Philips 30" LCD Television
Advantages: Brilliant picture and outstanding appearance
Disadvantages: No assurance on how long it will last
...asked how long an LCD screen could be expected to last, the customer service person said it was unknown as they are just newly out on the market.
As Philips themselves do not know the expectancy of this model I have decided not to accept a replacement and have gone for a convential widescreen telelvision until the LCD models are more fully tested.
This is only my personal view on this particular model and although I could have been just unlucky I would advise anyone who might be thinking of buying this Philips 30" LCD to ask as many questions regarding their durability as I don't think anyone knows and time will tell as to how they will stand up to regular use.
I will be sorry to see it go as I was so impressed with the quality of the picture but at the end of the day, I did not want to have a television that had to be...

Really BIG lava lamp.
Advantages: Huge. Soothing. Good value.
Disadvantages: Takes forever to heat up.
...A lava lamp is, in principle, very simple. It consists of a lamp, which heats up a glass bulb filled with a waxy solid and a liquid. These cannot mix together and must have very similar densities. As the solid heats up, its density is lowered, so it rises. This cools it down and it then falls to the bottom of the lamp, creating a strangely soothing effect. In practice, making one yourself would involve messing about with expensive and perhaps flammable chemicals, so I wouldn't bother trying. It is much easier just to buy one yourself.
The Giant Grande Lava Lamp comes in two colours yellow and blue or yellow and violet. It is truly enormous at 27" and is guaranteed to be a focal point in your room. It is not called "giant" and "grande" for nothing!
My lamp is a yellow and blue model. Although the product description says "yellow...

Philips Hopper SV20 A Function Over Form Projector
Advantages: Silent operation, good speaker, very well constructed.
Disadvantages: Heavy at 5kg, and very bulky.
...that can even cope with bass! There is a bass controller in the menu, so you can adjust the level of bass, and the sound is quite impressive.
The projector's specifications claim that it can reach an image size of 6.4m. I think this is a bit optimistic, I think that 3m at most would be bout right for this projector, which is a very good size nevertheless. The average user would use a 100" screen which is 2.54m so this is more than capable.
To explain my next point we have to look at the brand name. When asked about Philips projectors people will usually think of the BSure range. These projectors where renowned for being silent when in operation. You literally couldn't hear them running when they were new. One of the major problems with projectors is the noise the fans make due to the speed they haveto run at just to cool the bulb...

Philips 42" 42PFL5603D LCD HDTV
Advantages: Excellent picture, good sound, impressive screen
Disadvantages: Speakers at the back
...excellent for an LCD - and on the HD channels it is simply astounding. The screen is big enough for the football lover in the house to be able to block out absolutely everthing else for a total sporting experience.
The sound is also good, but the speakers are at the back of the TV - is that normal nowadays? I'm a bit worried when it's turned up in case it's bothering the adjoining neighbours. I would prefer the sound to be coming out the front.
We have also watched some band we filmed live ourselves with a camera and put onto DVD and the quality is really very good.
When we first got the TV we didn't know about the Dynamic Contrast and thought there was something wrong as the light levels seem to adjust ever time the picture moves to a new scene and this can be rather irritating once you start to notice it - and you will.

Artistic Brilliance (LC-A Deluxe Pack)
Advantages: Small, Artistic, Unique, Original, Manual Functions
Disadvantages: Russian Manual, Expensive
...The Lomography LC-A is a compact Russian 35mm camera. It is small, black and of medium weight. It features adjustable aperture, focus and ASA settings along with a close-able lens cover. The LC-A's main appeal comes from the unique quality of the Minitar lens, and the camera has been promoted heavily through the Lomography Society International.
I bought an LC-A deluxe pack from the Lomography store about one and a half years ago. I then proceeded to place the camera and equipment on a shelf whilst i argued with my conscience over whether i should have paid £200 or not. After a little while i decided that whatever the cost, I had forked out for it and i should use it.
--------------------------------------------------
The entire bundle included the following:
- Lomo LC-A camera
- "Lomographiere" hardcover book
- Two 35mm...

Philips Ambilight LCD - PHI-37PF9731D
Advantages: Connectivity
Disadvantages: Slow when powered on
...media setup.
The built in Memory Card Reader is a great feature too, to share photies on a large screen with family / friends
I don't use the standby feature on this TV as I have found it to switch itself on all by itself - this may not be a common problem but I haven't got round to reporting it - yet therefore would be interesting to hear from anyone who has experienced the same issue. But as I'm not using the standby feature I do find its a little slow when powering up.
Upgrading the firmware which is downloadable from Philips website on this machine is a walk in the park - thanks to the USB port. Plug in power on and it does the rest by itself.

Philips 42" LCD TV
Advantages: Easy set-up multi funtion control manuals cater for most languages
Disadvantages: None
...I bought this TV 4 weeks ago now and find it to be a pretty decent TV. I would give the picture quality 9/10 for digital and terrestrial TV channels unfortunately though I have not had a chance to test the High Definition picture quality yet. I would also give the sound 9/10 the virtual surround sound works quite well. On receiving the TV the packaging was excellent it was a case of pull the tabs and remove the stand, wall mounting brackets, instructions, and remote control from the top also the quick setup guide. It took less than 5 minutes to build the stand then it was just a case of removing the 2 plastic clips from the box, sliding the box up over the TV, lifting the TV onto the stand "this takes at least 2 people" and putting 4 screws into place to hold the TV to the stand. All this was achieved with a Phillips screwdriver...

Philips 26inch LCD- 26PF5521D
Advantages: Picture Quality, Sound, Design
Disadvantages: Remote is a little tricky to understand
...have many peripherals such as DVD players etc. The TV also has integrated free view, which is extremely beneficial if you do not have sky or cable. You can get over 30 free channels.
There are hardly any disadvantages to mention. The only one I have noticed is the remote can be a little tricky to understand. Overall this is a great LCD TV to buy, and in my opinion it is the best 26 inch LCD on the market.
So in conclusion-
Pros- Picture quality, Sound Quality, & Design
Cons- Remote is tricky to understand...
