Highly recommended pet insurance provider

Advantages: Cover for life and quick payouts
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest on the market

...Pet Plan certainly aren't the cheapest pet insurer, but they are one of the best! The main bonus that puts them ahead of the rest is their 'cover for life'. This means that each year, following the excess payment (mine is currently £45), the animal is covered for continuing illnesses. Many insurance companies only pay out for the same disease for one year only, or up to a certain amount. If your animal is diagnosed with a long term illness, this can mean disaster with these companies, as you will shortly find yourself paying the bills even though you thought your pet was insured. Pet Plan insure cats, dogs, horses and rabbits (there may be more that I am not aware of). You get a discount if you insure 3 animals with them. Pedigree animals are more expensive to insure than crossbreeds and Pet Plan rarely refuse to pay out...

More Than Pet Insurance

Advantages: Paid out with no problems
Disadvantages: Poor customer service when you have a policy

...After purchasing an 8 month old rescue dog call Ruby (labrador/collie cross) we decided we should be responsible and take out pet insurance. After searching many websites we settled for More Than as this seemed to be the cheapest. I completed an online form and the company contacted me shortly after. The customer service was excellent (although they were trying to sell something so it would be). A few days later we reeceived the paperwork along with a blank claim form. Our cover cost £7.99 a month. Our excess was £70. In July this year out dog got a very nasty cut on her back leg. We took her to the vets who advised an operation which cost just over £200. RSPCA Donate and Insure Your Pet

Advantages: Your pet is covered for injuries
Disadvantages: Not covered for disasters in your own home

...I would just like to recommended this insurance, as I find this is one of the best companies for pets. I have insured pets with the RSPCA for some time and I find that they are helpful, polite and informative about most questions that you have concerning your pet. When you insure your pet for the first time 5% of your premium each month is donated by UK Insurance Ltd to support RSPCA. (They are the company who provide this insurance.) You have to provide them with all the relevant detail as in name of dog, age,type and how much you purchased it for. The policy covers you for Veterinary fees: They pay:- £4,000 for each & every condition. But they will only pay for a condition up to 12 months. Dental treatment for a dog over 18 weeks. They wont pay for: Vaccinations, nail clipping (vets usually do this for free) Flea treatment...

I browsed a few websites and finally decided on Direct Line, partly because I already have car insurance with them and party because their deal seemed quite good. I ordered my pet insurance online and this was very easy to do, the policy could not be used until after 14 days after I had applied for it (I assume this is to save Direct Line having customers singing up at the last minute when they know they are going to have an expensive vet bill. The online process was very quick and simple, they asked for vvarious details about my dogs and literally a few minutes later they were both covered for all manner of illness/accidents. Each month I pay only £15.95 for both my Border Collie dogs to be covered. The policy I chose (Essential Policy Cover) covers my dogs...

Pointless free pet insurance

Advantages: It's free. But then the cover doesn't exist either. It's not worth it.
Disadvantages: It's not worth it. You are left without cover and out of pocket if the worst happens.

...I was browsing the website in September/October when I was pointed through a freebie site to Pets Pyjamas who had a deal with free pet insurance. Reading through the small print, it looked okay, so I immediately signed up my two cats. I waited for the insurance certificate to come through, but it wasn't issued, so I chased it up by trying to re-register the cats. The website said I had already registered them so I felt pretty confident. My mother had insured her dog with the deal at a similar time and hadn't received her certificate either so I didn't worry unduly. About a month later,one of the cats, Bob, came home with half his leg ripped apart by a dog. Hence, instant panic, and three days in the vets for him, waiting for the swelling to do down. Lots of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and finally some serious stitching up...

Tesco Pet Insurance - there is a disadvantage

Advantages: Sometimes cheaper than other pet insurers
Disadvantages: Only pays for 12 months on any condition

...When I bought my first Cavalier King Charles Spaniel I decided that I should buy pet insurance. I tried various insurers and finally bought the insurance from Tesco because, at that time, they were the cheapest and not knowing anything about pet insurance, didn't know any better! When my CKCS took ill I put in a claim. Tesco were very good and paid out the claim promptly. Then my dog had "dry eyes" and, again, Tesco paid out the claim each time I submitted it. It was only in the later stages that I realised they would only pay out on the claim for 12 months. Consequently, when the 12 months were up, they would not cover the "dry eye" condition and I have to pay £39 per tube of treatmentplus £18 vet consultation fee. Pet's, Vet's and Saving Money !!

Advantages: Cheap and Save's a Fortune
Disadvantages: Have to Pay Out Initially.

...fault really maybe I should have seen how thing's were in the morning but even then just for a consultation it's £30. We had taken out 12 day's previously Tesco pet Insurance on all three of our Cats but unfortunately because the 14 day cooling period was not finished I could not claim for the visit. I did ring Tesco and got a very polite reply but a negative reply all the same so had to stomach the loss and rest in the fact that they would be covered in two day's time. Today I had to take the same kitten Becks to the Vet again this time fighting with her sister she had received a nasty bite to the pad of her front paw and it had swollen and she could not walk on it.
