Wii Remote Controller

Advantages: Innovation, Responsiveness
Disadvantages: Price, Ease Of Use

...I purchased the Nintendo Wii after weeks of searching the internet for a shop that hadnt sold out and once i found one available i bought it immediately. The package came with Wii sports and a remote controller and i have to say that i was quite impressed. The controllers work well with the console and in particular with wii sports. The biggest issue that i have with the remote is the battery issue. Whilst the batteries do last a long time when installed, to keep replacing them costs a fortune. I also have had this problem with my xbox 360 wireless controllers and would recommend anybody who was buying the controllers to also consider a quick charge kit to accompany it. The unit is very responsive and works very well, this depends on where you put the sensor that is supplied with the wii so make sure that you read the manual carefully...

Philips Pronto Remote Control

Advantages: Get rid of that army of remotes you currently use
Disadvantages: A bit bulky and takes time to setup

...I have owned a Philips Pronto Remote for over 6 months now. So how good is it? The remote is physically bigger than I had expected. All the pictures you see are from above, but from the side it is wedged-shaped with a thickness at one end of about 20mm and at the other about 50mm. I bought the rechargable battery and docking station (an extra £50) but it is worth it. Changing batteries every 3 weeks is not fun. On this point, one problem that nearly everyone has is that sometimes the unit stops recharging and the battery runs itself down. I have found this is due to the contacts inside the battery housing bending down into the unit and so not making contact with the battery. worth being aware of anyway. So how does it perform? fantastic! You really need to use the PC software provided. It comes with a PC emulator, so even...

Good Box, Horrible Remote Control

Advantages: The box works well.
Disadvantages: The remote control doesn't.

...I like Philips stuff. I even like my new DRT 220 set top box. Although it's only a small, anonymous black block it does everything asked of it with good reception, nice clear menus, excellent automatic tuning etc etc. Basically, for a cheap piece of kit, it ticks all the boxes. Then, unfortunately, we have the remote control . I can only imagine that Philips were so pleased with the designers for fitting so much good stuff into a little black plastic block that it sent them all home early and left the office cat to design the remote control. ITS AWFUL! It's another small (very small), anonymous black block, cleverly made symmetrical so you can barely see which way up it is, and certainly can't tell easily by touch. The small, almost entirely black buttons are barely visible on the small almost entirely black face. The tiny printing...

SRC-2000 Smart Remote Control

Advantages: Controls anything and everything
Disadvantages: Needs to be setup

...OK, I'll admit it, I'm a gadget-freak. A gadget-freak with at least 20 remote controls in the house.Everything I buy seems to have a remote with it. I've tried a five-into-one remote control before, with mixed results, so it took me a while to pluck up the nerve to invest in another remote-control controller. I had the opportunity to play with this model at the Live 2000 show , and found that it had potential to solve my problems. The biggest selling point for me is that it's touch-screen are all fully customisable - both text and button size, and as you can have four screens of button for each device, you don't need to miss off features. The box is a 'learner', so you point your existing remote at it's base, press the button to assign a command to, then beam it keypress from your normal remote. It's pretty intuitive, although...

I am in complete control

Advantages: Tough, Easy to use, Not overly Priced (if you ever need a new one)
Disadvantages: Mine has tooth marks on

...As Sky Plus has began to be a key part of my life I'm now starting to adore the control just as much as the overall service. Coming in a primarily gray colour with a black back and trim (including most of the buttons), the device is well laid out and simple to navigate. At the top are the On/Off button, the Sky Button and the TV button (allowing you to control the TV with the remote instead of needing both a TV remote and a Sky remote lying about the place). Below that are the direct menu buttons to the TV guide, Box Office, Services and Interactive, of these the TV guide button will be the one that gets the vast work out, with Box Office getting the occasional use just prior to major boxing contests for myself. Below that is the navigation buttons and the control/program up downs and select button. They include the mute button...

Remote Control

Advantages: Another all action thriller
Disadvantages: None

...running from. The tactics he employs to help him in his quest are once again described so accurately that you just know that Andy McNab is writing from experiences he gained in his time with the SAS. The suspense in the book is in some chapters absolutely amazing with the reader not knowing which way it is going to go and it is literally impossible to put the book down. However, at the “end” of the chase you finally think that it is all over and everyone is going to live happily ever after when the story takes another dramatic turn and shoots off once again to keep you hanging on to the last page. All in all an excellent read full of action, suspense and drama. There’s even a little bit of comedy thrown in here and there for good measure. My only regret is that I read Crisis 4 before Remote Control as it spoilt...

Shuttle remote control

Advantages: saves time, ideal for turning your computer into a TV
Disadvantages: makes you lazy

...This remote control is ideal for the most lazy shuttle users or for people who want their shuttle to be more like a TV. The shuttle mini computers have been designed in mind for computer game players who like to carry about their computers to different venues but also people who want computers to form a part of their home entertainment system. This includes linking up the shuttle computer with their TV, DVD player, skybox and to be able to record stuff off the TV directly onto the computer. The remote control is wireless and it talks to the USB receiver module so you can happily operate the 19 keys on the remote control. Features = * System power off control - turn off your computer without getting out of your chair! Its like the stand-by button you get on TV remote controls though there is a BUT. The power button can only...

Diamond review  The solution to remote control war

Advantages: Great way to view your satellite/cable channels in another room and control the channels too! Stops family warefare in the living room for control of the remote
Disadvantages: Some technical limitations, Some may feel its pricey, Set up maybe daunting

...for another subscription to Mr Murdoch?s evil empire? You could do it the crude way and start laying down wires and drilling holes through walls and ceilings. Thankfully, there is an alternative in the form of a video sender and in this case, the Philips VL1200 Wireless TV Link, a great little gadget to have which could save you money (minus the initial cost of buying), hassle and all those fights for the remote. What is it? = The VL1200 or ?Wireless TV Link? as Philips markets it, comprises of two trendy silver boxes, which are almost identical to each other. One is a transmitter and the other is a receiver both with short aerials and they are distinguished by the amount of buttons on the front. The transmitter has 2 buttons on the right hand side, which allows you to select the input you want to transmit, and an on/off button...

Wii Remotes-the best game controllers so far?

Advantages: Very responsive
Disadvantages: Battery life is poor

...This contraption is an amazing piece of technology. At least one Wii remote control pad is supplied when you purchase the Nintendo Wii. I don't think its much to look at, but here is a case where form followed function. It appears to be a pretty average remote control pad but it's far from that. It consists of 8 buttons on the top: - Power on/off - Direction pad - Button A - '-' Button - Home Button - '+' Button - Button 1 - Button 2 As well as the Button B on the underside. The majority of individual button functions obviously vary with the software you are using on the Wii at the time. Currently I have only seen these Wii Remotes in white, but hopefully they will be available in more colours shortly. At the bottom end of the remote there is a port for the Wii Nunchuck, which is an additional control device...
