A city in the sunshine, remote and empty, Perth, W.A.
Advantages: Wonderful climate, no crowds, clean, very pretty
Disadvantages: Not very historically interesting
...Perth, Western Australia.
=Where is Perth?=
Perth is the Capital city of the state of Western Australia which is physically about a third of the entire country of Australia but the population is small ? only about 10% of the nation?s population. This population of about 2 million most actually live in Perth ( 1.5 million) and the other towns like Geralton, Albany, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie and Broome so it is a very empty State in the other areas.
Perth is situated on the Swan River and is said to be the most isolated city in the world. Perth?s nearest city is over 1 million is Adelaide which is about 2000km away. Perth is actually geographically closer to Indonesia than it is to Sydney.
=A bit of History=
Perth was first settled by British in 1832 and was officially known as Western Australia at this time but more often referred to as...

Perth : Western Promise
Advantages: good weather, good beaches, good facilties, good, good, good!!!
Disadvantages: Absolutely none
...Perth in the far bottom left of Australia is approx. 1500 miles away from any other town or city, but when youre there you would never know it. It is reletively small compared to the giant Sydney but it has a quaintness that endures. Perth has one of the most "picturesque"
city centres ive been to. The river Swan cuts throught the centre of Perth and standing on the hill lookin over the estury at Kings Park you really get a breath taking view of the river winding its way through with Perths sky scrapers as the backdrop.
Ive been there twice and to be honest plan to go again. I fact the last time i was there i very nearly didnt come back.
The people of Perth seem to not have a care in the world.I once asked someone if they were going to work and was answered ..."well i might go in a bit later...i dont know yet!!!".
i went to Perths...

Imagine your dream holiday or dream life..it's here in Perth
Advantages: Friendly city with great transport and something for everyone from wildlife to clubbing
Disadvantages: Its so far away..I want to go every weekend.
...Perth City, Australia.
I kind of wished I was a member on here 5 years ago when I decided to travel to Aus for a year but its still all in my memory and Perth stands way way out, it is easily the best place I have ever visited in my life.
I travelled out August 2004 and my flight was from Dublin to Perth via Kuala Lumpur.
When I arrived I first stayed at the YHA backpacker's hostel based in Wellington Street, Perth. This was a great base for me to start my trip, I was in the centre of Northbridge and close to all the bars and restaurants an there was also a fine selection of things to do in my immediate location.
I was also only 5 minutes walk from the "City" area of Perth City which contained the main shops, malls and also the business centre and the buildings that you see in the picture of the fantastic skyline.
I would...

Western Australia? (Wait A while!)
Advantages: Detailed, helpful, indispensable, describes everything you could possibly want!
Disadvantages: Don't know! Only covers WA?!
...People from other parts of Australia often think of WA (Western Australia) as Wait Awhile! But this easy-going, laid-back lifestyle and group of people is just one of its big attractions. And the Lonely Planet guide to WA explains every one in detail, from costs, where to go, where to stay, where to eat, where to shop, what to see, suggested itineraries, suggested timeframes if you want to really explore the state, what not to do etc etc to name but a few!
Perth is nearer to Singapore than Sydney and the most isolated city. WA covers almost half of Australia and yet only about 1.5million people permananently reside there, meaning there is a huge expanse of nothingness but this is also one of its major attractions. It never fails to amaze me how you can drive on an open stretch of road for 5 hours, only see a few cars and then look...

Dinosaurs and diamonds at Perth's museum
Advantages: Modern and spacious, good on history and fauna
Disadvantages: Some dioramas need a makeover
...If you are at a loose end in Perth Western Australia, then I recommend you take a look at the WA Museum. This is located at the Perth Cultural Centre, in James Street. It is easy to get to, being near the railway station and Northbridge area in the CBD.
FREE BUSES
It's worth noting that there are free buses that run within the city area in Perth, and they cover a loop which will drop you off at attractions like this.
This review covers my impressions of the museum when I visited it in September 2008. It isn't a big museum but that isn't necessarily a shortcoming because some of the displays were rather good in my opinion.
WHY GO ?
I realise that museums aren't really the first thing you'd think of if you were visiting Perth. Possibly you might be more inclined to hit the magnificent beaches, or bike along the miles...

The real Australia!
Advantages: Scenery, wildlife, beaches, lovely towns - pretty much everything!!
Disadvantages: Long drives to see anything (but in a way makes it good as not crowded)
...Having just had a 2 week holiday in Western Australia I thought it only right I should share it with you all! This is more an overview of the places I visited rather than an opinion on the whole state because even though I covered more than 2500 miles in 7 days I didn't cover hardly any of the state when you look on the map because it's that big!
Western Australia covers 2.5million square kilometres and constitutes about one third of Australia, is well over half the size of Europe and yet it's population is a mere 1.6 million. Getting anywhere is a long drive, and hours upon hours staring at perfectly straight roads without seeing another vehicle is not uncommon. This is what adds to the character of the state though and I actually loved it because it feels so untouched and un-touristy compared to the East coast of Australia.

The world's remotest city - Perth
Advantages: Attractive place, probably nice for retirement. Good for backpackers.
Disadvantages: Not much to see, don't go in the winter.
...I had always wanted to visit Australia, and especially since I read a book by Lesley Pearce called Trust Me, it finally nailed it for me. It wasn't an 'if' I go, it was 'when' I go to Australia.
We booked round the world flight tickets, and landed in Perth on May 10th 2004.
I had booked a room for the three of us online (which was the cheapest we could find), at the Perth Ambassador Hotel on Adelaide Terrace.
When we first arrived in Australia, we were all a bit down at having to leave Hong Kong, and were really tired from the travelling.
We checked in at the hotel after taking a taxi, the receptionist said they only had a booking for 2 people to share a single room, I showed them my booking receipt, a little annoyed, and they prepared another room for us, which was huge and had 3 double beds!
We ordered room service...

Perth Mint: The Big Gold Nugget of Australia
Advantages: See the Biggest Gold Bars and Coins in the Southern Hemisphere!
Disadvantages: None. Unless You Dont Like Gold.
...On our big trip around Oz my partner and I visited Perth first (mainly because his family live here) and I begged him to take me to see the Perth Mint. After six weeks of seeing everything else, I managed to get him to take me. I was so excited being a girl that adores gold, old and historical things and read up on the whole experience in my lonely guide planet book (please see my other review on this item).
Perth Mint is one of the biggest and oldest attractions that the small city of Perth Australia has to offer. It originally dispersed the Aussie Dollar currency for the whole of Australia when it was originally founded back in the 1800s by the English Government. Today the building is used as a tourist attraction and creates "novelty" coins (i.e. historical anniversaries and Olympics).
On entering the grounds of the Mint you can...

Gee - that's a lucky shag!!
Advantages: plenty to do, relaxed, vibrant, great year round climate & friendly people.
Disadvantages: very remote
...gone with high expectations I don?t really think I would have been disappointed because it was a trip that we both enjoyed immensely and with hindsight wished we had organised more time there.

***History to Perth**
Western Australia (WA) is a size almost beyond comprehension and makes up around 33% of the Australian land mass (2.5m sq km from a total of 7.7m) with a coastline stretching 20,000 km. It is 3 ½ times bigger that Texas. It dwarfs the UK. It is probably the most diverse of all Australian states from the dry, barren land of the North to the lush green forests of the South West and because of this diversity is a great place to travel. Perth is based on the South East coastline.
Dutch sailor, Dirk Hartog, was the first recorded European to have landed in WA in 1616 although it wasn...

Western Australia full of variety
Advantages: Tranquil, peaceful, great scenery
Disadvantages: far away from perth
...In western Australia, there is such variety in a state that is bigger that Britain and Ireland. Whether you want rolling countryside, barron desert, excellent surf or city life, its all here.
I was lucky enough to visit western Australia for Christmas and the Millenium and I will be returning there very soon. I lived in Perth for 4 weeks, went to a seaside resort called Dunsborough which boasts caverns, A huge variety of Vineyards offering the best in Autralian wine, and Yallingup (thats how its pronounced anyway!) which offers brilliant surf.
Dunsborough offers secluded bays, and a relaxing by the sea break, as well as a shopping complex.
This is another lovely relatively "undiscovered" place in Western Australia....
