Most expensive part of running a car is petrol

Advantages: The prices are comming down, protest about the prices in the correct way, not by driving slow, as you still use the fuel.
Disadvantages: Still a little more expensive than equator countries, but look at the state of ecconomy.

...which is pretty good. The Government is looking for people to use smaller cars so that we can preserve what is left of our natural resources. We are now changing to gas, but that will soon run out as well. When the last fuel protests were on, I cycled to work, and yes it did take a while, but if you dont use the petrol, then the oil companies wont get the sales, and the government wont get there taxes, and in the short term we will be fitter. Boycotting your own vechiles is the best way of reducing the prices of what we pay. But then you have companies like Esso that does a price watch in a three mile radious. This is rediculous as I past a good four or five petrol stations on the way to work, and going to uni, there is a lot more, and Esso dont have the cheapest petrol. Optimax Petrol.

Advantages: Will make a marked improvement on your car.
Disadvantages: Won't happen overnight. More expensive.

...Optimax petrol is very good. It does make your car more responsive <great in traffic! >. To put my theory to the test, I ran my car on Optimax for 1 year the changed back to regular 95 RON petrol. My car became more sluggish and the MPG came down significantly. From 380 per tank (about 50 litres) to 280. So, the extra 3p per litre could justify this. Because Optimax is more refined <hence, the bigger octane rating> it burns much cleaner and hence, you get a better MPG. This opinion is obviously tying to my car; other people may <and probably will> get different results. The "Optimax" effect will not happen overnight. To really feel a difference you'll have to run it for at least 3000 miles. However, please don't be fooled that the higher octane rating the better it will be for your car! This is a fallacy. Most UK cars runs on 95...

Petrol - Less than 20p a litre

Advantages: Easy to Collect
Disadvantages: Extortion by another name

.... They don't grasp that the electorate is now better informed than it has ever been, especially with internet at their disposal. It would be interesting to what would happen , if , just as a test the oilcompanies halved their prices. The cost to the motorist would halve, the revenue to the government would halve. What's the betting there would be an emergy increase in the level of petrol duty. ALso dont forget that we pay tax (VAT) on the petrol duty so we're being taxed twice. on the same item. The price of petrol is well and truly in the hands of the government, and dont let anyone tell you otherwise. I'm lucky enough not to need or have a car now, but I hire one about every four months and the scariest part is going into a garage, because I see petrol prices jump every time. I have extreme sympathy for people who need cars, but...

MAX YOUR CAR

(MCC Smart) A lot of members were debating the use of Shell Optimax, and by and large the comments were pertaining to the positive end of the scale i.e. use it if you can get it!! Shell Optimax is a premium unleaded produced exclusively for Shell garages and is currently available at around 60% of their networked garages. (Source www.shell.com). Now higher octane petrols are available at most petrol stations aren?t they? Often referred to as super or super plus unleaded they simply have a higher octane rating than the 95 figure allocated to your standard green pumped stuff. Shell Optimax has replaced their own super plus petrol. The blurb in the garage leaflets...

...I bought this when I had my baby as it was apparently the best on the market and I really can't find fault with it at all it has been the most reliable of our baby products and can't rate it highly enough. This car seat is different from others as it is suitable for up to 9 months whilst the majority of others are just up to 6 months. The seat is well padded and has a 'head hugger' so it is safer for newborns. This headhugger can then be removed once your baby is big enough. The straps also can be adjusted once your baby grows so that it is still safe and comfortable. The straps are easy to use- at first they were fiddly but once you have the hang of them then you know what you're doing they're easy! once you have strapped your baby in you then pull on the straps to make them tight so that your baby is safetly in place...

...Scottish petrol prices currently are amongst the highest in United Kingdom at 85.9p per litre, where I live in Aberdeenshire. Which is a very rural area and a car is very important due the lack of bus services in the at the time you want to travel to and from work. It currently costs my wife over £30 a week just to travel to work in Aberdeen. The oil companies many of whom have there United Kingdom headquarters in Aberdeen which is also Europes Oil Capital, although the price per litre is high there is very little they can do to reduce the price as most of it is Tax, which we never see sent on the roads up here as the nearest motorway is the M8 near Glasgow some 125 miles away. Even dual carraigeways and bypasses are rare. In fact you could say that we are completely forgotten up here by Westmister and the sooner that Scotland gets...

...Did you know that it is possible to get cheaper petrol at Sainsburys petrol stations by shopping at the store first? Depending on how much you spend in the supermarket, you receive a money off petrol voucher to use at a Sainsburys petrol station. If you spend £25 you get a voucher for 1p off per litre, £50 for 2p off per litre, £75 for 3p off per litre and 4p off per litre if you spend £100 or more. Since you can also use your reward card in the petrol station also where you will get 2 reward points for every £1 spent you can theoretically save nearly 5p per litre. Since Sainsburys petrol prices are generally pretty competitive anyway this can give you substantial savings....

...Esso are currently running a promotion giving away tokens worth 2 pence of the price of a litre of petrol for every litre that you buy. I realise that this is just a ploy by Esso to capitalise on the current climate and get more people through the door, but to be honest, I don't really care who supplies my petrol, it is the price that is the important thing, and this saves me £1 on each tank of petrol, which isn't going to buy me that Lear Jet, but I would rather the money was in my pocket. So if you fancy saving yourself a wee bit of cash, take a trip to Esso!...

...I have found a website, this being www.petrolbusters.com. This site aims to list the petrol prices at the pumps in your locality. Its very easy to use, too. You type your postcode in first. Then you set a travel limit as to how far you are willing to travel. From this information the website finds the petrol prices in your area and compares them to the average price of petrol across. You would normally have to pay for this service but, since it supports the Dump the Pump campaign, you can get a one-day password at www.dumpthepump.co.uk for free. As far as I can tell the site is regularly updated so is pretty accurate and a good way to save yourself those crucial few pence on each litre of fuel. Why not give it a go....
