Squirrel Lodge, B&B in Keswick, Lake District

Advantages: Clean, well presented and everyone polite and helpful
Disadvantages: Problems over price, some glitches with food

...Squirrel Lodge is a bed and breakfast in Eskin Street, in Keswick. Keswick is a delightful town situated in the heart of the Lake District and is an ideal base for exploring the area for activities such as walking and cycling. The town itself has a good number of restaurants, pubs and shops. The bed and breakfast is situated near to the town centre, just a few minutes walk away. It's easy to get to and the location of the bed and breakfast is very convenient. The biggest challenge can be finding car park spaces, but this is a problem for many of the establishments (and indeed locals) in the area, but we were able to find spaces not too far on each occasion. A Peaceful Retreat in Ireland.

Advantages: Large 3 bedroomed cabin in a peaceful lakeside location.
Disadvantages: Car needed.

...Rahans Lake Lodge can be found on a number of websites for accommodation in Ireland; it is a lovely cabin located in a tranquil location by Rahans Lake, near Carickmacross in County Monaghan in Southern Ireland. The cabin is very clean and has everything you need for a self catering holiday. The photos on the websites accurately dictate all aspects of the cabin. We stayed there for a week from the 20th to the 28th of July 2009 and found everything to be in good order. ...It took me at least a week to come to a semi conclusion of how I felt about Eden Lake; it took me a few days at least to get over the initial shock and emotion felt by watching it. And I have to say that the film I am about to review is like nothing I have seen before. ...Newcastle and the park was very easy to find following the directions provided on the booking form. We arrived earlier than the check-in time of 4pm, and the park seemed very quiet, but bearing in mind it is a camping and caravan park and this was November, so it was out of season. There was a bungalow to the left, after we drove through the barrier and a small reception area with a shop. A man came out of the bungalow after seeing us drive in. We gave our names, he explained he was the park manager and he told us to follow him, and he would take us to our lodge. We drove along a gravel road to the bottom of the park, where the lodges are located. It is then you realise the park and lodges are situated on a hill which gives a good view of the Firth of Forth. The Lakes: Quiet and Serene?

Advantages: Brilliant acting, great storylines and scripts
Disadvantages: Lack of extras on the DVD lets this set down

...the characters lay the basic foundation with only a couple of new ones emerging come series two. The storylines are basically a continuation of each other and, whilst in each episode these are constantly evolving, there isn't really a set plot for any of them. This makes viewing very, very addictive! 'The Lakes' series one shows a completely different side of the Lake District and albeit fictional, it's one I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to anyone who is a fan of good, gritty British dramas! Give Castle Lodge the Dodge

Advantages: A historical building
Disadvantages: disappointing and spoilt by the owners

...CASTLE LODGE It was a family day out in Ludlow and whilst I was sitting resting on the bench, waiting for my hubby to return from checking the car and the parking fees, I noticed this really old Tudor style house opposite and on closer inspection discovered that it was open to the public. We didn?t go in straight away, but I did drop a big hint like, ?I want to go in there before we go home? to the family, so that they would not be surprised after the visit to the castle that we went in here. After we had a lovely lunch in the café situated next door to the lodge after a amazing trip around the castle. A Lake with a myth - Lake Kournas, Crete

Advantages: Beautiful clear freshwater lake, need a car to get there
Disadvantages: expensive sun loungers and large slippery stones to negotiate before being able to swimg
