portable dvd player 8-in dcp850 philips
Review of Philips DCP850 by
jupiter28
Advantages: quality of image is like watching normal tv/dvd, IPOD classic docking
Disadvantages: can't think of any
...I was looking for a dvd player to take while travelling abroad. The philips DCP range was actually quite new and had only been out a couple of months. In addition this bay lets the IPOD classic integrate as part of the unit and is flush so you can't tell. when you are not using the IPOD docking you can store the remote there.
The remote is very handy and perfectly sized with the same functions as you would have in a normal DVD player
The quality is as good as any normal TV/dvd combo so there is no compromise on the viewing experience. I spent all my time in airport watching my home tv shows. The speakers are really good too and do not compromise the viewing experience at all
It is a fantastic unit for travelling and I highly rate it, is tough enough to take knocks while travelling but treat with care...

Philips make personal sound good.
Review of Philips SBC HP 840 by
wrb1331
Advantages: Long lead 5 metres, great stereo wide range sound excellent, Philips cool.
Disadvantages: Looks big and silly away from home, but hey pretent to be a cyberman
...Very capable headphones, walking around Curries I found these with Frequency Range: 8-29,000 Hz and rather then opt for all singing and dancing headphones plus £40, I went for the mid range. I recommend this as it has never let me down and I use it regulary with the TV/laptop/DVD and portable CD player wilst decorating! It has given me years of trouble free phoning. I like the pull out option from lead from the headphones, instead of always taking them off as they are quite comfortable with the adjustable support. The do look abit cyberman from doctor who, I don't recommend using these as an option for portability for MP3's or cd players, I used it once in the garden and then wilst gardening/weeding and then thought hey they are a little bit silly looking, but hey the sound is good so excellent for me....

philips DVD 850 AT
Review of Philips DVD850AT by
mringsell
Advantages: Slimline, great design
Disadvantages: None
...The philips 850 AT is by far the best DVD player i have seen. I have viewed films through other DVD'S and this has the best picture and sound quality. It comes with very easy to use instructions and these also guide you through the easy steps of installation. The remote control is very easy to use and this also described in the instructions. It is a great design one of the best i have seen from philips, it is slimline so fits into any space above your T.V set.Overall i would give the philips 850 AT 9 out of 10....

A great DVD player
Review of Philips DVD955 by
Garza007
Advantages: Great digital quality pictures
Disadvantages: A bit pricey
...I have a Philips DVD-955 and I think that it is the ultimate video playback source for your Home Cinema. This sophisticated player delivers stunning digital video pictures, with digital multichannel sound, from revolutionary long-playing DVD-Video discs.
The digital pictures are crystal clear on your screen and the sound quality is stunning... This is definetly one of the best DVD players around... There are a wide range of functions, plus it not only plays DVD's, but it also plays VCD's and it can CD-R and CD-RW.
But the Philips DVD-955 doesn't come cheap, around £4,500, but it is definetly worth it... I would definetly recommend the Philip 955 to anyone who is looking for a DVD player that does it all, because this one certainly does......

A Philips DVDR for only £180 - WOW!
Review of Philips DVDR70 by
fivish
Advantages: Cost only £180 and its a Philips
Disadvantages: None.
...I bought this DVDR last week to replace my Philips DVD player.
The set up is quick.
The instructions are of course rubbish on horrible re-cycled paper.
But Philips can be e-mailed and they respond quite quickly.
The only problem is with the Monitor/TV/DVD buttons. You really have no idea where you are!
Apart from that the picture quality is superb.
The timer function is almost identical to my Philips VCR as is the layout of the remote.
The fast forward is a bit iffy, as a quick press takes you forward a chapter (5 mins on auto chaptering) and you have to hold it down to engage 4X, 8 X and 32X. The other way round would have made more sense.
I have daisey chained my Freeview to VCR to Satelite to DVDR to TV Ext2. It all works!
The UHF goes into the Freeview then the DVDR and then to the TV. That works too!
The DVDR audio o...

Philips Go Gear 1 GB
Review of Philips GoGear SA6015 1 GB by
Up-High-Down-Low
Advantages: High Quality Music Playback
Disadvantages: Video Quality Isnt Great
...Philips Go Gear 1 GB
Philips always aims to make their products easy and simple. With the Philips Go Gear they have achieved just that. With the Philips Go Gear you will have to use Windows Media Player to transfer files. In the past I have owned an iPod Nano and using iTunes to transfer music can be difficult if you're not that good with computers.
I love using my Philips Go Gear, as it is so portable. The player its self has a very simple design and the player is very durable. The menu is very simple and easy to understand. The video quality isn't excellent but is ok to watch. The music quality is very good and finding music is not a problem. Instead of browsing by song you can also browse by artist, album and much more.
You can even make a playlist with your favourite songs. The battery life is average. You can watch up to 4...

A good priced DVD player with region hacking codes
Review of Philips DVD710 by
johnnapig
Advantages: Great build quality, and region hacking too!
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little 'budget' for thos hi-fi specialists
...The Philips 710 DVD was my first venture intot he DVD stand-alone market. I had previously installed a DVD on my PC, but the quality was not what I was expecting and the whole experience was not really anything to write home about.
This machine makes DVD the format of the future. The simple control panel on the front of the black machine has access to all the basic play/skip/stop functions, and the accompanying remote control makes negotiating the menu system relatively simple.
The unit is of a sturdy build, and can comforatbly support a VCR and portable TV on top - the build quality is excellent with high quality comnponents used throughout. There are outputs for SCART and video as well as two audio for linking up to an amplifier. The 3d Surround Sound emulation is pretty good, although true surround sound can be achieved by linking...

Philips 5960 DVD player with DivX playback
Review of Philips DVD5960 by
Orrr83
Advantages: Stereo Sound output/ DivX Playback/USB compatible
Disadvantages: Slow Start up time
...I bought this DVD player after my previous DivX player died of exhaustion.
The box was easy enough to open, and there was no unnecessary packing or annoying polystyrene to cover my floor in. Batteries are included for the remote control, there is also a manual and quickstart guide. There is NO Scart cable in the box.
Setting up the player is as easy as it gets, plug it into the wall, and connect it to a TV through a Scart lead, and thats it.
Start up could be a little faster and takes a couple of seconds before you can open the disc drawer. Once started though I can't fault the player.
Sound and Standard Video output are good with no pauses or juttery motion no matter how much action is on the screen.
It also features HDTV upscaling, this shifts the output from the scart to the HDTV output port, having seen a demonstration...

combo-isation
Review of Philips JackRabbit 3 by
Gaz_23
Advantages: a REMOTE CONTROL!!!!!
Disadvantages: a bit slow when using usb 1.1
...Well this might be officially called the J32RWDV, but those crazy people at Philips have called this external USB 2.0 combo drive the ‘Jackrabbit’. Also, they have plastered the drive and box with zany pictures of a cartoon rabbit. Mad.
Now, the reason that you buy a combo drive is to get the fun of a CD-RW , with all the customized CD’s, and to also get the pleasure of a DVD-ROM drive, with all the DVD playing options. The problem with this is that a combo is usually very pricey, so most of us tend to just get lumped with two drives and keep the extra dosh. But, what happens when you need the CD-RW and DVD-ROM, but only have one drive bay? A combo, that’s the answer.
Now those people at Philips have decided it was time to give everyone out there a few added features to make it a whole load more fun to use this combo and to entice you...
