...The Philips GC 4340 is a precise steam iron which has a special tip so ironing is made easier for those hard to reach places on some garments. I have used the iron a few times and can say that its quite easy to use compared to the iron we had before this one. I'm comparing it on the basis that the iron we had before had a load of different setting for ironing which I found very confusing. The GC 4340 is a solid iron, black and grey in colour. Not sure if it comes in a range of colours but I've only seen this colour. The grip it has is comfortable and isn't too heavy. I think it's a good design for a iron and has a sole ceramic plate so isn't sticky at all, glides very easily when in use. Philips 4630i Iron

Advantages: Heats up quickly and has loads of steam power
Disadvantages: Doesn't iron out creases - very disappointing performance

...We purchased the Philips GC4639i iron yesterday (27/12/08) and were highly disappointed with its performance. Amongst it's claims were that it made ironing creases out of Cotton and Linen easy and effective. While we have no doubts that it delivered a good amount of steam in both continuous and power modes, and that the iron heated up very quickly, the results were unacceptable on our cotton business shirts. As for the ionic steam.. not really sure what the point is - we didn't see any better results with it. It did occur to us that we weren't managing the "power" of the device correctly, so we visited the Philips site and every review site possible to find out if our ironing techniques were lacking..but apparently not. After 3 attempt at ironing 2 cotton business shirts that had been hung to dry on coat hangers, the shirts still...

Phillips High Pressure Steam Iron

Advantages: Reduces ironing time, no need for starch or descaler
Disadvantages: Need somewhere to put tank, noisy, very steamy!

...I was given the opportunity of buying a Phillips GC7220 for £20 for a Bzzagent campaign (word of mouth advertising) the iron is unlike conventional irons as it has a separate tank which you fill with water and this generates high pressure steam. The result is that the iron cuts through creases really quickly and easily. The only downsides are: *It is noisy when it's generating steam. It generates steam when you depress a button on the handle, this can also be locked down when ironing a large item that requires continuous steam *You need to be in a room with an opening window as it gets very steamy! *You need to have somewhere to put the tank near to your ironing board (the tank is attached to the iron with a hose) I have a work surface next to the ironing board which is ideal. Otherwise you would need to use a small table...

...seems to have no resistance at all to my clumsy ironing techniques. The iron is really easy to clean - de-scaling takes place in under two minutes without the need to buy hard-to-find items like anti-scale cartridges. My mother was very impressed with the Philips GC7220 Steam Generator, so she will be a proud owner of one, or one like it very soon. Love it. Can't say I love ironing any better, but at least I go through it faster and with less stress than before....

Philips steam iron

Advantages: Ionic steam
Disadvantages: Storage of flex

...This is the best iron I have ever used. With Ionic Deepsteam, spray function and vertical steam boost it really does remove all the creases. Its design is very "funky" and I particularly like the sharp point which makes it very easy to to get into the corners. Runs very smoothly and not too heavy. Another extremely useful feature is the separate storage plate so that it can be put away while still hot - no waiting for it to cool first. My only criticism would be the flex which has to be concertinaed and fastened with velcro for storage which is quite difficult to do. I would have preferred the more traditional design. Overall, however, I am delighted with this product and would recommend it to others....
