...Picture Pairs is a classic game that I used to love playing with my brother when I was a child, but it wasn't until very recently that I started to play the game with Harry. We were staying with my parents for a little while, and my mum decided to get Harry some games to play with her. I wasn't sure what was suitable for his age (3.5 years), but she picked up this game, Picture Pairs, and Animal Snap. We got them home and Harry was eager to get stuck in, and so were we actually, and would you believe it's now his favourite game we have to play at least once a day! ...I have to admit that I bought this book with some trepidation. I have encountered a lot of picture dictionaries in my time, and even as a child I can recall being disappointed with the low quality. Many seemed to be geared towards toddlers, a sort of "what is this" point and see the word in English sort of mentality. I find English only picture dictionaries a bit suspect, therefore, but with two children aged 6 and 8 learning Japanese, I thought perhaps a bilingual picture dictionary might aid in their vocabulary acquisition. As it was, it seemed that every five seconds I was being asked, "What is this in Japanese?" (Actually, my eldest points at something and asks, "Nani (what [is this])?" The images are very clear to view and as they are also very fast to upload to the frame, if I do a particularly good shoot that day I can quickly add them to the frame between clients, I can upload a 14 megapixel image to this straight from the camera in around 2 seconds and as it allows you to build albums internally I can keep all my shoots in order too. These frames are very robust also and I would imagine they can take a bit of abuse, perhaps from grandkids bumping them about and the likes and as with most things Sony they come with a year's guarantee that can be extended to three for a small price (with these it is £39). ...Yes, my review section is slowly filling up with Pratchett books. That should say something of my opinion of his work by itself. Moving Pictures is, like most of his novels, a Discworld book, set on a fantasy world that moves through the universe carried by four elephants standing on the back of a giant turtle. Once you've got in the right frame of mind to accept the absurdity of the setting, you're ready for the story. Pratchett's stories are comedies, though this doesn't mean the plot or characters fall short in any way. You get a good story with a lot of jokes along to way. Some of the jokes are bad puns, others are clever ideas and the majority just look at the world we're used to in a slightly scewed way. ...I have for some time now wanted to get a digital photo frame so I could have all the photos that I take of my nieces and nephews when I take them places on display but they have all seemed very expensive for what they are. When I saw the Kodak Easyshare M820 online for under £40 I jumped at the chance and I am pretty sure I have gotten myself a very good bargain. It was priced at £79.99 most places and even higher in some but when I saw Amazon selling it for only £38.99 I could not believe my luck. This photo frame is so very easy to use and it has a built in digital audio player so you can add music to the mood when viewing the photos. I should say here that the tapes are widely available and cost about £10. Each tape can record 90 minutes of footage. They are very small and fit easily inside a camera case. So far so good. Now for the more technical stuff. The camcorder has the following features- A memory stick - This is a very small oblong plastic thing (technical term)! Which is inserted into the camcorder. This enables moving images to be taken from the recorded tape and stored as still prints. These can then be viewed on your computer and printed off onto photo paper. Photo's can also be enlarged.
