Dealing with the highly provocative subject of homosexuality and AIDS, Philadelphia does an excellent job of disbanding many of the myths surrounding both of the subjects. Not only does Philadelphia tell a powerful story of injustice, it is also a beautifully shot film, which has many scenes which will tug at your heart strings. It also allowed Tom Hanks to demonstrate that he was more than capable of performing serious roles as he had previously been better known for his comedy roles. There were some critics who suggested that Hanks was not convincing as a homosexual, what did they expect a bloke wearing lipstick, lycra and high heals. I am sure most people are familiar with the kraft Philadelphia Television advert from a few years ago which I will not bother talking about in too great detail as it showed a beautiful female sitting down on a Sun Bed ouside on a warm summer's day looking to enjoy herself by eating the original version of Philadelphia spread. So here I am now reviewing kraft's extra Light Spread. I am thinking to myself, what would the Television advert look like now. This part of the opinion is where it shall end. Philadelphia Fan!!

Advantages: Taste great, ok for calories, great snack food
Disadvantages: Sometimes the 'dippers' can be too large to dip

Advantages: Strong performance by Hanks
Disadvantages: Banderas poorly cast

...This film stars Tom Hanks in his first serious role. He was previously known for his comedy movies, Big, Splash etc, so it was a surprise to see him in something this serious. He plays a man fired from his job for having HIV. This was a really serious issue when the film was new, and it turned a few heads, now however this type of movie is more common, so it suffers as a result. Antonia Banderas co-stars as Hanks gay lover, he was never really convincing in the part, but maybe that's because I remember him best in Desperado, as the Mexican with the gun in the guitar case! All in all it's not a bad film, with Hanks putting in a superb performance, and the sountrack was pretty good too....

Advantages: Very good film dealing with the prejudices of how people with Aids or HIV are treated.
Disadvantages: Very sad film.

...This is a film where Tom Hanks stars as a brilliant lawyer who is gay and has Aids. He does not tell his employers, but when they find out they fire him and make out that he is incompetent at his job. He subsequently takes them to Court even though they are a powerful law firm. The story covers how Tom seeks the help of another lawyer and eventually they become friends. It goes into the law on how people should not be penalised for their illness. In the end he wins his court battle and receives millions off the law firm. Due to the fact that he has Aids though his condition deteriorates and he sadly dies. At the end of the film it shows you a quick flick through his life and this is emotional....

Philadelphia, New-York's under-rated sibbling.

Advantages: So much to do in this great city
Disadvantages: Only Ba fly direct from heathrow.

...Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love is in my opinion one of the best cities to visit in the USA. It is situated on the Delaware river, right next door to New-Jersey and just 90 miles from New-York. Between 1790 and 1800 Philadelphia was the capital city of the USA and is steeped in American History with a multitude of places to visit. The skyline of the downtown area (known locally as 'centre city') is so similar to Canary Wharf in london's East End that on my first visit on looking out of my hotel window on Benjamin Franklyn Boulevard I thought I was back home. Part of the downtown area is dominated by the Old arts district which comprises of the 45 acre Independance Park where you can find The Liberty Bell exhibition and Independance Hall, (where the American constitution was drafted and signed). ...runs through it. The city itself is great for shopping and hanging out (esp. Rittenhouse Square, and the Old part of the city. The usual touristy things are there such as Independance Hall, Liberty Bell, City Hall & the Art Museum. There's a huge variety of restaurants and the city is also very gay friendly. A really cool place to go and see a film is 'The Ritz at the Bourse' which is very close to Independance Hall. If you have access to a car, drive out to the King of Prussia Mall, which is huge and you can spend all day there shopping. Philadelphia is about 1 hour West of Atlantic City, 2 hours South of New York and 2 Hours North of Washington - The train system is great (air conditioned, not usually very crowded and its very cheap compared to Britain).
