...Well upon turning 16 years of age, there was only one choice to be made. Not the question of should I get a scooter? But, more a question of Which scooter should I choose? The week before my birthday, I went along to the local moped shop, bright eyed and full of anticipation. I was in my element amongst all of the scooters and memorabilia, I had no particular preferences of which to get, the only factor being that it must not be too expensive. My hopes fell slightly when the dealer showed me all of these marvellous scooters with their price tag suitably high to match. All hope was not lost though when I spotter the Piaggio Nrg sitting in the corner. I was drawn toward it. The looks were fantastic, and it was just the right size too, not too big but not too small. ybr is brill

Advantages: fuel, speed, easy to ride and enjoyable
Disadvantages: electrics a little bit tempermental but nothing much and no peformance parts

...i bought a yamaha ybr 125 in april 2008 for my 17th birth day it only had 6000 miles on. It was my first bike with gears (i owned a piaggio nrg50 dd) . the gears were a problem at first but it took about a week to get used to them after this every moment on this bike has been enjoyable. the top speed on an average day is about 60-65mph but i have had 75-80.the acseleration is good up to about 50mph can keep up with most cars. i am quite small 5'5 and the ybr is perfect for me it is so comfortable. the fuel economy is the most impressive thing on this bike i use the bike every day to get to work onover all about 12miles over all an i put a tenner in every 3 weeks. a few weeks after owning this bike the eletrics broke (the horn, electric start and headlight) i changed the bulb and they all worked fine. this bike is a perfect first bike...

Courtesy bikes are also available for the longer jobs. Disadvantages: Very Nickable - ask Chris evans about his scooter problems

...came to see the new twist on the classic Vespa look as superior. Italian styling with clean lines. No contest. A fabulous scooter for a great price (between £2000 and £2199 - look out for extras such as free CBT's, helmets, locks etc.) There is a £30 3 year Piaggio warranty for parts and labour, well worth buying to keep running costs down....

...I have been a member of mycomps since September last year when I joined the National compers Alliance (which also includes membership to simply prizes and winners friend magazines). I have found that this site is fantastic for delivering the big wins so far from entering postcard comps featured on the site. From the comps featured on this site so far I have won: £50 worth of theatre tokens. 2 tickets to the baftas with a champagne reception beforehand, black tie dinner at Christopher's in covent Garden afterwards and 2 nights in the Trafalgar hotel. A weekend away in an Oxfordshire hotel including champagne on arrival, dinner from the A La Carte menu, breakfast and tickets to either Warwick Castle or Blenheim Palace. Power and safety in a sylish package

...of you seriously looking to get an ET4, one suggestion; don't upgrade or modify the engine at all. I tried this, but ended up sinking a whole lot of money into getting only a little more speed, but sacrificing reliability - only to go eventually back to the original setup. Piaggio have really put their research hours into this model, and it just not worth messing with....

Possibly the best 125 on the market

...I bought my ET4 125 just after Christmas after falling in love with the model in the window which was in pearlecent white, with matching helmet. I had previously owned a Piaggio ZIP 50, which I owned and ran for about 18 months. It was a great bike but just a little bit too small for a 6'2" bloke who weighs about 15 stone. I went down to my local scooter dealership,who were very helpful, but as I find with many bike shops the ability to take the new bikes for a test ride are limited, so a lot of the time its up to looks rather than performance. As mentioned the ET4 certainly looks the part, and after run in, in runs like a dream. I had a few problems to start with, a choke that stuck which resulted in a heavier fuel consumption than I wanted and difficulty in starting, but a 1/2 hour in the dealership and it was as right as...

Vespa - The Big One

Advantages: Stylish, powerful, well made, comfortable
Disadvantages: Heavy, quite expensive

...The Granturismo is the newest and biggest Vespa to hit the market. Building on the success of the ET4, the GT boasts a 4 stroke, 4 valve liquid cooled engine which can deliver 21 bhp. The GT feels a bigger bike than the ET4 and it is certainly heavier. As it has a top speed of around 70mph, the extra weight adds a lot more stability at higher speeds on dual carriageways, but it is not as easy to weave through the stationary traffic in the centre of town. Having said that, it is considerably more manoeuvrable (and some 20kg lighter) than the Piaggio B125, its nearest equivalent. The GT gives a very comfortable ride and has a spacious saddle, which is ideal for pillion passengers. Storage is pretty good too although if you use a full size helmet (as opposed to an open face helmet) you will need the rear box to fir the helmet in...
