grow peppers. They are quite hard work but worth it in the end when you are cutting off the delicious peppers to eat. Sweet peppers are in the same family as tomatoes and potatoes. They produce large fruits, which can be yellow, green and red depending on how ripe it is.
**HOW TO GROW**
From February/March onwards you can scatter seeds thinly onto moistened compost. Keep this compost moist but not soaked. Cover the seeds with about half a centimetre of compost, then glass and newspaper. Turn the glass daily to prevent condensation dripping onto the seedlings.
I have successfully germinated seeds with just newspaper over them in...

grow your own tomatoes
Advantages: great to grow indoors
Disadvantages: dont like the cold
...Tomatoes are not realy a fruit you can grow in the open due to our cold british weather we need to grow our tomatoes in a greenhouse.
I dont usually plant mine untill early may as the frost will definatley kill them.
I use grow bags to grow the tomatoes in as they dont require a lot of soil as there roots are not too large but the plant itself does get to around 6 foot tall. I space 3 plants along my grow bag, one at each end and one in the middle.
I have never attempted to grow a tomato plant from seed as i always buy mine from a garden center as a baby plant.
As tomatoes are very heavy they tend to pull the plant over so i tie mine to the poles in my greenhouse to stop this happening with garden string.
There is no mistaking when your tomatoes are ready to eat as they will be hanging off the plant, green to begin...

Tomatoes? Sauce!
Advantages: Easy to grow, tasty and heavy cropping
Disadvantages: Prone to diseases, Requires heavy watering
...Tomatoes are one of the easiest of the vegetables to grow at home fom seed and they are most certainly one of my favourites. In our country, they are grown as annuals, and if grown in the tropics, then they are grown as short lived perennials. Indeterminate types of tomatoes (mid-size, non bushy) has a very long trailing main stem, which may grow to as long as 8 feet and has vigorous side shoots. The shorter (semi-determinate) and bush (determinate) types of tomato stop growing much sooner than other indeterminate types of tomatoe, and the stems on these end in a truss of fruits.
You can also obtain some dwarf varieties, which will only grow to approx 9 inches wide and the same tall. From the many different types of tomatoes that are available, you can select for different colours. Tomatoes come in yellow, red, pink, orange or white...

Tomato Tales.
Advantages: Don't need much space to grow some.
Disadvantages: Need lots of watering.
...First, some facts. Tomatoes are good food. They contain vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium and iron.
They are packed with phytochemicals. What are phytochemicals? A very simple explanation is that our bodies can make use of them to help fight disease, including heart disease, cancers and viruses.
Did you know that tomatoes are perennial plants? It's only in cooler climates, like ours, that we stop them growing. This ensures that what little fruit we do get will ripen during our short growing season.
Tomatoes originated in South America and come from the same family as potatoes.
You can graft a tomato plant onto a potato plant and harvest a crop from both. I was shown how to do this at school. It was confusing, as I'd also learnt that a tomato is a fruit and yet a potato is a vegetable. Or perhaps not. Potato seed comes from a fruit...

Chunky, Chillie Cherry Tomato pasta
Advantages: Chunky, savoury sauce with a kick of chilli
Disadvantages: not hot enough if you like your chilli
...Whole Cherry Tomato and Roasted Peppers Sauce for Pasta
Also cherry tomatoes and chilli!!
Made by Sacla Italia
Prepared in Asti, Italy and distributed by Sacla UK Ltd
I choose this due to the name. As I have Italian friends, they swear by Sacla for authentic italian products for cooking in the UK.
And I always buy Sacla Pesto etc.
THE PRODUCT
Packaging is a glass jar, not a conventional jar however. It has a bronze lid reading Sacla Italia.
On the main label it is red and orange with a green Sacla logo.
Its a pleasing jar, there are parts of the jar written in Italian. This i think helps the consumer decide for authenticity, and that it is prepared in Italy. It looks authentic.
The price, you do pay a bit more than other brands, but I would expect a higher quality product in return. The whole jar was £1.99 for 420g...

Yummy pepper, tomato and cheese soup.
Advantages: Delcious, easy to make, warming and filling.
Disadvantages: None unless you don't like peppers or tomatoes.
...This is a recipe I came up with after having some really delicious soup at a motorway services. I paid about £3.50 for a cup of it and for that I can make an enormous pan full which will easily feed the 3 of us twice with some left over to freeze and it freezes really well.
I have listed enough to feed four people generously.
Ingredients:
6 red peppers
10 ripe tomatoes
250g mature cheddar cheese
3pts vegetable stock or 3pts water and a vegetable stock cube
Salt and pepper
4tsp olive oil
Small bunch of fresh basil or 2tsp dried basil
Method:
Boil a kettle full of water and dunk in the tomatoes. After a few seconds scoop them out being careful not to burn yourself and peel the skin off. It should peel off really easily; if it doesn't just pop them back in for a bit. Chop them roughly and remove the seeds if you want to...

Tomatoes, yum!
Advantages: Good for you, versatile.
Disadvantages: Go off quickly.
...than 60 million tonnes are produced a year, making it the most popular fruit.
Tomatos were first cultivated in South America.
They were introduced to Europe in 1556.
The technical term for them is 'lycopersicon lycopersicum' which translates as wolf peach.
They're related to the aubergine, red pepper, ground cherry, potato, and belladonna.
There are over 10,000 varieties of tomato.
♥Things you can make with tomatos.
Well, the best thing to do for health benefits is to eat them raw, but that gets rather boring.
You can eat tomatoes as a pizza topping (my favourite), on top of tomato puree.
You can use a tin of chopped tomatos as a really cheap (15p a tin!) pasta sauce, which of course you can spice up with herbs, mushrooms, meat and uh...whatever you like, really!
A recipe I like to use (my own):
Make up enough bread...

Dr. Pepper - Delicious!!!!!
Advantages: tastes nice and is good value for money
Disadvantages: high sugar content
... What Is It
Dr. Pepper is a ?sparkling fruit-flavour soft drink? made by the coca-cola company. It was first served in 1885 and introduced nationally in the United States in 1904 as a new kind of soft drink.
It comes in 330ml cans, 500ml bottles and 2L bottles. There is also a diet version called Dr. Pepper Zero.
The packaging of Dr. Pepper is instantly recognisable, a dark red colour with what looks like splash marks and the name of the drink in white writing. The cans are entirely red and the bottles just have red labels.
Ingredients and Nutritional Information
Carbonated Water, Sugar, Colour (caramel (E150d), Flavourings (including caffeine),
Phosphoric Acid, Preservative (E211)
There are most likely flavourings left off the list to keep the ?secret? of how to get that unique taste.
The typical nutritional values...

What Colour Are Your Tomatoes? Red, black yellow, purple, lemon?
Advantages: Lots of flavours, colours and varieties
Disadvantages: Hard to get seed for some kinds
...If you thought that all tomatoes were much the same in colour and shape, you'd be wrong. These are just a few of the more unusual varities which are sometimes know as heritage, or heirloom varieties.
The Black Krim is an unusual tomato. This rare tomato has purple to black skin and reddish-black flesh. It is a large tomato with a slightly irregular surface. Most black tomatoes come from Russia and this one originates from the Island of Krim which is on the Black Sea.
The lemon boy tomato is actually a pale lemon colour, not golden yellow. It is aromatic and has a slightly pinky tinge to its flesh. The skin feels soft and almost peachy and the ox heart is a heart shaped fruit as the name suggests and a lovely deep pink colour. A single fruit can weigh as much as one pound. There are few seeds in these tomatoes which makes them great...
