Grundig 42" Plasma TV - WOW !!!!

Only thing is - Technology is also very £££ Keeping up to date, with new technology, and revolutionary accomplishments in technology is not a cheap thing at all. About 6 months ago - I decided that my current 32" Widescreen TV was dated, small, and near enough stone age. I reviewed many different Plasma and also Rear Projection TV's along with LCD displays. One thing thats for sure, the dearest option, doesnt necessarily mean the best quality. I had looked at several screens ranging in price from £2,000 to £5,000. Ok the £5k screens were near enough top end, but for my use this would just be extreme. PANASONIC TH42PX60B 42" Plasma TV

Advantages: Amazing picture quality, HD Ready, NICAM stereo sound, stylish stand.
Disadvantages: No back to the stand which makes it hard to conceal inflexible scart leads.

...I bought this TV at a special online price of £2074 (Curry's website) and it was money well spent! The first time I turned it on I was struck by the excellent picture quality, it really is superb. I looked at a lot of plasmas before I bought this one and it definitely has one of the sharpest pictures and the best colours of anything in its price bracket. The stand doesn't come with the TV for that price and will cost you an extra £100, Alternatively, you can mount it on the wall. If you use the stand and you have DVD players, Sky boxes, game consoles etc. then you might find it difficult to conceal the thick scart leads from view, these tend not to be very flexible and I can't bend mine to fit in the channels on the back of the stand. Advantages: Clear beautiful pictures
Disadvantages: Not many

...Ahh Phillips CRT TVs were one of the best of their kind, in both picture quality and sound. Picture is all important to me and other than Pioneer and Panasonic modern LCD/Plasmas, not many others have reached the picture quality standard as the old CRT TV's did. However, this is superseded by Blu-ray and true HD for obvious reasons. You can connect external sound to it but you would not be able to use Phillip's own sound circuitry to control the volume unless it is a Philips brand. Motion and crispness of picture is second to none, with no flicker, it seemlesses plays documentaries at excellent detail. Add to this 100hz technology and possibly Phillips pixel plus, you have an excellent TV which, in my view, lasts and perfoms better than modern LCDs. Nevertheless, it is a great buy, and great to watvh in the comfort of your own...

...The PANASONIC TH42PX60B is built like a tank. If you want a TV that's not going to let you down go for a Panasonic. I chose Plasma for it's movie smoothness and acurate shadow detailing. This TV is is fantastic in every way. Even the built in sound is such a high standard, I have a £5500 hi-fi that I run the consoles and PC through but for watching TV the speakers really are up to the task, decent reproduction. It has built in freeview, 2 HDMI sockets, 3 scarts, component and a PC input as well as audio inputs. I have mine on the pedestal stand which is really neat and tidy. The TV is VERY heavy (as plasmas are). It handles 720P and 1080I. As a Media Centre display in my lounge its running 1280 X 720 beautifully, the only thing is that being a plasma the screen temporarily burns in icons etc if you play games for a long period. ...as 720p input, and what you will see will be 1024x768 expanded to widescreen. Good enough to be called HD, but it is not state-of-the-art 1920x1080p. The DVD player can upscale to 1080 progressive, which is a step beyond what this TV can handle. The same applies to 99% of TVs right now. The screen can show a 1080i signal without a problem. So it should be compatible with the upcoming HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players. The previous review refers to a buzzing sound from the transformer, that I can confirm. This is a problem with some plasmas. It can be a distraction sometimes, but you get used to it. The banding effect for sunsets etc is also noticeable. I can mostly get around this by using the DVI digital connection with the NeuNeo. ...I received this TV almost a year ago as a Birthday present. I can honestly say, you would be hard pushed to get a better 42" plasma TV for the price. As you would expect with a Philips TV you get all the features and more. There's 2 scart sockets and a DVI-I connection. I have had my laptop connected on this and the quality is amazing. Tip for you on this, buy a long lead of at least 2 metres! You are bound to need it unless you fancy squatting in front of the TV. The stereo speakers on either side of the unit are almost invisible and yet push out the volume very nicely. There's a lack of bass there but I'm no expert on that and its fine in my book. I have a 2.1 DVD player and a Sky box attached although I tend to use the inbuilt Freeview much more. I bet that if you hooked up a decent surround sound to this TV you would have...

...I have owned a large screen Philips Matchline TV for over 5 years now and have had no trouble with it whatsoever, i can honestly say it's the best TV i have had the pleasure of viewing. You are probably thinking " i want a new TV, not a 5 year old one"? And you would be right. Although my TV is old they are still being manufactured and sold world wide. The Dolby surround sound is incredibly superior, even to Toshiba in my opinion, and the picture quality is still as sharp now as when i first purchased it. So what else has it got? You can collapse the screen for wide screen viewing, mix and change sound types and quality in 3 different modes, Dolby 3d Stereo, Dolby 4 way surround sound ( very good quality ) or mono. ...I have a 15" widescreen LCD Philips TV, it was about £270 a couple of summers ago. I have had absolutely no problems with it. It has good picture quality, good sound and is rather stylish. he speakers are on each side of the screen and there are a couple of small lights at the bottom left speaker. The buttons are hidden along the top of the TV and are easy to distinguish and press. The connections are all hidden on the back under the TV tube, they are rather awkward to get to but easy enough to set up. It could do with another scart connection though. The picture is a bit fuzzy now and then, but I think that's the signal we get. Also, I do have a dead pixel and a small scratch on the screen that was picked up during transport. It also shows lines across the screen every now and then....

...Im not someone who can go into technical detail, I can only tell you what I think of the TV from my personal experience, so here it is: My partner wanted one of these televisions for ages so at xmas we decided instead of buying each other presents we clubbed together & bought one. When we saw this TV in the shop we where a bit unsure as to how good the ambilight would be as we where not mounting the TV on a wall & every shop we went into displayed it like that.
