The DVD player that delivers without hassle
Review of Philips DVP520 by
yunken
Advantages: So simple to instal and use
Disadvantages: Short on features for techies
...This DVD player from Philips is a joy!
Starting with the performance I wanted, DVDs on my screen, it delivers the goods and with all the features you would expect from a DVD player, Play, Select scenes, fast and slow forward and reverse and access to special features.
Oh and did I mention Dolby Digital sound.
Now it's a bit limited when it comes to playing CDs but then I've got a CD player so I don't need that.
What I did need was the ease of installation, out of the box, plug in the wires, watch the movie, how easy can that be, brilliant.
And my installation is not normal, the DVP520 is connected to a PC, Video Recorder, HiFi and Freeview box so admittedly I have a bit of a rats nest of wires behind it but still it was a no problem installation and it works great.
It does play CDs but thats about it no where near the features I have...

THE PHILIP DVD WONDER MACHINE.
Review of Philips DVP520 by
apatra
Advantages: LASTS LONG WITH BRIGHT PICTURES.
Disadvantages: SOME TIMES DOES NOT READ DISK AND NOT ENOUGH FEATURES ON TECHIES.
...The Philip DVD DVP520 has served quite long in my household and still showing more promise on serving again. I will actually say that the electronic giants PHILIP brought about the innovation of the compact disk because they were the first to put the use of the compact into reality and I still hail them for that. This is a DVD that has a lot of functions and really excites me as a user.
It has a sharp vision and a beautiful colour that makes the picture bright and also with a screen menu. It is an easy to operate device and when you get it don't forget to read the manual very well because electronic products, is well understood when the manual is read very well and it also helps in some trouble shootings.
It also has numerous screen menus that enable you...

If it doesn't play it, its not worth watching.
Review of Philips DVP520 by
mrmessy2
Advantages: Small, streamline, easy to use, inexpensive, play everything - almost
Disadvantages: No Scart Cable provided, doesn't record, not multi region.
...I was lucky enough to obtain my first dvd player when they first came out. It was a Goodmans player, cost £150.00 from a toy shop of all places. Seven Years down the line, it is a hunk of junk. It doesn't play lots of DVD's, it was bulky and at times noisy. Time to buy a new player.
Having taken a trip down to places you would expect to find a dvd player, Comet, Curry's, Powerhouse etc, I found just what I was looking for in ASDA of all places.
It was a Philips (a good name) DVP520 DVD player, it was only 47.99 but most of all it looked really good, probably about the length and breadth of most dvd players, but it is less than 2 inches in height. You could post this thing through a long, narrow letterbox. It has a silver case with a black LCD facia.
What also sets this DVD player apart from others is that it will play almost any disc...

DVDtastic!
Review of Philips DVP520 by
drewboy
Advantages: Design, ease of use, multi format capabilities
Disadvantages: No scart lead provided, small buttons on remote, display too bright.
...Up until recently, I managed to go without buying a DVD player as each flatmate I have had has always come with one of these gizmos. However, now that I don't have one (I don't smell, honest!), I started to look around for a DVD player to accommodate my 300+ collection.
So, after deciding my criteria and ruling out a DVD recorder, I set about looking. Basically, I was looking to pay up to about £60 and would prefer it to be a quality brand that was small, sleek and good looking and it would need to have the ability to play MP3 and jpeg CD's.
Enter the Philips DVP520. Comfortably filling all of the above criteria, I was pleased to find it in my local ASDA for the rather good price of £49.99. So, I hurriedly bought the player and headed home to play with my new toy.
Good Things

As I said, it fitted my looks...

Hi DVD, Bye VHS, RIP Betamax
Review of Member Advice on DVD Players by
oblivious0r
Advantages: High Quality Picture, Audio, Special Features
Disadvantages: New Technology On The Way
.... The last time I went to Tesco I saw DVD players for £20 but they were by a less reputable brand than you'd expect. But even some of the best brand DVD players will be priced under £60 due to the amount of competition on the market right now. A brand like Philips or Sony probably some of the best electronics brands you can get retail their DVD players for under £50 with the "Philips DVP 520 DVD Player" for £49.99 on amazon while the "Sony DVP-PQ2 DVD Player" is £34.99 on amazon.
But price isn't always the main factor in your decision making in purchasing a DVD player, there are many ways in which you can watch DVD's, with a dvd player, with a portable dvd player, with your games console or on your personal computer. If you like playing games and watching DVDs then a good idea would be to get an Xbox or Ps2 but the Xbox will require you to buy...

The best picture
Review of Philips 36'' by
MARKSY
Advantages: Value for money, best picture
Disadvantages: not the best looking
...The 36" Philips Flat screen TV is in in my opinion the best in the range.
I stood in Selfridges and John Lewis for about 2 hours trying to decide which 36 inch had the best picture. The Hitachi was awful, the new Sony was also poor and far too expensive at about £2,500. It came down to the Philips and the Panasonic. The Panasonic looks better, but the Philips is cheaper, and has a clearer and brighter picture.
The on screen displays are great, the remote control is not amazing, but it does the job. Definitely the best value for money....

Philips Go Gear 1GB Audio/Video Player
Review of Philips GoGear SA5115 1 GB by
ICE-COLD
Advantages: Easy To Use Menu, High Video Quality
Disadvantages: None
...Philips Go Gear 1GB Audio/Video Player
The Philips Go Gear Audio/Video player is a great product with many features. Transferring music to your Philips Go Gear is so simple. First you have to install windows media player on your computer. Now you've installed windows media player you can transfer all of your favourite songs to your Philips Go Gear. As well as transferring music you can also transfer videos to your Go Gear. The video quality is excellent and probably the best feature about this Product. The Go Gear player its self is very light and easy to use. The looks and feel of this Go Gear are also excellent. The design of a product is always very important and this Go Gear looks smashing. The Go Gear is very durable and practically unbreakable. You can also store photos on the Go Gear which is always handy. There is not much you...

Advantages: Slimline, great design

...The philips 850 AT is by far the best DVD player i have seen. I have viewed films through other DVD'S and this has the best picture and sound quality.
