On the SRC unit we have 12 residents with varying needs, which is why I find it so interesting and rewarding. There are those who are more aware of their situation and surroundings and only get the odd moment of confusion about what time of day it is, for example, and then there are those who think they are still children and will spend a lot of time looking for their parents. Some experience hallucinations and delusions, thinking their rooms have been bugged or someone is trying to murder them, and others have difficulty communicating - they know what they want to say, but the wrong words come out and us carers have to try and decipher what they are meaning...
