...After having two Renaults for many years, I changed to a Peugeot for the first time ever. After an initial period of discomfort, until I managed to get the best driving position, I have found the car most comfortable. The dashboard is just right, with not too much information and easily readable dials. The computer console at first is confusing, but after running through with the handbook, it is quite logical and easy to use. I would not (like one of the other reviewers) even try to use the basic settings whilst driving. The controls are all to hand, and, once familiar with the stalks and buttons, the controls are logical and easy to use. The space in the car is excellent, much roomier than the Laguna. ...This is my own personal opinion and does not intend to infringe upon the legal rights of peugeot to maintain their own view of how they think their vechicle should be described. when I last looked this was a free country so i am going to say what I think anyway, protocol, protocol protocol. I have been loaned one of these as a hire car after driving citroens for the past few years, I expected peugeot to have advanced their suspension forward to a more comfortable ride. the 407 SW is very noisey with road noise penetraiting the cockpit at an unbelieveable rate. the tyre pressures are monitered by a computer and must be maintained at 2.6 bar which is around 40psi if not the computer keeps flashing a message in front of the driver warnning of a puncture some where on the car, it dosent tell you which wheel has the offending tyre so...

The Drive of Your Life ?

Advantages: Great Specification as standard, looks amazing, good size, easy to drive
Disadvantages: Requires frequent replacement of wear and tear parts, poor front and rear visibility

This is based mainly on my personal views on the car as a Ciao review should be! In October 2002 hubby and I bought our first car - a little Peugeot 106 - it was the bog standard basic model with no extras, and the only feature was its power steering. Our car did us very well and took us over 60,000 miles. ...Wow!! What a great car! I have had it just over a year now & covered 40,000 miles. It is a company car which I had a choice what to pick. 3 cars were in the running, Volvo V50, Honda Accord & the 407SW. I liked (& still do) the Volvo but previous constant appalling service of my old V40 by my local Volvo dealers meant unfortunately the V50 was a non-runner. The Honda is a great car...but ugly!! Sorry, but it IS UGLY!! So, I was left with a great looking car made by Peugeot. Well, the car just says 'buy me!'...'RIDE ME!' I had to have it although I had my reservations about driving a Peugeot. Would it be unreliable? Would it handle like a boat? Would the dealers be worse than the Volvo dealers?? I took the plunge & ordered the 407SW SE with the luxury pack & 136HDI diesel. I added xenon lights & the JBL hifi as options...

For 07 (407), a decent Pug!

Advantages: strong engine, comfortable 4 seater, good boot space, plenty of gadgets, quite economical, nice looks
Disadvantages: no real involvement, not exciting,

...We've had one of these for the past couple of years. It's always performed solidly if not inspirationally. Its shown itself to be reliable and comfortable. Perhaps biggest disappointment is its lack of personality though. Our 407 is a black model with the full colour sat nav. It has the grey cloth interior which we decided we wanted rather than the leather. From the outside, the car looks great. When we got it, there were very few on the roads of the Northeast and it stood out well. The engine has lots of power and some excellent mid range grunt. Although like most diesels it sounds like a tractor. The engine has never given any cause for concern though, Its always started first time and always been powerful enough for day-to-day use. Economy wise it is not as good as we would have expected but will turn out around 35...

Advantages: Distinctive, good looks, great diesel engines
Disadvantages: Less room in rear and boot than other similar sized cars

...Most people will be familiar with the 407 by now, primarily due to the striking front end. That's right, the one that looks like a smiling mouth coming towards you in your rear mirror or on the other side of the road. The style is more conventional the further back you go but still retains a look which should remain up to date for a good few years. This is the first Peugeot I have owned and so far I have no major complaints. I must say however that having had an Audi A6 prior to this, I was a little disappointed at the overall feel of the car initially. This is to be expected however as they are different classes of car. Great looks, poor economy

...I fell in love with the 407 as soon as I saw it and got a great price on an ex-demonstration SV 2.2 4dr automatic. When its working well, its a pleasure to drive. But I have been plagued with recurrent 'minor problems'. First I'll mention the good things. The climate control is a treat - it can be set to disperse the air so its not blowing right in your face. There are separate temperature controls for driver and passenger, although I tend to disable this function. Everything is controlled by a stylish on-board computer, which keeps track of every aspect of the car. And a full diagnostic can be run at the press of a button. The interior is spacious and well-built, with none of the cheap plastic which seems to be everywhere these days. Advantages: Very spacious; Looks and feels 'sporty'
Disadvantages: Not very economical on short journeys

We looked at lots of different models of cars before buying the mazda (honda accord, peugeot 407, toyota avensis etc), but the mazda seemed to have the nicest look and was by far the most spacious, especially boot space. The main disadvantage with this car is the petrol consumption on small journeys, although on longer runs it is not so bad. Sorry, I am not able to quote the fuel consumption figures, but all I can say is that on the 'around town' driving, it seems that I am forever putting petrol into the tank, although I have to admit, that I never ' fill the tank fully', I tend to put £15 / 20 in at a time. However, on a recent journey to Wales, nearly £60 worth of petrol did about 450 miles. Although we have been pleased with the car, we are selling it, as we now have a baby and need to economise.
