...The philips 850 AT is by far the best DVD player i have seen. I have viewed films through other DVD'S and this has the best picture and sound quality. It comes with very easy to use instructions and these also guide you through the easy steps of installation. The remote control is very easy to use and this also described in the instructions. It is a great design one of the best i have seen from philips, it is slimline so fits into any space above your T.V set.Overall i would give the philips 850 AT 9 out of 10.... Read review

...I bought this DVDR last week to replace my Philips DVD player. The set up is quick. The instructions are of course rubbish on horrible re-cycled paper. But Philips can be e-mailed and they respond quite quickly. The only problem is with the Monitor/TV/DVD buttons. You really have no idea where you are! Apart from that the picture quality is superb. The timer function is almost identical to my Philips VCR as is the layout of the remote. The fast forward is a bit iffy, as a quick press takes you forward a chapter (5 mins on auto chaptering) and you have to hold it down to engage 4X, 8 X and 32X. The other way round would have made more sense. I have daisey chained my Freeview to VCR to Satelite to DVDR to TV Ext2. It all works! The UHF goes into the Freeview then the DVDR and then to the TV. ...This is the new Phillips DVD player to replace the clunky old 710 that had the drive noise fault. It looks far better and the drive is centre mounted. The graphics menu is updated to that of the 750 and includes 3D Surround Sound from just two speakers. Sound and picture quality are excellent and it has a good parental control system. This new model has picture zoom, DTS & Truesurround. Unlike the old 710 it has both optical and digital outs. Compatability is great - it plays all discs extremely well and doesnt have problems with disc formats like other makes of player. The remote control looks neat (if a little small) and in a nutshell - the player has all the features of a classier, more expensive player but at the budget price. With a brand name like Phillips to boot - you can't go wrong with a 711 !... Read review

...This is a short review of the Philips DVD723. After a lot of researching I bought the Philips DVD723 DVD player for Christmas 2002. I have never had any problems with it! It has played all of my DVDs to a superb standard! The DVD player is cheap and stylish. It has all the functions of most DVD players and is very easy to use. The remote is the same for most Philips machines which is self explanatory as each button is clearly labelled. The only buttons you may confuse are the fast forward/rewind with the chapter forward/back. You will soon be aware of which is which. The sound quality is crisp and the picture quality is also of the same, high standard. The product is also able to play CD's and other media which I haven’t got round to yet. ...I was looking for a dvd player to take while travelling abroad. The philips DCP range was actually quite new and had only been out a couple of months. In addition this bay lets the IPOD classic integrate as part of the unit and is flush so you can't tell. when you are not using the IPOD docking you can store the remote there. The remote is very handy and perfectly sized with the same functions as you would have in a normal DVD player The quality is as good as any normal TV/dvd combo so there is no compromise on the viewing experience. I spent all my time in airport watching my home tv shows. The speakers are really good too and do not compromise the viewing experience at all It is a fantastic unit for travelling and I highly rate it, is tough enough to take knocks while travelling but treat with care... ...::::INTRODUCTION:::: I was origionally looking for a Philips DVD Player but decided "why not get a recorder instead to replace the old VCR?", so i set off to the shops, went in ASDA and seen this stylish little machine on the shelf, picked it up and went to the till to purchase it! It only cost £98 ;-) ::::SETTING IT UP:::: The Words "Easy Peasy" comes to mind when setting up this Recorder/Player. The manual isn't at all confusing (although it doesn't state how long warranty is, but ASDA do a year warranty anyway and you can ring Philips if you really want to find out!). Switch off all your equitment, choose a connection mehthod (i went for Scart from Sky Box into The Recorder and then from Recorder to TV), then set it up using the on screen instructions and wooolah! ...I picked this player up for under £200 and it performs very well. I was looking for a quality DVD at a bargain price and this fits the bill very well. As you would expect from Philips both picture and sound are of a very high quality and the build is solid. Coupled with my Dolby Digital TV it provides an effective home cinema. A point to note here is that it doesn't have an integrated Dolby Digital Decoder so you will need a separate decoder if you want to enjoy this superior sound format. Another gripe is the fiddly remote and on-screen menu system. On a more positive note the styling is pleasant with a clear and easy to read display. All in all a good player for the price.... ...quality pseudo-HD picture, but the slowness of operation when changing disks or media type is quite frustrating. The machine also goes through frequent phases of refusing to respond to the remote controller, and has to be switched off and rebooted to get it working again. Bizarrely, the designers have not fitted an optical sound input, which means that many users will have to go to the trouble and expense of buying an adapter to convert the Dolby digital sound signal from their Sky box if they want to get digital surround sound through the Philips system Philips system. The instruction manual repeatedly implies that the scart socket can be used to input a Dolby Digital surround signal, but this is totally incorrect and misleading, and frankly makes you wonder if anyone at Philips knows what they're talking about. ...Hi All I was looking at all the reveiws for phillips and was suprised with some of them as phillips has come a long way in the dvd world. This player is the nuts, point blank i am very happy that i brought this product so i will say a little more- I used to spend hours and hours downloading films and TV series but not no more!!!! This Player does more than what you could imagine and saves time for the consumer. Stargate is one of my fav shows and the amount of hours i used to spend converting all the TV shows onto dvd format but stop press; this player has DIVX built in and most of the websites i have been to looking for this tv show puts Stargate in DIVX format. The player will play all the downloaded programs with no trouble. Not only have i saved hours of burning from dvix to dvd or even into mpeg i just download in the same... Read review
