...Suddenly, you find yourself in the Lake District? You are heading along the A592 with Windermere to your left. You look to the north and in the distance you see a curious mountain formation. Two hill tops strangely positioned against each other. What is that? You wonder. It is ? or should I say they are - the Langdale Pikes. And today, constant reader, I am going to take you by the hand and guide you across this beautiful terrain. Hope you have brought your boots and some food and water. Best make you sure you have your waterproofs too, it can rain a bit here, as I am sure you might know. We move onto the A593, heading towards Coniston. Pike and Zander Fishing

Advantages: Great fishing, not expensive
Disadvantages: cold and bleak

...Here is an excellent venue for the serious angler keen on a bit of sport hunting Pike and Zander. Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire provide some of the best waters for Pike in particular. The drainage system on the Fenns provide excellent waters for the angler. These drainage channels or Drains as they are known run literally for miles. This particular venue is known as the 40 foot Drain and intersects the 18 foot drain. Fishing here is wonderful. Live bait works best although artificial lures, spinners or dead bait also work well. My best haul to date is 10 fish between 6 and 15 pounds in a 6 hour stint during November 1996. No zander though they were all pike. The drains are very open to the elements and it gets very bleak and cold up there so you need to wrap up warm and make sure you take a flask or your tea making things...

For those of you who do not know (where have you been?), TY Beanies are a collection of little teddies in all forms of animals and teddy bears. Once you start a collection they are quite addictive. You find you are always looking for new ones and cannot stop buying them - havoc for your wallet, heaven for your collection! One of the Beanies is a fish, who goes by the name of Coral. Its such a beautiful name - I was obsessed with sea coral as a child so this is a delightful treat for me. Coral is very attractive to look at too. ...I love fish fingers, but I'm pretty fussy about what I eat, and whilst with many products I'm happy to just go with the cheapest brand available, fish fingers for me are always Birdseye. Most cheap fish fingers tend to be made from the mysterious 'Minced White Fish' which has the texture of mashed up cardboard and tastes like licking a sweaty armpit. You're probably thinking I'm exaggerating there, after all, nobody makes a habit of licking armpits . Well, I did once while a little under the influence - and it was much nicer than a cheap fish finger! I paid £1.69 for the box which contains 10 fish fingers made with 100% fish fillet (Alaska Pollock). I choose these particular ones as I wanted to give Jake the best quality I could buy in a supermarket. The Fish Fingers are really easy to cook, under the grill or in an oven for 12 ? 15 minutes, turning occasionally. The first time I tried them with Jake, I just cooked him one and four for me. While I was waiting for his fish finger to cool I made myself a fish finger buttie. It did not take long after biting into the fish finger to figure out that the fingers are not actually made from a whole fish fillet, but rather from chopped up fillet shaped into fingers. ...I love fish fingers - and must confess to being somewhat fussy about them. Whereas with many other items, I'm happy to buy the shops own economy version - fish fingers for me HAVE to be Birdseye. This is mainly because many economy brands are made from the mysterious 'Minced White Fish', which tastes pretty disgusting, and leaves me concerned that I don't know exactly what's in the product. ...I tried to eat at least one portion of fish a week, it's healthy, it contains good oils, etc and my favourite has got to be salmon. Sometimes on its own though I think fish can be fairly bland but it's hard to know what sauce to buy/make as there are not many out there. A few months ago while I was looking for something to accompany my fish I came across these Schwartz for fish packets. They are gorgeous. Basically Schwartz have come up with a range of different sauces which they say include their specially selected ingredients which complement the delicate flavours of a wide variety of fish. Fishing For Cards!

But then, with the exception of poker, most card games are only good because even a kid can play them. You get a ten minute prep on the rules with a few practice hands and you're an expert!
