...for what I would get next, couldn't find anything that was quite what I wanted. But one evening I picked up the local paper one night and spied something that looked just right. Pedro Mark 2. It was a 1999 1.0 purple Polo, almost identical to the one I lost. Another reliable little car hopefully, my last one had done 345,000 miles when it was finally put to rest! Remarkable! This one seemed better somehow, it was cleaner than my first one which had come to earn the nickname of the "Shedlo" because of the state of it. Rusty holes had come into contact with the inevitable Scottish rain, making them look like bleeding bullet wounds! It was a much newer one with better equipment AND it had alloys! Lovely. Any Polo owner will know, you get in and you've fallen in love. They really are great little cars. My friends have 3 or 4 year old...

Nissan Micra 1.0 AUTOMATIC

Advantages: Economical, easy parking, nippy and reliable car
Disadvantages: street cred, but lets not be vain

...My Mum's car, but she lets me use it from time to time - especially when I pester her. It is "P" Reg and bought 3 years ago from a main dealer who had traded the car in with one of its customers. Full service history provided and one careful owner. The car is automatic 1.0 litre model in the classic red by Nissan, a Micra Auto. Test drove and found the automatic a little strange not like traditional autos. The difference being that other autos when stopped and in drive will edge forward (particularly useful on a hill start), the Micra Auto does not edge forward in fact it behaves like a manual trasmission and will roll back on an incline. Why? CVT - Continuous Variable Transmission, a Nissan feature which uses a tapered shaft to drive the car and elimintes the judder as a normal automatic shifts through its gears. The CVT...

Citroen saxo 1.0i

Advantages: Cheap to run, no problems with them.
Disadvantages: not much space in the back.

...The Citroen saxo 1.0i is a great little car for a young person who has just pass their test, i have always loved this car when they first come out in 1996. The little 1.0i engine is a small engine but is still a nippy car around town. It is good for petrol it don't drink that much but the style of the standed one looks abit boring. The boot is big enough to get a good lot of shopping in there or your speakers if you like them in there. The saxo has power steering but thats it, it don't have a ^ sunroof ^ front spot lights ^ allow wheels ^ cd player just a tape/cassette player ^ body kits stuff like that but that don't matter because its still a good little car and cheap and Reliable. they hold their price well, but if you want something better like faster and better looking then go for the VTR OR VTS....

Saxo spree 1.0L

Advantages: Nippy around town, fuel economy, decent starter car

...I have had my saxo spree 4, 1.0L for about 8 months now and it is a good little runner, it is nippy around town and handles well, even if the steering can be a little heavy round corners sometimes. The petrol consumption is ok, it does about 48 miles to the gallon for me, but im not always light on the accelerator, so this is fairly good. The car is quick from 0-50 (well quick for a 1.0) but above this it takes its time...0-50 takes about ten seconds but then getting to 60 takes an extra 5 seconds in mine, because of the change to third gear...also if you want to get above 70 at all...dont put a body kit on it and do out all the sound system as i have done because this added loads of weight to the car, which is probably why mine take 15.64 seconds to get to 60. The most i have got out of my car is 85mph and this was pushing it, could...

VW Polo 1.0- Don't expect to much

...I bought this car because I could afford it, the insurance is cheap (1.0 litre engine) and it looks really nice. I got it in white, but of course there is any colour you want available. If you can afford it. Of course I could not afford a new one, so I got a second hand VW from a dealer for £5100. It looked new and did not seem to have any major problems, plus a 6 month warrantee. Features: The VW Polo I got came with a CD player/radio, ABS, power steering (adjustable steering wheel). It?s a 1 litre and goes about 97mph. The petrol usage is quite low, so this a good reason to buy this car. Probably about the only one, apart from its cute looks and nice interior. Feature which would be nice, but are not available: Unfortunately it does not come with central locking, alarm or electric windows. Pretty annoying I would say. Well...

Advantages: Build quality, styling, interior space, reliability.

...I wrote a review about this vehicle on this very website in 2004. Now I'm a bit older with a fair bit more vehicle experience I thought I would re write the article. As with any VW you pretty much know what you're going to get. They are solid, reliable, well built, comfortable and generally expensive compared to similar vehicles in the same class. However they also have low depreciation so any likely initial expendature will be made back when you sell the vehicle. I will focus this review on the 1.0E in this range however, you also have availible the S and the SE models which encorporate various extras such as Elec windows/air con etc. If you were interested in purchasing this polo I would highly reccomend buying an S or an SE version as the very limited spec on the E can become tiresome after a while. ...I'm a new driver (only 18 years old) and getting insurance is terrible and expensive. This car appealed to me because it is a nice-looking hatch back, and the insurance must be cheap on a 1.0 litre engine. The nice blue exterior matched the standard blue/black seats very well, with sporty silver dials that light up blue, and cool glowing blow neons in the foot wells. Very nice indeed! The standard head unit glows up blue, and the car is nice and roomy. The car is great; a Y-Reg sexy Polo. I bought it second-hand from a garage for £5,900 with brand new tyres, MOT service, tax and 6 months warrantee. Good job that I had the warrantee, they ended up paying for a new filter in the gearbox because it kept leaking oil. It comes with CD Player and changer, cassette player, ABS, airbags, Power steering, so it's got all the nice features...
