A close shave for the Philips HQ 40 shaver
Advantages: Compact, cheap
Disadvantages: not the closest cut, a bit slow
...-- Background --
I have always been one for a wet shave, I've always believed the sharpness of a true razor gives much better cuts than the rotating blades of an electric shaver. I received the HQ 40 as a birthday present from the wife so I felt I had to give it a fair crack.
-- In the box --
The shaver comes in a nicely compacted box which simply contains the shaver, some instructions and perhaps surprisingly the two AA batteries that are required to operate the shaver. Fit the batteries into place and away you go. The shaver is no more than 4 or 5 inches in height so would be ideal for carrying around in a pocket if you ran out of time for your early morning shave. The contrast of the colours is also a nice feature, the front of the shaver is predominantly red with a touch of grey which then runs all down the rear...

Philips Cool Skin Shaver HQ6707
Advantages: Use in the shower
Disadvantages: Two Pin Plug on charger
...A really great shaver with super results. After recently leaving the Royal Navy I have been looking forward to using an electric shaver again and saying goodbye to my trusty Gillette Fusion.
The very first thing I noticed when I started using my old electric shaver again was the results between a wet and dry shave. Philips had the answer with the Cool Skin HQ6707.
A water proof electric shaver which you can use your favourite Nivea shaving gel with and even be used in the shower .
The shaver has three rotary heads which can move independently of each other. The face of the shaver also pivots to fit the contours of your face
This is the cheapest of the Cool Skin line of shavers, the other versions boasting a slightly longer battery life and faster charge time.
All the Cool Skin range have built in gel dispensers. The more...

Philips HQ40 Battery Shaver
Advantages: It's a good all round battery shaver
Disadvantages: None
...Discovering on holiday that I had forgotten my ?wet-razor?, I decided to purchase a cheap, battery-powered shaver. Faced with vast array on sale I bought the cheapest ? the Philips HQ40.
?Well, it will suffice until I get back home? I reasoned.
But after a few days of use I was pleasantly surprised, and found it to be a very good shaver indeed.
Straight from the box the shaver was ready to use. It comes complete with two AA batteries, a small double-ended cleaning brush and an information sheet explaining how to fit the batteries, how to clean the shaving heads, advice on shaving-head replacement and something that really surprised me ? a helpful little tip on how to achieve a close shave.
Using the shaver is simplicity itself. Remove the plastic shaver-head protector; push up the little white button above the Philips logo...

My new Shaver! (Philips HQ 6675 Reflex )
Advantages: Cheap, strong.
Disadvantages: Hard noise!
...I received the Philips HQ 6675 Reflex for my birthday (last year) !
In the box I found the next items:
- The device itself
- A piece of paper with some advertising about extra products, and about the fact that for optimal shaving results you should replace the shaving heads every 2 years. (type: HQ55 Super Reflex)
- A power cord, unfortunately I didn't receive a device that holds the shaver for me and gives it power. I just began shaving, so I don't need to recharge the battery yet.
- A big piece of paper (2.5 times an A-4) with guarantee and service information.
- Owner's manual. Its a small book with on the first page eight different languages that you can choose. ( English, German, French, Dutch, Spanisch, Italian, Portuguese and Turkisch .)
- A little black brusher with long hairs on it.
Every 2 weeks you have to remove...

Philips HQ6707 Wet / Dry Shaver
Advantages: Cheap, Top Quality, Durable
Disadvantages: None that come to mind. The 2 pin plug may annoy some but not me.
...I recently purchased this shaver on the back of the reviews it received here as I did not want to pay Ģ75+.
I picked one up for Ģ40 and have to say its been fantastic. It can be used wet or dry, provides a close and comfortable shave, and thanks to the cool gel system, the irriation that can come with electric shavers was no where to be seen. You get 2 gel packs and 2 moisturiser packs when purchased, personally I prefered to use the moisturiser but each to there own.
Once these have run out they are easy to purchase online (www.shavers.co.uk) and are with you within a couple of days which is fine.
The shavers has 3 rotory heads than move independantly allowing every part of your face to be shaved to the same level. So you're not left with any untidy tufts that can't be reached.

Philips HQ7120 electric shaver - smooth operator
Advantages: smooth shaver which can be cleaned under the tap
Disadvantages: Can't be used directly off the mains
...Having had a bit of a dud with my last Phillips shaver (Phillishave 5806), I was a bit wary about this model although,to be fair to the brand, I've been using Philips electric shavers for many years and that's been the first time I've regretted the purchase.
Like the 5806 and similar Philips models over the past four years or so, the HQ 7120 has a reflex shaving system in which the three individual floating heads adjust to the contours of your face and neck. This really does enable a smoother shave and, for me that's the big plus with this model. The other nice touch is the fact that you can rinse the blades and wash out the chambers under the tap, hitherto the preserve of much more expensive models (I bought mine from Boots for fifty pounds). Philips reckon it's the dual blade system that provides the smoother shave - works for me...

Philips shaver
Advantages: Stylish, new technology
Disadvantages: expensive
...Does everything it says on the tin and I'm pleased with the performance of the shaver. I agree with the other reviews, especially how quiet it is. Delivery took 2 days so not as fast as some say, but still excellent.
My only minor gripe is that where my old philips model had a thin two pin plug this one has a (small) transformer at the plug end. This means that I can no longer plug the shaver. I've had Philishave shavers most of my shaving life and always the top of the range model, but this HQ9190 is by far the best yet. What a close shave! I use the normal setting and use only hot water to rinse after each shave and the performance is stunning, not even a hint of a rash, very very comfortable. So quiet and smooth, it really does get the hairs that other shavers miss.
There are no akward places now, not the neck or even under...

Excellent mid-range Philips shaver
Advantages: Close, comfortable shave, easy to clean, good battery life, very durable
Disadvantages: Replacement cutting heads are expensive
...The Philips HQ8160 is one of the mid-range electric shavers in the Speed XL series and I have been using it for the last 2 years. Before this I had a much older Philips shaver that had lasted 10 years and the battery finally stopped holding its charge so I decided to upgrade to a newer model.
Product design
The shaver has 3 cutting heads which move independently to match the contours of your face as you shave. My previous shaver was similar but the heads had less movement so I noticed the improvement in comfort whilst shaving. This is a definite advantage of the Speed-XL shaving heads compared with the older ones as they allow up to 50% more shaving surface.
There is also a trimmer on the back which is useful for shaping and trimming sideburns but its performance is quite limited so I do not use it very often.
The Lithium...

Philips HQ 7782 COOL SKIN
Advantages: Nice and close
Disadvantages: Where to buy the sachets.
...Well I needed a new electric shaver, I do prefer wet shaving but with one thing and another it is not practical.
Been using a Remington shaver for a few years, it was ok, but needed new heads, and at nearly Ģ30.00 I thought I would go looking for a new shaver.
I was taken by the Phillips Cool Skin range, which allow the user to use wet or dry, with the added bonus of a built in Moisturising shaving system.
I opted for the HQ7782 the top of the range coolskin shaver.
Its cordless with a charger base that plugs into your shaver socket in the bathroom. It has a handy LCD display to show how much battery is left and when to charge.
Its also easy to clean, after each shave wash it under the hot tap for about 30secs, and its clean, they recommend once a week to clean the heads off with the supplied brush.
The thing Iike...

HQ6707? Not the Philips with the Highest IQ!
Advantages: Rechargable, Wet/dry shaver, cream dispenser, good shave
Disadvantages: Doesn't have battery indicator lights, long charging time
...My husband has very sensitive skin, and has never been able to use any blade razors because of this. In addition, he has a fairly tough beard, which only exacerbates the problem. He's always liked Phillips shavers, and over the years we must have bought him about eight different models. We were thrilled when they started producing rechargeable models, and when they came out with ones that dispensed cream with the shave, we thought we had reached shaver nirvana. For some time my husband enjoyed his Philips HQ5620, but when it started to die, I decided I should get him a new Philips for his birthday. The requirements we had were that the new shaver would dispense moisturizing cream with his shave, be rechargeable and be waterproof so he could clean it under the tap (or use in the shower, if he so wished). After looking at several...
