Philips Savvy cheap and Cheerful or Nasty
Advantages: cheap, clock, calculator
Disadvantages: difficult to use menu's, difficult to erase text messages
...I recently bought an Orange Philips Savvy mobile phone to replace my aging Motorolla MR30 which was begining to have battery problems - not recharging properly and also switching off at random. I bougt it for £29.99 (as a Pay As You Go Phone) and replaced the sim-card with the one from my MR30, although I had to cut the centre of the sim-card out as the MR30 uses a full-size sim-card and the Philips Savvy uses a small size.
Although the Savvy has a number of good points it definately shows its budget price. The menu is more dificult to go through, and when displaying text messages only a few words are visible at a time, also to delete text messages then the whole message has to be read before deleting - this can be time consuming. (In the MR30, deleting can be obtained by pressing the o.k. button then delete). Only 90 numbers can be...

Street Savvy
Advantages: Small and easy to use
Disadvantages: Fiddly keys and small screen
...of the year to hunt for phones, as every man and his dog seemed to have got there first. The cheapest phones on any pay as you go scheme cost around £40 and they were all gone! I eventually found the last cheap display model in town in “mobile phones direct”
I chose myself a Phillips Savvy phone with a nice blue cover with £5 off for shop soiling of course. Is it a good phone? Well I’ve been using it for a week and I’ve had no problems with it, it’s light (143 grams) it’s small enough (129 x 48 x 24 mm) to fit into the phone pocket on my coat (otherwise I’d be carrying pens around in it). I know it’s aimed at teenager but it was cheap!!
It runs off a power cell which has 130 - 250 hours and call time of 2-4 hours, the power cell can be swapped for normal batteries, 4xAAA’s. I did...

Sensible Savvy
Advantages: Cheap. Good handy size. Not bad features.
Disadvantages: none
...I got this little Philips Savvy for my daughter about four months ago.
She’d been pestering the life out of me for ages, and for the sake of peace and quiet, I eventually gave in.
My niece got a special offer through her Student’s Union at University, which meant the phone only cost us £29, including a call card for £20 worth of free calls. I opted for the pre-paid method of payment, as otherwise we would have ended up with huge bills. With the pre-paid, she pays for the cards herself, which makes her that bit more cautious in her usage.
We had great fun working out all the settings together.
The first thing we did was to look at the different tones you can set for your ring tone and your number dialling tone.
The range of tunes for the ring tone is fairly good, with a choice of about 20 tones, but she was...

Savvy not for me
Advantages: see text
Disadvantages: see text
...I bought this phone a couple of months ago, in the misguided belief that it was better than my trusty Nokia 5146, which I have had over 2 years. So money in hand I dived into Dixons, not a sensible choice from what I have read, but anyway I handed over the princely sum of £29.99 and walked away with my new Philips Savvy on the orange pay as you go tariff.
Once home I ripped open the box to see a levely metallic blue phone, about 5 inches in length and just short of 2 inches wide. The ariel is fixed and protrudes about 1 inch above the phone.
The keypad has the usual numbers/text buttons and hash and star key. There are also 5 other buttons, a menu button, 'c' button, green button with a telephone on it, a red button and the navigation key. The buttons are similar in size to the Nokia 5110, one of the reasons I bought the phone, as...

Long Lasting Batteries - Best in their class
Advantages: Long life, beat the oposition hands down, price
Disadvantages: Just available as AA or AAA at present
...I have recently come across PHILIPS POWERLIFE Batteries. They claim to last upto 2 times longer than Duracel or other similar batteries.
MY experience with these batteries has been excellent. I recently put 4 AA size in a small pocket TV which then ran for over 7 hours before they ran out. Duracel batteries in the same appliance lasted 3 hours and cheaper batteries lasted anythink from1 to 1.5 hours.
The price I paid was less than the cost of 4 Duracels of the same type. I have used these POWERLIFE Batteries in numerous other appliances too and all have out performed the best of the rest.
Philips secret is in the Graphite Particles used to manufacture the batteries and the slower release of the power thus providing prolonged life.
Don't just take my word for it, try them out yourself, they really are excellent and very good...

It's Not Philips, It's Wigggly's
Advantages: Reliable, robust, affordable
Disadvantages: Not a top of the range model, could be more stylish
...I've had my Philips C12 for well over a year now, so thought it was about time I tried to do it justice here on Ciao.
? Look
The C12 standardly comes in a matt black finish. Admittedly it's not the most stylish of phones, but it's not that bad either. Perhaps the worst feature looks wise is the aerial, which sticks out a good inch over the top of the phone. (Not that uncommon when these phones first came out on the market, but certainly nowadays there are options without such an obvious aerial.)
? Size
The dimensions are (in approx inches) 5 x 1¾ x 1 which are rather bigger than some of the more modern options on offer from other manufacturers such as Nokia, but the C12 does fit in a small handbag or your jeans pocket (unless they are skin tight, in which case realistically what phone would fit?)
? Weight
The C12 weighs...

Simply savvy.
Advantages: light and cheap
Disadvantages: biocalender
...), and of course silent.
Now we come to my most and least favourite functions on the phone; the vibrate ring alert and the biocalender 'game'.
An alternative to the traditional ringer is the vibrate function, which is perfect for discreet occasions such as the cinema, but is probably used by people who secretly get a kick from the phone vibrating against your leg, like me.
Next, the biocalender. This utterly useless function is described as a 'horoscope game', but is just a pathetic excuse to say they have more functions on their phone. the idea behind the 'game' is that you enter your birthdate and today's date, and it predicts your chance, love, energy and success ratings for that day. I used it about 3 times when I first got the phone, I doubt I will again.
Well, there you go, the philips savvy. If you want a cheap, light...

Not incredibly Savvy
Advantages: Its good as a phone, for calls and maybe text too. The buttons are easy to press.
Disadvantages: Too many to mention, read my opinions!
...I originally bought the Philips C12, due to the cheap price, the fact that I could now text my friends (this being my first phone) and more importantly, I had free text messages for 3 months!! :-)
I bought the phone from The Link (part of the Dixons group), who have some of the most irritating and dozey staff I have ever met in a shop! Anyway, its a BTCellnet branded phone, in a jet black colour (which I'm told isn't made anymore, so I'm not happy!) and it has nice rubber keys on it, which are easy to use - is you don't put a cover on the phone! Otherwise you have to press really hard to get the letters you want, when texting, which is annoying.
The phone on the whole is okay, it does exactly what it says it does and I suppose its good, if you don't like having games on your mobile phone. There is one 'game' on it (if you can call...

Philips HQ40 Battery Shaver
Advantages: It's a good all round battery shaver
Disadvantages: None
...Discovering on holiday that I had forgotten my ?wet-razor?, I decided to purchase a cheap, battery-powered shaver. Faced with vast array on sale I bought the cheapest ? the Philips HQ40.
?Well, it will suffice until I get back home? I reasoned.
But after a few days of use I was pleasantly surprised, and found it to be a very good shaver indeed.
Straight from the box the shaver was ready to use. It comes complete with two AA batteries, a small double-ended cleaning brush and an information sheet explaining how to fit the batteries, how to clean the shaving heads, advice on shaving-head replacement and something that really surprised me ? a helpful little tip on how to achieve a close shave.
Using the shaver is simplicity itself. Remove the plastic shaver-head protector; push up the little white button above the Philips logo...

Best Batteries Around
Advantages: Long life, reasonably priced
Disadvantages: None the average Arsenal fan will find
...Get batteries that last, get POWERLIFE from Philips, they are brilliant and last much longer then any other batteries I have ever bought.
I use a lot of batteries at home in various appliances and have tried most makes of batteries, some have been good and some bad. Up until now Duracel seemed to be the longest lasting but they were expensive. No I have found PowerLife batteries that is all I will buy. The pack claims that they can last up to twice as long as Duracel and in my experience they certainly do, sometimes they last even longer. They are particularly brilliant in power hungry appliances like CD Walkmans, pocket TV's and the like.
Price wise they are cheaper than Duracel and really do last twice as long....
