.... WHY USE MP3 OVER CD? MP3s are compressed audio files, so instead of having about 20 songs to a cd, you can store up to about 170 songs on a cd. The downfall here is that you need to have a computer with a cd writer or at least be friendly with someone that has. The player also does not come with any software to help you with this, but I would recommend Nero as a burning program. The audio data needs to be encoded as mp3 or cda (normal cd data) otherwise it will not play e.g. wav or midi files. I?ve found this player to be compatible with all my cd-r and cd-rw cds. SOUND QUALITY The sound quality is good, however the volume controls are at set amounts, so it can be annoying if 1 setting is too quiet and the next is too loud. ...Whenever I?ve had to choose a CD player like this, for me or for a present, the first thing I look at is the battery time. This is what first led me to this player, it advertises 30+ hours of CD playback and 48 hours of mp3 playback (these are for non-stop playback, with no skipping. Using the skip a lot will reduce battery time and giving it resting time between playbacks increases battery time.) Those numbers seemed pretty amazing to me from just 2AA batteries. So I bought it.... The round shape looks great and I can?t see how a CD player could get much smaller. It feels very well built, and it takes very big bumps (unusually big) to get it to skip. The remote control is useful for whenever you are carrying it around in your pocket or a bag and don?t want to have to reach into your pocket and fumble around for the buttons...

An Atrac-tive player

...Once upon a time I had a car, and it had a radio that didn't work and a cassette player that did. So I used to tape my CD's onto cassettes to listen to in the car. This wasn't ideal, after all a tape only plays for a relatively short time before it needs turning over, but that was all I had. The Most Cost Efficient Way For MP3 on the Move

Advantages: Music on the Move , And Very Cheap after initial set up
Disadvantages: Cost of initial set up (if you dont already have the kit)

...I see lots of reviews for the Creative Labs portable hard drive (300 GBP) and various other portable MP3 players (100 GBP to 300GPB but with very limited playtime and very expensive removable media). Not only that , the Sunday supplements and PC mags tell us that we need to spend at least 250 GBP to have MP3 on the move. First of all MP3 is music , and the cheapest way to get music on the move is on tape. A SONY walkman costs from about 11.99 GBP with tapes of varying length for around 1GBP. This is convenient but , I don’t like compiling tapes any more and tape is inherently fragile. Next step up is minidisk, you can get a portable recorder for around 100GBP (Argos are doing a Sharp one in their sale, and always check out Richer Sounds) with mini disks around 1.5 GBP for a reasonable quality disk. How the hell do I play an MP3 CD ...

Advantages: Range of features, reads CD-RW audio CDs, anti-shock, built-in battery charger
Disadvantages: Tricky to set up an MP3 CD to work with it, no backlight to the display, unresponsive buttons

...to use it while driving is the quality of the buttons. They are very hard to push down, feel cheap and are somewhat unresponsive. Ideally, this unit could have done with an inline remote control. One of the more impressive features is the anti-shock. Okay, all portable CD players come with anti-shock as standard but this one doesn't skimp on it with a 45 seconds ASP for CD mode and 120 seconds for MP3! The volume is pretty reasonable. Most people would find it perfectly loud ... I have poor hearing but it's fine for me at full volume. Now we come to the biggest problem of this unit. It is EXTREMELY fussy when it comes to reading and playing MP3 CDs. Whether this is a continuing problem with Windows XP, I'm not sure. Microsoft have released a patch for XP to fix known issues about getting MP3 CDs to work with units like the 372...
