This Beast is a Beauty - Jackson does it again.

Advantages: Spectacular - a wonderful remake.
Disadvantages: Some parts are too long.

...The 1933 version of King Kong was in it's time a blockbuster film that captured the minds of cinemagoers and was loved by generations. But the more sophisticated modern day audience find it hard to be impressed by a jerky plasticine gorilla and so an update to this great story was needed. An update was made in 1976 which brought the story into modern times but this was not a great success. Now director Peter Jackson (of Lord of the Rings fame) has remade the story true to the 1933 original and set in 1933 and what a job he has done of it? Apparently, Jackson cried when he saw the original King Kong at age 9 and he was so moved that he tried to make it himself the next day on super 8 film. So the making of this film for Jackson is a homage to what spurred him to first enter the movie business. Though I loved what Jackson had done...

Peter Kaye: volume 1?

Advantages: Funny family chap
Disadvantages: No celeb stuff

...The book, like the retro comic in question, is a simple and honest read. No long words or pretentious reasoning, just one man telling his story. They say you should only write what you know, and that is exactly what Peter has done here, quite literally! Everything he ever did, however mundane, seems to have ended up in this book, and for that reason alone I don?t think this will appeal to all, especially as he doesn?t include his rise to fame and celebrity, the reason why most people would spend a preposterous £18.95 on it, the autobiography abruptly coming to halt just as we get going. Maybe its part one of his autobiography. Who knows? Maybe he feels guilty about his fame and fortune and by telling more funny stories on his homely normal life is enough for the Jolly Bolton boy for now, working class guilt getting the better of him...

Advantages: Easy watching, some good acting and great vocal performances
Disadvantages: Acting from some of the cast is a bit over-the-top

...This is one of those films that nobody else seems to have heard of and - up until a few years ago - neither had I. Indeed, I have my passion for 1980s pop music to thank for my knowledge that this film even exists. For reasons I don't even remember, I came across a website listing the lyrics to Tears For Fears' mid-eighties hit Everybody Wants To Rule The World and whichever page I viewed mentioned a variety of films, TV programmes and albums that the song featured in. One of these was Peter's Friends . . . so I admit it, I first watched this film because one of my favourite songs was part of the soundtrack! Peter Jackson goes Ape (beware MAJOR spoilers)

Advantages: Amazing visuals

...Honestly who doesn't know the plot of King Kong? A showman discovers the giant ape on a primitive island and brings him back to New York with disasterous consequences for most people involved. I watched & wondered when I was going to see Kong? 1 hour 7 minutes & 20 seconds and we finally see him. They are in New York & on the boat far too long. We should be seeing him about 20 minutes into the film. Jack Black plays OK, but I still wondered about the point of setting the film in the 1930's. There are no real big names in this film, it's sold purely on Peter Jackson directs King Kong! I also wondered how Kong was able to knuckle along the ground and not smash the lead actress into the ground many times over. Andy Serkis plays yet another Peter Jackson CGI monster. The whole "Big Footprint"? done to death in Godzilla. The dinosaurs...

...Being a big fan of Peter Jackson i couldnt wait for this film to come out,it tells the original story of a actress that gets employed to film a movie on a long lost island,the crew all deptart and spend weeks sailling to the island but when they arrive they are met by a strange tribe that fancy offering the actress as a sacrifice,the crew try and save her but are to late and she is carried off by a humungus gorrilla that ends up forming a close relationship with her,the crew manage to capture the gorillla and take it back home but the consequeces are disatrous. As the king kong story never ends well it was never a favorite of mine but with peter jackson disrecting i had to watch.i feel this film is almost split into too parts the begining on the boat and finding the tribe is fantastic,its beautifully set and the acting is great...

Peter Jackson's bloodiest film

Advantages: Gore, gore, gore and more gore
Disadvantages: Not for the faint of heart

...First of all if you are a slight bit squeemish then you'll be watching this behind a pillow or your head in a bucket. Peter Jackson delivered maybe one of the goriest black comedies ever made to date. Ok so the acting is pretty bad and the story is not amzing but you've got to give Jackson his due, there aren't that many people that could carry it off. Brain Dead was made back in 1992 after 'Meet The Feebles' and just before he went Hollywood style with 'Heavenly Creatures' with Kate Winslet and to compare the two movies is, well, shocking. Mind you if you compare 'Brain Dead' to 'Lord of the Rings' then you wouldn't think it was by the same Director. Anyway, onto the story.
