...what is it like? the epilator looks just like an electric razor. that is until you remove the cover. there you will find a row of metal discs. these discs are like giant tweezers, there are several in a row which rotate and grab your hairs which are then pulled out by the roots. it is designed to pull out hairs as short as 0.5mm. Good strong epilator - no pain no gain!

...This epilator looks nice and gentle, includes an exfoliator pad, and a little brush for helpful cleaning. However, if you ever think you are going to have painless hair removal by ripping the hairs out at the root then you will have to think again! Of course it is very painful and I still cannot epilate my legs without tears coming to my eyes. Plucking hell? Yes that is a Pl not and F!

Advantages: Almost completely painless, can take up to six weeks for hair to grow back.
Disadvantages: Some people have a lower pain threshold, price now it's not on offer.

No pain no gain

Disadvantages: It hurts until you get used to it!

...are super and if you can get past the initial pain barrier it really isn't so bad as long as you do it regularly. I replaced my old one a little while ago with the Phillips Satinelle. It works off the mains and has 21 rotating discs. It comes with a little loofah pad to exfoliate before you "shave". Do remember to exfoliate as ingrowing hairs are a nuisance and leave you with spotty looking scabs! Nice.It is also really important to thoroughly moisturise the area afterwards. I got mine from Boots and it cost £42.50. It has a smart carrying case and a cleaning brush. As with all Phillips products it has a two year guarantee. I really like the way it slows down the regrowth and I think the discomfort is worth it for that alone.There are things you can do to make it easier- have a warm bath first. ...~~~ To be perfectly honest I don't know how much my one cost, as it was a gift. But the updated pink version, the Phillips Satinelle Super Sensitive costs £33.97 from Amazon. ~~~My final words~~~ When my husband bought me this I was initially pleased, however after having tried to use it on more than one occasion, I was left wondering if he had been upset at me when he got it. I find it too painful to use and can only wonder why someone would invent such an instrument of torture. As you can probably guess I'm only recommending this (or any epilator) to those that enjoy pain. I suppose it would make quite a good prop at an S&M party, but if, like me, you're not into that sort of thing, I'd give it a miss and stick to other methods of hair removal....

Doesn't hurt that much - honest!

Advantages: hair regrows slower, easy to use.
Disadvantages: hurts a bit.

...seems to make the pain less well painful! I?ve also tried doing my armpits and bikini line. The armpits killed and I mean really really hurt, my bikini line wasn?t too bad until it grabbed one of the longer hairs and?ouch! I also noticed how god damn noisy this thing is it sounds like its eating you! Another must with epilation is to exfoliate frequently and with this particular brand you do get a free loofah to do this with. I exfoliate about 3 times a week but I still have the odd ingrown hair. I am really happy with my epilator and am pleased to say the pain isn?t as bad as I imagined and I will work up to using it regularly on my other bits! ...I bought this product with some trepidation after reading other reviews of epilators and having a relatively low threshold for pain! I saw it on offer half price so thought I'd just give it a go. I used it on my legs first of, which I had previously been waxing and found it quick and almost painless. I must admit I thought the other reviews were exaggerating the pain a little. However, I then tried it on my underarms which I had been shaving for years and it was agony! I could hardly finish epilating, but glad I made myself as after a few more goes, the hair got noticeably thinner and it is now relatively painless. The skin is left completely smooth, and the best thing is that you can epilate on much shorter hairs than waxing so there is no need to wait for hairs to grow long!
