Reviews of philips hts
A flawed offering!
Review of Philips HTS 6510 by
databust
Advantages: Doesn't require separate rear speakers for surround sound.
Disadvantages: No optical sound input. Booming base speaker that can't be toned down.
...quality pseudo-HD picture, but the slowness of operation when changing disks or media type is quite frustrating. The machine also goes through frequent phases of refusing to respond to the remote controller, and has to be switched off and rebooted to get it working again.
Bizarrely, the designers have not fitted an optical sound input, which means that many users will have to go to the trouble and expense of buying an adapter to convert the Dolby digital sound signal from their Sky box if they want to get digital surround sound through the Philips system Philips system. The instruction manual repeatedly implies that the scart socket can be used to input a Dolby Digital surround signal, but this is totally incorrect and misleading, and frankly makes you wonder if anyone at Philips knows what they're talking about. This is a digrace, and many...

Good for the money.
Review of Philips HTS 3357 by
OwenClark
Advantages: Digital Optical In (Coax), Good Speakers, Easy Setup, Nice Upscaling Playback.
Disadvantages: Coax Digital In, Disc Tray is a bit flimsy.
...A good little system which gives you everything you could want from a DVD based HTS at the moment. Speakers give good sound, the upscaling is good and contrary to what the previous reviewer says it plays all kinds of burnt disks (CD & DVD), maybe it simply didn't like the ones he was using but I can confirm it works with DVD+R (dual and single layer).
My only critism of this unit is that it's tray seems a little flimsy and flexes a bit if you push it in rather than using the button (so don't do that).
Otherwise setup is about as clear and simple as you can get and it's a nice unit.
One thing to be wary of is that this unit's Digital-In is Coaxial rather than the more standard Optical (often called TOS Link). You CAN connect it to other digital audio devices but you will probably need a optical to coaxial adapter to do so (get 'em from...

DTS and DivX for under £100? Buy it!
Review of Philips HTS 3100 by
cactuscake
Advantages: DTS, Dolby 5.1, Dolby Pro Logic II, DivX playback
Disadvantages: No SPDIF inputs/outputs
...I bought this when it was £120 and I still think it's worth that now even though I can see the price has dropped now. This is a quality sound and theater system from Philips an offers excellent value for money.
I was attracted to this model as it offered DivX playback as well as DTS surround sound (not two things you're likely to see on the same disc but both come with their own merits). The DTS sound is amazing, I spent several minutes just switching 5.1 sound and DTS just to hear the difference.
It also plays Dolby Pro Logic II from freeview broadcasts and includes a very clean sounding radio receiver. The speaker cables are nice and long and well insulated so they don't get damaged if stepped on.
The only complaint I have is that they didn't include 5.1 channel inputs as well as outputs, I would have preferred a system with SPDIF...

Fujitsu P42HTS51ES
Review of Fujitsu P42HTS51ES by
ftobaby
Advantages: Brill pic, contrast. Fab colour. sleek stylish finish.
Disadvantages: heavy so choose supports carefully and check cable lengths
...Hi
Bought this product a few days ago and totally delighted. Have had plasmas before (panasonic, phillips, sony) and have had to mess about with hd cables etc.Gives a brilliant picture quality no flicker (which I did get from the panasonic) and superb contrast. The colour is wicked. If you are choosing to wall mount do it carefully - worth paying more as its really heavy and can easily look off centre if you buy something less substaintial. Kicks out a fair amont of heat. Dead easy to install but check yr cable length cos you may need additional. . Maybe we could see these coming down a little in price as I,ve heard theyre moving a main depot from europe to the uk. Sexy to look at in silver or black. Very happy - would totally recommend....

A great philips home cinema dvd player
Review of Philips HTS 3115 by
tomo359
Advantages: Quite alot, HDMI port, colour coded speaker system, good remote control
Disadvantages: Only some minor points in the review. Such as cables can be hard to unplug.
...your room they are not noticeable.
The dvd player itself is nice looking with a modern design. On the back it has one scart connecter, one HDMI connecter and all the speaker ports. When you turn the player on it says PHILIPS on the digital screen on the front then allows you to open the dvd drive. You cannot open the disk drive as soon as you turn it on. It takes about 3 seonds, but this is nothing bad. Also on the front are simple play, stop and skip left and right buttons, and a very nice to use volume control. There is also a USB port which is a nifty thing to have if your like me and you like to watch shows you have on your computer on a big tv screen in surround sound. All you have to do is upload your files to a USB flash drive, plug it into the dvd player and on the remote select dvd/usb to select the usb. It will then show a screen...

Virtual 3d Sound Virtually Perfect
Review of Philips HTS 6510 by
fightgear
Advantages: No wires to rear speakers, superb sound quality, lots of connections, looks stunning
Disadvantages: attracts and shows dust on black surface, slow warm up
...could have imagined. The virtual surround works really well and the different settings (drama, concert, action, etc) all have a distinct difference. At the same time we bought this, we also bought the Panasonic HD DVD player which so far (as a result of the Sky HD and the Philips) has never been used!
Setting it up is incredibly easy. There are ample sockets and connections (even an I-pod connector on the front) meaning you can connect several devices. The remote is far easier than most to get the hang of. It is easily loud enough for any room and when working with a Dolby surround-sound movie, can shake the house. We use it as the main dvd player in the house as it is so easy to use and the picture quality is great.
The only minor (and I mean minor) criticisms we'd point at it are that the black surface shows dust and fingerprints very...

The best picture
Review of Philips 36'' by
MARKSY
Advantages: Value for money, best picture
Disadvantages: not the best looking
...The 36" Philips Flat screen TV is in in my opinion the best in the range.
I stood in Selfridges and John Lewis for about 2 hours trying to decide which 36 inch had the best picture. The Hitachi was awful, the new Sony was also poor and far too expensive at about £2,500. It came down to the Philips and the Panasonic. The Panasonic looks better, but the Philips is cheaper, and has a clearer and brighter picture.
The on screen displays are great, the remote control is not amazing, but it does the job. Definitely the best value for money....
