Worst of the 'BIG FOUR' Banks

Advantages: Lots of branches, Free pens always in stock
Disadvantages: Inefficient and poorly trained staff, Fees, uncompetitive rates, HUGE queues

However, the lady relocated to a different branch, and I was served by another young male, whom told me I couldn't get an overdraft because of my credit score and to apply after three months. I did that three months later and even though I'd been paying in my salary of over £1000.00 each month, still couldn't get the overdraft. They say I had been paying in small amounts on some months but what the guy saw on his computer screen were the smaller deposits I make over the month, on top of my salary. They seem to just follow what their computer screen says for these decisions, but either way, why did the first lady tell me I was entitled to an overdraft in the first place? One requirement for me was to be able to bank online as well as in branch so access to Internet...

I have maintained my account for 8 years solid and have been repaid with accusations, embarassments, arguments and crap (sorry to be blunt) customer service. I am leaving this bank in August once I have received my last student payment for this term. I no longer have the patience for this bank, and I am actually a very patient, calm and unargumentative person. Online service is very slow, I was kicked off for 1 week because they provided wrong password/member number match. Poorly trained staff, many cannot speak good English. Hold goes on forever when calling by phone. Please, whatever you do, do not go with this bank if you want an easy, hassle free life. ...Lloyds TSB internet banking lets you manage your finances, apply for loans, credit cards, mortgages & pay off bills from home or anywhere with internet access. It seems very secure, you have a 9 digit username which is randomly given to you to prevent people guessing then you have a password which much be more than 6 digits & preferably a mix of letters & numbers. You then also have to enter your memorable information which very similar to a password therefore can be pretty much anything you want it to be as long as you can remember it! Disadvantages: Poor customer service

...late however to avoid being hit with a total of £115 of charges. The staff at the call centre are just unhelpful, defensive and frequently rude. They've an infuriating habit of agreeing with you about the deficiencies in their service, but then simply stating they can't do anything about it. They only ever phone you to offer personal loans. Their rates don't compare well to other banks, and they've very few branches. I think overall my advice would be that for (small) business banking they're not too bad (though there are better), and if the ethical stance means a lot to you, then you should consider them - for this alone I'd recommend them. For personal accounts however, you would get a better service elsewhere. But then you knew that didn't you? ;-)...

I often read press articles that "tell" us that the great British public suffers from terrible inertia when it comes to changing their bank account, and that over 75% of us never do.
