Advantages: Original and interesting
Disadvantages: Could be hard to follow for younger children.

...Philip Ridley was my favourite author when i was small. MY sister read me 'Mercedes Ice' when i was about 5 and I fell in love with it. I'm now 18 and that battered much-loved book is still on my bookshelf... Except now it is accompanied by every other Philip Ridley book, Including Mighty Fizz Chilla. The story is about a young boy called Milo Kick. Something happened to Milo (that nobody knows about but him) that cause him to transform from the perfect son to a difficult little monster practically overnight. His despairing mother sends him away to stay with a family friend. While there Milo becomes obsessed with the story of the mysterious Captain Jellicoe. But I cant say much more without it getting very complicated and possibly spoiling the story! For anybody who has previously read a Philip Ridley book, this one is...

Disadvantages: NOT MUCH FEATURES.

Advantages: Adventure, Intruige and Fantasy in his books.
Disadvantages: Not all his books are of a high standard.

Advantages: Some novel ideas
Disadvantages: Mixed in with some cliches

...After years of writing for television and radio, Philip Palmer has switched to novel writing and has landed himself in the science fiction genre for his debut release, "Debatable Space". Being such a popular genre, it's difficult to find anything new to say, so to stand out any new writer has to have something different. Palmer has managed that, but only in part. Firstly, he manages to surprise by making a hero out of a space pirate. This isn't a unique idea, as it's something that Ben Bova has done and the central character in Piers Anthony's "Bio of a Space Tyrant" series started off as a space pirate.
